There's even a few of these:
- Kwap and Tirrsill hide in a treehouse near a lake, with a suburban home nearby that contains several cats. After a little while, one of the cats comes over to the treehouse, being curious as cats are, and Tirrsill "adopts" him. Then they meet the owner of the house - a black man covered with tattoos and heavily armed. Bad, bad news, right? Wrong. He'd already chased away the assassins looking for them, brings Kwap and Tirrsill desperately needed food, and offers his hand in friendship - which Kwap accepts with a gentle touch.
- That gets even more heartwarming when Kwap is forced to leave Tirrsill behind in the human world. He, Harrell and Vaniss imagine all the horrors that Tirrsill must be going through...and when he returns to the lake house, she's not there. Turns out the family took her into the main house, introduced her to human culture, fed her, made her a brand new set of clothing, and generally pampered her silly. When they see the giant, war-weary new arrivals, they're just as curious and friendly toward them, offering valuable gifts to the appreciative griffins - including the priceless gift of a tablet computer loaded with a complete copy of Wikipedia. After a heartwarming conversation between the entire group and the family (with Coro-er translating), they part friends.
- Kwap starts out exceedingly uncomfortable with Tirrsill's physical familiarity - griffins do not like to be touched by strangers, and rarely touch each other except during sex. By the time it's all over, he's gently scratching Tirrsill and willingly cuddling her under his wing.
- Among the captives, Voll Golden-Nape, barely out of hatchlinghood, is an Iron Woobie and The Heart to Aera. He thinks only of her happiness and is constantly comforting her. It makes it all the more horrible and a Tear Jerker when the humans come to take him away to his death. Aera becomes The Berserker and tries like mad to get out, but falls just short before she's sedated. As she drifts away, Voll whispers final reassurances to her, and gently strokes her until his murderers put him to sleep for the final time.Aera:Please don't go......*falls unconscious*
- It's virtually impossible not to crack a smile when, after the utter hell both have been through, Altera Blue and Kinnee are finally re-united, and form a family with Kreet's surviving chick.
