Astrid in Wonderville
by ETNMystic is a Ride the Cyclone Fan Fic mixed with elements of Theatre/Legoland as well. The fic takes place post-canon in which Astrid has suspicions that the disaster may not have been an accident and so she takes three others with her to the ruins of the Wonderville Traveling Fair to investigate, but things begin to take a turn into madness.
The story in general provides examples of:
- Dead Person Conversation: Astrid and the other three use a spirit box to contact the five deceased students.
- Dead to Begin With: Knowing the canon, it shouldn't be surprising that Ocean, Noel, Mischa, Ricky, and Constance are all ghosts when the party arrives at the abandoned fair.
- Down the Rabbit Hole: In a literal sense to Astrid in Chapter 5. Seems reasonable due to the fic title's allusion.
- Friendly Ghost: Technically all of them, but Constance Blackwood in particular; she takes her parents' lesson of being hospitable to guests to the afterlife by making Astrid and the others funnel cake and including cups of water with it.
- Ghostly Wail: Played for laughs with Noel Gruber in response to Ocean substituting swear words with ice cream flavors.
- Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Ocean O'Connell Rosenberg, substituting swear words for ice cream flavors "That son of a butterscotch" and "At least I don't drop the f-bomb with every other banana fudge swirl word" as two examples with the occasional spoonerism "futher-mucker". The former brings about wails from fellow apparition Noel Gruber.
- Gut Feeling: Shown in Chapter 3 when Astrid confesses exactly what her theory is about the Cyclone disaster; she has a feeling that someone sabotaged the roller coaster to get them killed.
- Literary Allusion Title: Especially based on what happened in chapter 5; "Astrid in Wonderville" sounds not unlike "Alice in Wonderland."...
- Mythology Gag: Hank and Astrid are actually two characters who were originally in Ride the Cyclone while it was going through changes and reworks. The fic is centered around the latter.
- Never Split the Party: Astrid to Constance when they're trying to sneak away from the shadow getting closer to them, pointing out that "Splitting up is number one way to ensure death; we can never split up. Is cardinal rule of survival in literally every horror movie ever," to which Constance says she'd never really seen any.
- Official Couple: Hank and Astrid were a couple in canon and are also one in the fic.
- So Much for Stealth: Chapter 4 when the four teens that are alive are trying to slowly escape from a shadow stumbling towards them. Doesn't go too well as Ezra loudly drops the spirit box on accident and yells "Shit!" because of it. Cue shadow sprinting into a chase.
