As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

Despite its nature, this game still has some amusing moments.

  • Some encyclopedia entries can be rather funny:
    • The Black Sea Bass is described as a fearsome predator — if you are a small shrimp.
    • The Gulf Flounder is called pathetic and cowardly, giving a weird impression that the Fisherman has some kind of a grudge against the poor innocent fish.
    • Most entries give some interesting tidbits of trivia regarding the various fish and crustacean species. The Spider Crab is just called a freakishly huge crab.
  • When asked if there are any shipwrecks around Gale Cliffs, the Retired Whaler bitterly remarks that the real wreck is the neighboring town. We suspect there might be some hostility there...
  • The Artifact Manifest (one of the messages found in Gale Cliffs) has some interesting entries:
    • The Wooden Mask, which is said to bring good luck, protection from evil, and all kinds of blessings, has been traded for a pair of socks and a pocket watch chain.
    • The 12 Piece China Set has a huge "DO NOT USE" warning.
    • The Jar of Earth is a jar of earth from a meteor impact site. Allegedly.
  • The Travelling Merchant's unfailingly chipper attitude can be amusing.
    • If asked whether she's always out on the water, the Merchant replies that she likes to travel because she gets to see a lot of places, which is nice. And a lot of people, which is only sometimes nice.
    • If asked whether she has ever seen anything strange at sea, the Merchant says that if you just look at them the right way, all the strange things will turn out to be completely normal and harmless... or maybe they won't and you'll be totally screwed.
  • If you honk your boat's horn when a Night Angler is present, it will sound its horn back. If you sound your horn multiple times in different lengths like a rhythm however, it will copy whatever "tune" you made with your horn with the exact same length of horn notes. Depending on which version you're playing, doing this will also get you an achievement.
  • The game puts a big emphasis on how creepy and unnatural the Abberations are. The Painter just wants to make new paints out of them.
  • In a bit of Black Humor, even the usually unflappable Fisherman reaches his limit of weirdness after dealing with the Figure in Red and immediately leaves.
  • After you rescue the Castaway, who has been stuck on a small uninhabited island, and bring him to Little Marrow, he cheers at the "sweet, rank smell of civilization".
  • When you give her the stray dog, the usually serious Researcher immediately starts squeeing over it.
