Gavin Hood (born 12 May 1963) is a South African director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. The son of a notable English-South African retailer, Hood was born in Johannesburg, studied law at Wits and film in California, and got his start in the late 90s creating educational short films for the South African Department of Health.
Hood's 2005 film Tsotsi won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His most recent work is the British film Official Secrets.
