Meanwhile, Ponyville is getting a new resident: Famed Equestrian musician Vinyl Scratch, also known by her stage name DJ PON-3. Having just gone through a tragedy of her own, Vinyl tries to pick up the pieces and start anew.
But what about the Troll that killed Scootaloo's parents? And does the attack have anything to do with the great Troll/Equestrian war that took place hundreds of years ago? And what is notorious Manehattan mobster Capofamiglia Clydesdale up to in Ponyville? Could he have anything to do with it?
A series of events unfolds that leads to Rainbow Dash, Scootaloo, Applejack, and Vinyl Scratch embarking on a heroic journey into the Troll homeland... the forbidden region north of Equestria known only to outsiders as The Uncharted Land.
