Samurai

The first trainer Ash faces off against in a fair battle, he is from Alola.
  • Adaptational Badass: He has a Golisopod as his starter Pokémon. He also catches a Vespiquen.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Due to Makoto catching the Weedle, he never blames Ash for the troubles caused.
  • Ascended Extra: He makes his return along with AJ in Chapter 20 during the Butterfree Season of Love.
  • Worthy Opponent: He compliments Ash on being the one to battle his Golisopod.

    A.J. 

A.J.

An undefeated Trainer who runs an unofficial gym.
  • Adaptational Badass: His Sandshrew manages to evolve into a Sandslash during Team Rocket's battle.
  • Ascended Extra: He makes his return along with Samurai in Chapter 20 during the Butterfree Season of Love.

    Gary Oak 

Gary Oak

Ash's main rival and grandson of Professor Oak.
  • Adaptational Karma: Compared to canon, he gets into an occasional misfortune. During the Pokémon Race in Chapter 39, he and his Arcanine tripped after Dario had his Dodrio peck him nearing the race's end.
  • Break the Haughty: Zig-zagged that he still throws the occasional snide remark. In Chapter 32, his recent attempt at swaying the Remix Heart girls to his side gets him at the receiving end of Kajun and Tsubaki's "The Reason You Suck" Speech, causing him and his cheerleaders to drive off in fear, with the latter screaming. Ash was awestruck.
  • Hypocrite: Gary denounces Ash as a 'lame amateur who brags about their Pokémon' when the former does the same thing. As Kajun points out, not once Ash has ever talked about them in their rivalry encounters.
  • Jerkass: Just as much as an insufferable jerk like in canon. He even tries to invite the Remix Heart girls as his personal cheerleaders just to spite Ash.

  • Gentle Giant: Described by Samurai as ferocious in battle, but the most gentle out of his party.
