Time Resetting, Relationships, and Other Shenanigans is a Rick and Morty fanfic by BlueLightningAndNexus.

After Rick reveals the truth of the time reset button to Morty and merges the timelines, everyone remembers everything Morty did...including his girlfriend from that episode, who suddenly remembers the entirety of their relationship. Seeking to reach out to Morty, they meet up, and as they reforge their relationship, she learns how she forgot him in the first place.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In The Vat of Acid Episode, Morty's relationship with his girlfriend ends on a tragic note. After Morty meets this girl at the café and starts dating her, their relationship has ups and downs. They even break up and get back together before deciding to take a plane trip; then the plane crash, and Morty and his girlfriend have to work together to survive with the survivors. After Morty and his girlfriend are rescued, his father accidentally presses the reset button, resetting the time before they start their relationship. Morty was heartbroken when their relationship was erased from her memory, let made this worse is that Rick later fused the timeline together, and Morty had to fake his death by jumping into a fake vat of acid, his girlfriend, who is implied to regain her memory saw him fake his death and was devastated. And with the revelation that the reality this episode took place and was not Rick and Morty's home reality, it was unlikely Morty would see his girlfriend again. In this story, because the events of that episode take place in Rick and Morty's home reality, Morty's girlfriend is able to contact him and learn that he is still alive; Morty explains everything to his girlfriend, in the story ends with the two of them getting back together.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: In the ending of the "The Vat of Acid Episode" it is revealed that the reality of the events of the episodes was not Rick and Morty reality because Rick did not want to use their home reality to teach Morty a lesson. In this story, the events of the episode take place in Rick and Morty's home reality, allowing Morty to reconnect with his girlfriend, who he met in this episode.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After the events of The Vat of Acid Episode, both Morty Smith and his girlfriend Jane Nguyen were put through a lot of heartache and pain. After six months in a relationship with their ups and downs, they barely survive a plane crash; then, because Morty's father accidentally presses the reset button, their relationship is erased from Jane's mind, too, Morty's heartbreak. When Jane gets her memories back and goes to Morty's house to talk with him, she sees him jumping and event of acid to fake his death to her heartbreak. Morty was broken by the events of the episode and heartbroken that Jane was gone; however, looking through his room, he realized the gifts that she gave him were there; realizing that the timeline had been reset, he checked his phone and found that Jane I tried to call him. Morty called Jane; Jane was happy that Morty was ok but was confused about what happened. Morty meets Jane at a hill they spend time together when they date; after Morty explains what happened and they talk about their relationship, with Morty regarding that he was not a better boyfriend, Jane tells him that he saved her life and not to focus on the past. The story ends with Jane happy that she's with someone like Morty.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In The Vat of Acid Episode, the girl Morty dated was unnamed and listed as "Morty's Girlfriend." In this story, her name is revealed to be Jane Nguyen.
  • Shout-Out: In this story, Morty's girlfriend from The Vat of Acid Episode is named Jane Nguyen because the author is a huge fan of BoJack Horseman and Diane from that show and believes that Morty's girlfriend was bi-racial; it looks like her mother was Asian, and her father was Caucasian when Morty met them.
