  • In the Grand Finale, Bill and Judy think there's something wrong with them because they don't get emotional over Brian leaving to go to college. That is, until they move Brian's dresser and find a drawing he made of the family when he was little.
  • In "Still Bill, Vol. 1" Bill tells his father off for breaking his promise to take Billy (the young son of Al's fiancee and his future stepson) to the museum, because Al would rather go out drinking. Al did the same to Bill when he was a kid, and although Bill is annoyed by his soon-to-be stepbrother, he doesn't want Billy to be treated the same way he was.
Bill: You're taking him to that museum.
    Al: Says who?
    Bill: SAYS ME, DAD!
    • Al takes Bill's words to heart. He keeps his word to Billy and invites Bill to come to the museum with them.
  • In "Still Parading," Brian gets a surprise when Scotty, Fitz's popular and athletic son, asks him out on a date—it turns out that Scotty is a Manly Gay. Bill and Judy fret about how to break what they assume is a major secret to Fitz, but when they finally blurt it out, Fitz reveals that he and his wife know full well that their son is gay and actively take part in his life by attending support group meetings, cheering him on in a gay softball league, and generally being there for him when he needs it. There's not even a moment of "I Have No Son!" present—Fitz, for all of his macho qualities, loves and accepts Scotty for who he is.
    • In the same episode, Bill's attempts at bonding with Brian end up backfiring when he inadvertently destroys his son's leprechaun-themed St. Patrick's Day Parade float. Brian decides that the only option is to don his own leprechaun costume and ride on the float himself. Just when it seems that he'll have to face the parade alone, Bill comes running up in a hastily-assembled outfit of his own and tells his son that he's going to be out there with him. The smile on Brian's face is pure sunshine.
  • In "Still Going First," Judy finds out that she has extremely high cholesterol and starts thinking about what would happen if she died. She writes Bill a long, heartfelt letter about all the important things he would need to know if that ever happened, and pressures him to do the same, but he fails ("Dear Judy: Snow shovels behind the garage. XO, Dead Bill. P.S.: Booooo"). Throughout the episode, she pressures him as to why, and he finally breaks down and admits that he can't bear the thought of living without her: "This is everything, and without you, it'd be...nothing."
