Empress Theresa is actually quite a funny book. Unfortunately, none of it was intentional

The Book:

  • The mere fact the secret government organization monitoring Theresa is called Office of Orbital Phenomena Surveillance, yes, it's called OOPS, and the book treats it with utmost seriousness.
  • The mention of the "horse doggie door" commercial. This was supposed to be a heartwarming story that cheered Theresa up when she was being "bullied," but the absurdity of the description makes it hard to take seriously. Adding to the hilarity, it is a real Amazon commercial that the author completely misinterpreted.
  • Chapter 4 is just one big funny moment after another:
    • Theresa is to be killed via atomic bomb. It's hilarious due to how ridiculously overkill it is.
    • Without knowing what's going to happen, Theresa takes two gallons of coke (literally eleven bottles of coke!) in a garbage bag... and she is allowed this.
    • She's given thermal underwear and an oxygen mask... when they intend to kill her.
    • She's also allowed to carry the soda bottles with her. Into the plane. Where she is going to die. And it's dismissed as the irrational behaviour of someone who is about to die.
    • Theresa's plan involves putting the soda bottles into her jumpsuit. This will somehow let her stay buoyant.
  • It's mentioned that if Theresa can create enough helium, they could survey terrorists with dirigibles.

Meta:

  • Some of the reviews, especially the more detailed ones, this book has spawned in its wake are pretty amusing to read, some may be even more chuckleworthy than the book itself. "My kingdom for a turkey sandwich" stands out:
"'Empress Theresa' is not a bad book. Neither is it a terrible book. It is one of those things, like 50 Cent's music, that convinces me of the infinite mercy of God. Anything lesser than infinite mercy would have struck down 50 Cent long ago, 'Bulletproof' be hanged, and anything less than infinite mercy would have incinerated this book before it was unleashed on an unsuspecting public."
