Chapter 2: The Breaking Point

The next day, Starfire, Robin and Cyborg ask Raven about the Dark Prognosticus, but she doesn't know much about it, only that Trigon made it, and she can't read or destroy it. In spite of that, she hopes that as long as no one can read it, no one will be able to unleash the power, so the others decide to keep it where it is.

Beast Boy continues "spying" on Terra, at which point her two "idiot friends" (Jackie and Jilian), arrive and, taking umbrage at Beast Boy's presence, beat him up. It's somewhat surprising that two characters debuted in the last episode and have only a few minutes of screentime get the Ron the Death Eater treatment.

Beast Boy doesn't resist at first, until Terra gets hurt by being hit in the face with some mud several times in succession (which is represented with the clip of Beast Boy's failed attempt at testing Terra's power), resulting in Beast Boy getting shocked, and Jackie and Jillian getting Oh Crap! faces.

At this point, the "tense" music, which was quite repetitive, switches out for a moment as Beast Boy transforms into his beast form, and he beats them up even worse than what they did to him, only refraining from killing them because it's against his code. They look fairly bad as they are, though, even considering the hastily done job of adding injuries (how awful the animation and art are has to be seen to be believed).

Terra is speechless, but the Beast refrains from attacking her, as she is not a villain or a bad person (which kills two birds with one stone- demonizing Terra's new friends and whitewashing Terra herself).

Beast Boy's transformation fades, and the other Titans catch up with him, understandably not happy with what he's done. Beast Boy tries to explain himself (we never see what he said in his defense), but the other Titans don't listen. The only one who could vouch for him, Terra, has gone into hiding, not liking hearing Beast Boy being wrongly blamed for something (although, unlike his apparent attack on Raven in "The Beast Within," this is his fault), but not wanting the others to recognize her. Considering that in canon, Beast Boy reluctantly accepted her decision in the end, she could have convinced the others to do so as well.

Robin warns Beast Boy that he'll be sorry if he does anything like that again; considering that he threatened to take Beast Boy to jail in "The Beast Within," there are actual measures for Titans who are out of line that he could take. He's meant to come off as a jerk, but ends up seeming passive and ineffectual, meaning he ends up coming off badly, albeit not the way the author intended.

Beast boy lies in bed, Wangsting, and "Nobody's Hero" by Richard Yearwood plays. Eventually, he wakes up in the night and composes his resignation letter; after struggling to choose a salutation ("Dear Titans" is "too normal," "Dear friends" is too "friendly" and "Dear Lynch Mob" is perfect), he complains about being accused of things he didn't intentionally do, says the Titans are not truly his friends, and they, not he, are the ones acting "foolish and crazy." He says that they treat him poorly, in spite of "the nicer things" he did for them, and adds "Tell Raven to TAKE THAT BACK!" He then concludes that he's leaving, since he doesn't want to be a bother or put up with their "greif" anymore, and after signing the letter, tells them to think of the root beer stain as his tears.

Essentially, the letter says a great deal about this fic's skewed morality (Beast Boy comes off as a whiner rather than sympathetic), and the quality of most of the writing (the dialogue, at least what the author shows us, is especially poor).

Next Installment: Some new villains arrive in town, and the heroes receive bad news about the missing Beast Boy.

Just so we're clear, how much control does Beast Boy have over his beast form? Because, in some versions, including the rerelease, the author states that it's a form Beast Boy has no control over.

N Harmonik,

In the video I watched, it said the following.

"They lucky The Beast wouldn't kill because BB won't kill, or they'd look even worse than this! Terra didn't know what to say or even think. But the Beast was not willing to go after her, as it only ever attacked villains or bad people."

As far as I know, it's similar to how it was in the show; completely out of Beast Boy's control, but with a semblance of Beast Boy's personality (To quote the "Awesome" section of Teen Titans, "Because even when he's going crazy and out of control and is doubted by his team, Beast Boy remains a hero who WILL NOT let someone get away with attacking his friends.")
