Crew of the Asuka

The Asuka serves as a freighter spaceship under the ownership of the Japanese Space Self-Defense Force and is also affiliated with the United Nations Space Force. However, with minimal major conflicts requiring military deployment, the ship primarily operates as a high-end freighter for civilian purposes, shuttling cargo between planets. One such mission involves transporting goods for the Hoshino Group, a prominent Japanese corporation owned by Yuusuke Hoshino, Kaguya's father. Kaguya herself, along with her friend Sgt. Akane Araki, is aboard the ship en route to Earth. Unfortunately, fate seems to have alternative plans in store for the two women and its crew.

Tropes about the ship and its crew

Captain Yoko Kurosawa (黒沢ようこ大尉 Kurosawa Youko-taii)

The captain of the Asuka and also a good friend and confident of Akane. Highly respected by the crew of the ship, she tries her best on trying to protect the men and women at her command.
  • Cool Old Lady: Despite being a quite old woman, she was a very charismatic and friendly person with her people under her orders. Akane particularly admires here and despite Capt. Kurosawa being Akane's senior, her relationship was more like friends rather than senior and junior respectively.
  • Going Down with the Ship: When the mysterious drones attacked and overran the Asuka's defenses, Capt. Kurosawa sacrified her life on staying on the ship in order to allow all the crew to escape before the Asuka exploded.
  • Tempting Fate: Capt. Kurosawa planned to go on vacation to Hawaii once she returned to Earth to visit her daughter Fumiko, who was expecting a baby, and see her new granddaughter, before the Asuka was attacked.

Lieutenant Keisuke Noguchi (野口圭介中尉 Noguchi Keisuke-chuii)

Akane's junior subordinate, who was aboard the Asuka. He was the other survivor from the attack on the Asuka, and he managed to reach planet Katmandu on an escape pod, only to be captured by the Romalian warriors led by Arn and his men after the pod landed on the planet, and being fatally injured when trying to escape from them, when his dead body was found by Kayce from the Highland tribe days later, but not before Arn and his goons found the tribe's village, causing them to try to raid it, and trying to capture both Akane and the people living on the place.
  • Due to the Dead: Despite being both a human and not being a member of the Highland tribe to begin with, Noguchi is buried with the same honors reserved for the warrior members of the tribe, out of respect for him and his senior officer, Akane Araki,
  • Killed Offscreen: Noguchi was killed by the Romalian raiders led by Arn after he tried to escape from them. His corpse, then, ended up in the Highland tribe's village when he, dying, fell into a river, being swept away by the current and his body is found by Kayce when she was taking a bath there.
  • Posthumous Character : All we know about him was via Akane after he died at the hands of Arn and his men.

Haruo Tanuma (田沼春夫 Tanuma Haruo)

Tanuma is the legal representative of the Hoshino Group at both the JSSDF and the UNSF in planet New Haiti, as well to be the one representing the company within the Asuka, the vessel tasked with transporting vital company cargo back to Earth. However, there's many sketchy things behind this man...
  • Ambiguously Evil: It's pretty obvious Tanuma was hiding something behind his sleeves, not only at the crew of the Asuka, but also for Kaguya, the daughter of this own boss and CEO of the company he works for, since she didn't knew that he was on board of the ship. Also, he seems to had some agenda unknown to everyone else, since the cargo had the highest level of clearance possible, normally reserved for top secret information, and when Akane tried to confront him, the Asuka is attacked, and then, destroyed by the alien drones protecting planet Katmandu.
