Agent 4
is a series of fanfictions on Archive Of Our Own, written by EikaPrime, based on the Splatoon franchise. The series concerns Lucky, a young inkling girl who must balance her duties as the titular Agent 4 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon with meeting new friends and dealing with her overbearing parents. The installments so far are:
Lucky directly adapts Splatoon 2's Hero Mode, as Marie recruits an unlikely new agent.
Spectator features the aftermath of Lucky, as Callie takes a break to recover. She and Marie spend that break observing their new agent's progress in ranked battles, while learning more about her family.
The Twelve Days Of Squidmas was the final installment of 2021. Callie and Marie learn more about Lucky's dysfunctional home life, while the new agent learns more about Agents 3 and 8.
Relatively Lucky involves Marie trying to keep the New Squidbeak Splatoon maintained, with Lucky trying to decide between Inkopolis and her family.
Food Of Love is about Marlin, aka Agent 3, and their interactions with Agent Eight and Lucky, as well as their cooking.
Pouring sees Captain Cuttlefish trying to get to know his youngest agent with some recon work, learning about Lucky's phobia in the process.
Lucky Charm focuses on Lucky joining a professional turf war team, the Dueling Dualies, and fighting in a tournament.
Inkfluenza features Callie looking after the rest of the New Squidbeak Splatoon as a particularly nasty inkfluenza strain hits Inkopolis.
(Un)Lucky, the final work in the series, features Lucky's family visiting Inkopolis.
The Agent 4 Series contains examples of:
- Abusive Parents: Lucky has these. Her parents work at the prison in her hometown of Fort Mariner, and treat their own household like a prison with their children being forced to conform to borderline puritanical sensibilities and forgoing any form of recreation that doesn't serve their parents' benefit. And of course, they're even homophobic as well!
- Adorably Precocious Child: Lucky, despite being only 14 years old, is both stated and demonstrated to be one of the New Squidbeak Splatoon's best agents. She also has a determination and kindness despite her miserable home life, which only serves to make her all the more endearing.
- Alliterative Name: Downplayed. Lucky's real name is Tulia Tulip Todarodes, but she absolutely hates it for obvious reasons.
- Cool Big Bro: Alan is this to Lucky. Or at least, he wants to be, but her parents disowned him for being gay and force their other children, Lucky included, to avoid him like the plague.
- Given Name Reveal: After being completely unknown for most of the series, the final installment casually namedrops Lucky's biological parents' names as Matthew and Karen.
- Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: All 4 chapters of Spectator are named after the four ranked modes in Splatoon 2.
- Each chapter of The Twelve Days Of Squidmas is named for the date, from december 18 to december 26.
- Pouring has weather-related terms.
- Knight of Cerebus: Lucky's parents manage to be this despite not showing up in person until part 7. The series is mostly lighthearted fun, but at some point or another the way they treat their own children WILL make your stomach squirm.
- One Head Taller: Eight is this to Marlin, who in turn is this to Lucky.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Lucky's parents are absolutely this, being homophobic, transphobic, and every other phobic to the point where they're more than willing to disown their children over it.
