Alligator Baby

  • The whole premise of the book is that Kristen's parents went to the zoo by accident instead of the hospital when the mother went into labour and they keep bringing home baby animals instead of their son.
  • When Kristen says, "That's not my brother!", the parents think she's just jealous.
  • When Kristen unwraps the swaddling blanket to reveal the baby's body parts, she always says, "That's not a people X", even if it's a body part that people don't have, for instance a tail.

Deep Snow

  • Kate sings a rhyme whenever the snow comes up to a particular body part. When it gets to her posterior, she sings, "Poor bum, it's all numb".

Down the Drain

  • The two kids overflow the bath, to the extent that water fills up the bathroom and they have fun swimming in it. The boy refuses to pull the plug unless his dad buys him something.

I Have to Go!

  • At one point, when Andrew is asked if he has to go pee, he responds, "No— I have decided never to pee again!".
  • At the end, Andrew asks his grandfather if he has to pee.
    Grandpa: "All the time!"
    Andrew: "Well, so do I."

I'm So Embarrassed

  • When Taylor Jae's mother is first introduced, she's showing her daughter some underpants that she wants to buy her... but Andrew is right in front of her.
    Taylor Jae: "Really, Mom. Undies? In a boy's face?!"
  • The mothers berate Andrew and Taylor Jae for being "sensitive"... only to get embarrassed themselves when their kids tell everyone in the shop that their mothers snore.
    Mothers: "How could you embarrass us so?"
    Kids: "We had good teachers!"

Mortimer

  • The premise is that the eponymous boy keeps agreeing to be quiet... but then breaking his promise and singing a song about being noisy. His parents, his seventeen siblings, and even the police can't convince him to stop singing.

Moving Day

  • When two parents ask their oldest kid, Danielle, to keep an eye on her younger siblings on moving day, she packs them into boxes.

Playhouse

  • When Renee goes a bit overboard on her playhouse and keeps asking for more play objects, she even asks for a play mommy and a play daddy. Her mother says, "But you have a real mommy and a real daddy!", and Renee retorts by saying her parents are bossy. The mother makes a play Renee, saying that Renee is also bossy, so Renee destroys the play Renee and kisses her mother.
    Renee's mother: "Was that a real kiss or a play kiss?"
    Renee: "That was a real kiss, from a real bossy daughter to her real bossy mother."
    Renee's mother: "Good— I like real, bossy kids better than play kids anyway."

Seeing Red

  • Arie pretends he got his red hair from eating red food, and then Alex tricks him back by pretending his black hair is from black food.

Stephanie's Ponytail

  • Stephanie's classmates, and even the teachers, copy her ponytails, so at the end, she says she will shave her head, so the people at school do that... only it was a trick and she didn't shave her head.

Swamp Water

  • This conversation between Victoria and the waiter.
    Victoria: "I'll have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich."
    Waiter: "We don't serve those here."
    Victoria: "Do you have bread?"
    Waiter: "Yes."
    Victoria: "Do you have peanut butter?"
    Waiter: "Yes."
    Victoria: "Do you have jelly?"
    Waiter: "Yes."
    Victoria: "Well, stick them together, then!"
  • Victoria orders "swamp water", which is a gross mixture of different drinks.

Thomas' Snowsuit

  • The premise of the story is that Thomas doesn't want to wear his snowsuit. When he fights with adults in their attempts to get it onto him, they end up swapping clothes.

We Share Everything!

  • After being told repeatedly that "This is kindergarten, and in kindergarten, we share everything, Jillian and Alex swap clothes. Alex finds it cool that he's the only boy in the class who's wearing pink.
