The Series:

  • Was Laura wrong about David and her other kids? "He'll be reborn" Were her other kids reborn? Or did she repeatedly return and murder her children in the hopes that it would be different this time?

The film:

  • If Angelique was just a servant girl why was she wearing such a nice dress in the first scene where she's told not to look at Barnabas? Also, did anyone else notice Angelique's mother sounds exactly like adult Angelique?
    • Even bigger question: Seeing we find out Angelique is a witch and after the backstory presented before the credits, we find out she's been pretending to be her own descendants for over two centuries after Barnabas' burial, are we even sure if Angelique we see as a child the same one we see as a grown-up, or is Angelique's mother actually THE Angelique we see throughout the whole film and she did away with the child after a certain age and took her place? And even more horrifying, did she tell her "daughter" to not stare at Barnabas because she had her eyes on him, even as a little kid?
    • The Collins family were quite rich, in most rich households back then, it's usually part of the "perks" the be given hand-me-down clothing, or at least nice clothing as a status symbol by the Collins, as in "we are so rich we can afford to make even our maids look nice"

  • Where the hell does the modern-day Collins family come from? It is strongly implied that Barnabas was an only child. We never hear of any other Collins relatives in Maine during Barnabas's time. And if he had had the chance to marry Josette and have a child before becoming a vampire that would have surely been mentioned.
    • The implications of them still having the second name Collins implies that Barnabas' father had a brother or a cousin who inherited after Barnabas' "death" with a mostly male line.
      • Alternatively, males who married a female inheritor elected to take the Collins name since it was more prestigious than their own. It's not super common but it does happen.

  • I'm assuming that Barnabas and Josette were either engaged or at very least intending to get married shortly. During the times they lived in it would have been considered shameful to cohabit or even sleep with someone you weren't married to, so a lot of couples would have gotten married rather quickly. But there's no reason to believe he got a chance to actually marry her. Angelique would never have allowed that to happen and if he had then surely he would have referred to her at least once as his wife rather than simply his true love. So why is there a huge painting of her hanging up in Collinwood? Did he fall in love with a relative or something?
    • Possibly a gift from her father, as they seemed to be engaged at least. or a gift from Barnabas himself. not uncommon.

  • How did Angie's scheme of pretending to be her own descendants for almost two centuries ever remotely manage to work? Did she fake a baby, toddler, child, and teenager until the time when she could step into that role herself? Did she fake age herself when she appeared as the 'mother' to avoid suspicion? Did she fake a husband too? Sure in the 70's having a child out of wedlock wouldn't have been a huge deal but back in Barnabas's time it was a huge no-no and would have completely tarnished her reputation. Surely someone would have realized the Bouchard woman looks identical? Particularly anyone old enough to see several generations of them come and go. Nothing about this scheme makes the slightest bit of sense to me.
    • Angelique probably had a very private wedding ceremony; lived out of town for a year to "give birth"; her Husband dies without a trace; 20 to 30 years later the "mother" retires and the "child" takes over.

  • Did Barnabas not notice Julia had grown fangs when he was bundling her up? That seems like a pretty big thing to miss. And even if he didn't... how did he have no suspicion that she might already be becoming a vampire? He knew as soon as he saw her using his blood that that was what she was trying to do. Did it never occur to him she might have succeeded? And if he did realize that she was well on her way to becoming a vampire why wouldn't he make sure to kill her in a way she couldn't come back from?
    • That is a stupid mistake on Barnabas' part, and will definitely have come back to bite him in the ass (if a sequel is in the works), but perhaps it can be chalked up to him being very distracted by the whole thing with Angelique and Victoria?

  • How could Carolyn have kept being a werewolf a secret for so long if she was bitten in her crib? Surely she would have been too young at that point to hide the transformation
    • Some adaptations suggest that supernatural transformations of that nature only become obvious after puberty; a similar state could apply here
    • If it only became evident at puberty that makes a lot more sense. It still seems odd to me though that Elizabeth wouldn't have noticed something more than just puberty was up with her daughter... seeing how dedicated to and protective of her family she is. Especially Carolyn and David. She goes totally Mama Bear on Barnabas just for talking to them the first time she meets him.
      • Carolyn seems to have complete control during her transformation, it's possible she simply had an early night during full moon, and her being withdrawn from her mother was chalked up to her being a teenager.

  • Was Maggie/Victoria walking to Widows Hill at the end part of Angelique's spell or Maggie/Victoria's own choice? The film seems to imply it was Angelique's doing. Particularly as she threatened to do exactly that in an earlier scene... and was visibly angry and hurt when she saw them kissing at the party. However, Angelique was dead by the time she walks to Widow's Hill and Maggie/Victoria seems lucid enough when Barnabas stops her at the very edge.
    • The spell might have been wearing off, but not enough to stop herself, or she knew that Barnabas would never allow her to become a vampire willingly, so she leapt off herself, knowing he would turn her to save her.

  • What the heck was up with Maggie/Victoria saying 'Josette' after being turned into a vampire? Did she just want to be called Josette? Did the vampire conversion give her access to memories from her former life as Josette? Did Josette pull a grand theft me and actually take over her body?
    • Possibly some from of mental fusion from "dying" and coming back, either that or she decided to take on her ancestors name, in honor of her, as well as her "Victoria" name was made up on the spot, she might not have really liked it.

  • Why would Maggie/Victoria's parents send her to an Insane Asylum just because of what would seem to be an 'imaginary friend.' It's not like it's a crime for a child to have an overactive imagination (even though it was really a ghost that only she could see). Sending her away seems like major overkill
    • We only saw one small part of the overall interaction between Maggie and the ghost, so we have no clear way of knowing the extent of their relationship or how the rest of the world perceived it.
      • Not only that, we don't know what Maggie said to her parents about the ghost. For all we know, she could have told her about the ghost's past, which might include how it died, which would probably put parents on edge as a result.

  • If Maggie/Victoria is expected at Collinwood, isn't it a little strange that she arrives there using a name she had chosen during the trip and would not have been using while arrangements were being made, with no one thinking anything of the name switch?
