Mojang Studiosnote is a Swedish video game developer based in Stockholm. Founded in 2009 by Markus "Notch" Persson as Mojang AB, the company is best-known for creating the global phenomenon that is Minecraft — the best-selling video game of all time.
In 2014, Mojang Studios was acquired by Microsoft Studios, now known as Xbox Game Studios, for a record $2.5 billion (for comparison, Microsoft's historic buyout of Rare was "only" $375 million). Because Minecraft was already available for non-Xbox platforms, and because it's such a lucrative franchise, Minecraft continues to be supported outside of Xbox/Windows to this day and was even the front-runner for crossplay gaming.
