Awesome / The Heather Wells Mysteries

Go To

Size 12 Is Not Fat

  • Heather noting that girls don't elevator surf, and calling out Chris Allington for taking advantage of innocent freshmen
  • As twisted as the killer's motives and means were, Rachel's successful murders have to count. Even Heather doesn't figure it out until she sees the evidence in front of her: Rachel would tase her victims after calling them to her office, and then push their bodies into the elevator shafts.
  • Mrs. Allington, while drunk and recently electrocuted knocks down Rachel with a wine bottle and then pronounces she's Size 12 like Heather, when Rachel insulted Heather for being fat.

Size 14 Is Not Fat Either

  • Heather getting a lead on drug dealers on campus, and calling out Kimberly's roommate for attempting to frame the gay basketball coach.
  • Cooper also gets one that doubles as a Heartwarming Moment: the reason why he hasn't pursued Heather despite her interest is because he doesn't want to take advantage of her while she's on the rebound.

Big Boned

  • Cooper shaking down Sarah to get information about the murder suspect, Sebastian, who happens to be Sarah's boyfriend.
  • Heather facing the killer, and surviving a shootout while rescuing the killer's cat.

Size 12 and Ready to Rock

  • Heather:
    • Shuts down unauthorized filming at the Allington Penthouse, reminding Christopher in front of his new girlfriend about his previous actions in Size 12 Is Not Fat leading to several girls getting murdered. This allows EMTs to check on Tania Trace, who has just fainted.
    • Obtains information from Tania about who is trying to kill her, and not-so-subtly reminding Tania that the latter stole Jordan.
    • Surviving a dinner with the Cartwrights, even though Cooper has to bribe her with a cleaning service for the apartment.
    • Cooper says he's going to shoot Gary Hall if the latter threatens Tania again and "happens to wander into range." Since Heather has a problem with Cooper having a gun, he asks her thoughts on it.note  Heather responds thus:
"Not as long as you don't miss.''
    • Figures out that Tania's ex-husband Gary Hall is on campus when she hears that one of the camp girl's Orthodox Jewish boyfriend is named Billy Bigelow. For those who don't know, Billy Bigelow is a character from the play Carousel.
    • Uses a doll she gave Tania to stab Gary Hall's hand before he can fire, which gives her and Tania time to escape.
  • Cooper:
    • Taking Gavin, Jamie and Heather prisoner during the paintball war, proving himself a dead-shot with a paintball gun. Counts as Foreshadowing.
    • Threatens many people to not tell his brother Jordan about Cooper's upcoming marriage to Heather, given that Jordan is Heather's ex. Then tells his brother about the wedding, in the middle of berating him for not reporting the threatening letter that Gary Hall sent him, which promised Tania "a world of hurt".
    • Fires a literal Chekhov's Gun on Gary Hall.
    • Bills his father enough money so that he and Heather can have a wedding in the Plaza.
    • When Heather reveals that she can't have children due to endometriosis, Cooper calms her down, pointing out that neither of their jobs — private investigator and residence hall assistant— allow them much time for raising kids, and that they don't need children to be happy. He then discusses how kids can turn out differently from what the parents expect, like Heather and Cooper did, and that they shouldn't be conceived to take care of the parents in old age.

  • Other:
    • The nighttime security guard Wynona, residence hall director Lisa Wu, and Coach Andrews all get one when the underage camp girls stage an inappropriate dance in front of a few basketball players. Wynona has the whole performance taped, Lisa tells the girls' parents, and Coach Andrews makes his players run several laps around the square.
    • Lisa Wu, period, for being the only one of Heather's bosses to not be a Yandere, a Nice Guy who receives a promotion, or a murder victim in that order.
    • Tania standing up to her ex-husband while the latter is holding a gun. Also, her admitting that Jordan is babyish about life.
    • Tom Snelling and the security guard Pete breaking open a door by body-slamming it.
    • Cooper Cartwright's father, Grant Cartwright, luring his son into a meeting, to hire him as Tania's new bodyguard. The guy may be a Corrupt Corporate Executive, but he is good.
    • Producer Stephanie telling off one of the mothers at the end of the book, because the mother's daughter Cassidy is "a bitch".

The Bride Wore Size 12

  • Cooper's moments overlap with Heartwarming Moment:
    • He has become Genre Savvy to know that someone will try to murder Heather once a dead body shows up in the Death Dorm, so he calls in a friend to give her a gun that she can fire comfortably. Guess what shows up later.
    • Don't make Heather cry; even if you're Cooper's little sister, he will tear you down.
    • Asks Detective Canavan to escort Heather home for her safety, which Canavan does under the pretext of taking her in for questioning.
    • When Heather's mom shows up, Cooper doesn't let her stay in their brownstone apartment. He then tails her against Heather's wishes, and gets her mother's ex-boyfriend arrested when the former tries to push him under a cab.
  • Heather's moments in her last book.
    • Calling out her mother for stealing her money as a pop singer when the former shows up a month before the wedding with seven suitcases, not buying the excuse that dearest mom wants to make things right.
    • Not allowing a freshman's mom to bully her into giving little Kaleigh a single just because her roommate Ameera is a "slut". During the entire book.
    • Calling out all the fired RAs for lying about the party where they last saw their dead coworker Jasmine, choosing to cover their butts since the party served alcohol to minors, and mentioning that they have never apologized. Of course, one of them turns out to be Jasmine's murderer...
    • After realizing that Prince Rashid and Ameera are innocent, Heather figures out in a few minutes who the real killer is. And nearly gets the evidence without getting caught. Also being Genre Savvy to realize that she needs proof, after the police didn't believe her in Size 12 Is Not Fat.
    • A mild one: learns that her boss is pregnant and upset about it and offers her comforting but necessary advice. Especially since Heather can't have children due to endometriosis and she remains the better person.
    • Shoots said killer Howard Chen with an illegal gun, non-lethally, and then disposes of the gun before the police come.

  • Other:
    • Prince Rashid and his wife Ameera for risking his father's wrath and financial support and coming out into the open after Heather encourages them to share a dorm room together. Ameera is technically a British commoner and thus not "eligible" to marry him; Rashid's father would kill her the way he killed Rashid's aunt.
    • Rashid's mother starting a Twitter account to support her son's marriage and campaign for women's rights. Mama Bear using technology to support her only child.
    • Detective Canavan's discussion on the killer Howard Chen, which essentially says that there are a lot of people who suffer in this world and they don't become murderers, telling Heather to feel no pity. Also tells Heather to wash her hands, since they probably have gunpowder residue from her shooting Howard.
    • Lizzie Nichols making a cameo. Also, Heather getting a Lizzie Nichols wedding dress.
