Mojang Studiosnote is a Swedish video game developer based in Stockholm. Founded in 2009 by Markus "Notch" Persson as a successor to another company with the same name, the studio is best-known for creating the global phenomenon that is Minecraft — the best-selling video game of all time. The company was originally named Mojang Specifications, but renamed to just Mojang after only a year. In 2020, Mojang was rebranded to Mojang Studios.
In 2014, Mojang was acquired by Microsoft Studios, now known as Xbox Game Studios, for a record $2.5 billion (for comparison, Microsoft's historic buyout of Rare was "only" $375 million). Because Minecraft was already available for non-Xbox platforms, and because it's such a lucrative franchise, Minecraft continues to be supported outside of Xbox/Windows to this day and was even the front-runner for crossplay gaming.
No relation to Molang.
