Fridge Brilliance

  • In the comics the Scarab comes from an alien race known as the Reach whose mortal enemies are the Green Lantern Corp. Puts it into perspective that their Scarabs also use the ability to create weapons out of thought.
  • Given that the Reach are generally hostile invaders, the Scarab immediately taking Jaime into the atmosphere may not be a The World Is Just Awesome moment but an initial look to see if there are any space-based defenses.
  • Given that the scarab is presumably connected to Jaime's mind in order to know what he wants it to build ("Whatever you can imagine, I can create") it is not really surprising to see it speaking English, since presumably it downloaded the knowledge on how to from Jaime's mind.
    • The English is likely due to its previous host Dan Garrett. But once Jaime and the Scarab fully merge it does start speaking in Spanish.
  • The references to El ChapulĂn Colorado are not just in the movie as a Shout-Out to Mexican culture, they are also thematically relevant, as El Chapulin is an incompetent superhero who nevertheless has access to remarkably advanced technote , as the movie implies was the case with Ted Kord's stint as the Blue Beetle.
  • After Jaime is kidnapped by Victoria, Alberto dies from his heart attack, and their house is severely damaged from a fire, the Reyes are too depressed to think of what to do next, except for Nana, who encourages the family to rescue Jaime and mourn their losses later. After learning that Nana used to be Mexican revolutionary, it makes sense that she can pull herself together after a tragedy like this. She's probably used to losing her friends during the revolution and she understands she needs to press on to continue the fight.
  • Assuming Victoria Kord is in her 70s, it's possible Ted Kord first began his superhero career in the 1960s. It would explain the quirky 'bug fart' switch in his Blue Beetle ship. The Ted Kord Blue Beetle from the comics first appeared in 1966, the same year as the zany 1960s Batman TV show.
  • The reason for the Purple Is Powerful motif of Kord Industries? Because Victoria Kord has been attempting to make something better than the current Omacs, which are red, by studying the blue Khaji Da. Red mixed with blue equals purple.
  • It may seem like the film follows the more mainstream representation of Scarabs being alien technology rather than alien magic, Jaime communing with his deceased father leave the door open for the Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane to be magic after all.

Fridge Horror

  • When you think about it, Victoria's plan is to copy over the Scarab's code into her OMAC units to build a literal army. There is nothing to indicate she studied or altered the code. Given the fact that the Reach are invaders who send the scarabs as advance scouts and infiltrators, she likely would have given them a back door and localized army to alien invaders, one that likely would have had time to integrate itself with Earth's militaries.
