Part 2: Names From the Past

Welcome back.

Previously on the liveblogging of My Little Eye, we met our Dramatis Personae, and the stakes rose for the first time. Little to no food, no heat, and Danny found out that his grandfather was dead. Also, they had to deal with jerkass Rex.

Well, we'll dive right back in with...

Part 2

We hear music from an Evil Dead video game that Rex is playing. As Emma freshens up in the bathroom, she sees the words "Sick Bitch" on a window. Oh, boy...

She calls Charlie to come take a look, and there it is. Wondering what's going on, Charlie thinks that it's one of the guys, but Emma believes that it's someone else.

And who is this "someone else"? When the two women head to downstairs, Emma talks about the boy who killed his parents. Yeah, remember him? He's John Riley. And he isn't just a kid Emma went to school with, oh, no. He's a kid who used to live on her street.

Um...we all know where this is going.

John and Emma used to play games after school, one of which was called "Scaredy-Cat", where one tries to outscare the other. Turns out that it went the way one expected it would go: it started out innocent enough, but then it grew worse.

How worse? He had a kitty once that he snuck into school in his backpack. Once, Emma...swapped a brick for the kitty, tossed it into the pool, and...to say that he didn't take it well would be an understatement. Yes, that pothole referenced to how he felt.

But hey, at least the kitty was fine! Right? Well...it's not a happy ending as John gave Emma a dark look as if to say, "never turn your back, because one day, I'm going to get you back for this". He didn't want to give up, but he screamed at her, "you sick bitch".

Um...yeah, uh...those actions were uncalled for. For that matter, where the hell were the parents and teachers when this happened? And when John killed his parents, was that retribution, trying to scare Emma despite her moving before it happened? We don't know.

What we do know is that the latest actions feel personal to Emma, and she wonders why she's being singled out. Um, Emma? You do realize that they are trying to break Danny, too, and there are three more people ripe for the breaking? Of course, Charlie says that it could be part of the game, with The Company screwing around with them.

Damn, The Company's pretty much one of the most vicious trolling companies ever.

Emma wonders how they would know all that, but Charlie doesn't know. Maybe research. And so they head to bed, with Emma trying to keep Charlie warm.

The next day. Okay, is Danny seriously peeking at Emma taking a shower, or is he looking at a window? I really hope it's the latter, because the former is really damn creepy. And what is he doing with a rope? By the way, this will be relevant later.

Cut to outside, and Matt finds a new package. He gives it to the group, and what do they find? A bottle of champagne. Aww. The Company still loves them, so Charlie thinks—wait, wait. There's a gun. With bullets inside.

Yeah, if they think that Matt uses blasters, then, like me, they're thinking in the wrong canon. Maybe in some other universe, he would, but not here.

Oh, and there are five bullets, one for each member of the group. Creepy. Rex tries to call the Company out, and he tells him that he knows what it means. Him (which will be revealed in about fifteen seconds) doing that to himself was actually the best thing that happened to Rex. And he flips the camera off, how classy.

If anyone can guess, I was right in the whole "three more people to break" thing, and they're after Rex now. And if I can guess, his real dad had...issues, and he killed himself. Of course, Rex is happy that he's dead, but what of his stepfather? Unless if his stepdad killed himself—I'm reading too much into this.

The group looks at him oddly, and Matt decides to put the gun out of harm's way. He and Rex head upstairs, with the latter wondering if the Company's fucking with him now. Charlie, semi-confirming my thoughts, thinks that the gun and bullets mean Rex's dad.

Cut to Rex's room, and ew. The guy's messing with a bullet in his mouth. Ugh, thanks for sharing. Matt enters, and the two talk. Though I'd like to think that, by looking at Rex, the one thing on Matt's mind would be "dude, what the fuck are you doing?"

But, sadly, that never happens. Rex takes the bullet out of his mouth and thinks that Matt's only here to check up on him. Dude, be glad that he's concerned! Of course, Rex doesn't give a shit, because he brought his own coping mechanism. Which is...gum, I think.

Matt hands Rex a book, and the latter tells the former that if wants to worry about someone, worry about Bundy. As in, Ted Bundy. I'm not going to say his claim to infamy, but the inquiring minds might want to look it up on Wikipedia if they so wish. Rex doesn't know whether to feel sorry for him or fear him.

Dude, isn't it obvious to fear him? It's like I walked up and said, "hey, you might want to worry about Gertrude Baniszewski, I don't know if I should fear or feel sorry for her!" It makes you come off as an uncaring ass with Complete Monster tendencies.

(For the record, I do know how to feel about Baniszewski. As someone who watched the Deadly Women segment about her? I'd fear her.)

Rex asks Matt why The Company chose him. The guy, furthering the list of reasons why I like him, asks Rex if he wants to spill it now, give them ammo to shoot him with. In other words, he wisely decides not to tell.

Good decision!

Rex then goes on by saying that The Company has the ammo already, but the question is, does Matt himself have his own personal demons, or is he "sliced white bread"? (I guess it means "perfect".) Yeesh.

Outside, Emma checks to see if there's anyone outside. Nothing. Matt joins her, asking her if she's okay, and she tells him that the security lights just turned on. So who knows? Matt thinks that she's just freaked out, and yes, Charlie told everyone what happened.

...then Matt asks Emma if all of this is related to when she was a kid. The answer: it would be a ridiculous coincidence. Matt leaves, and Emma writes in her journal a bit.

The next day. Emma wakes up with—OH HOLY SHIT HOW DID A BLOODY HAMMER GET HERE?! And yes, Emma responds in the exact way you'd expect. The group gathers into her room, shocked to see what's in there.

Charlie asks Rex if he placed it into the room, but he tells her to fuck off. Dude, that is not helping your case. Matt didn't put it there, and neither did Danny. Rex tries to calm the group down and tells Emma again that it's the Company being their sadistic selves, even if they have to raise the stakes.

Emma, understandably, prepares to leave and radio them, but greedy jerkass Rex tries to stop her. And how does he do this? By saying that he was the one who placed the hammer on the bed.

Way to go, idiot. You broke Emma's trust by creating a reason for her to never believe you again. And you wonder why the other members don't trust you when you say that the Company is raising the stakes!

Danny runs over and tries to give Rex a piece of his mind. But then Matt, our Standardized Leader, breaks up the fight, telling Danny that it's not worth it.

You know, I'm glad that Matt broke up the fight. Because if anyone deserves to beat Rex within an inch of his life, it should be him.

Cut to Rex doing his assholish monologue. How, yes, he's here for the money. And because either The Company or we, the viewers (or both!), have nothing to do, he pities us. Ugh.

Charlie enters, telling him that what he did was really screwed up. Why did he admit to it? Even though he didn't put it there, he only said it so Emma wouldn't leave, because he wants the million dollars.

Come to think of it, why does he need it? Does he want to blow it off on stupid shit?

Charlie and Rex eventually make amends, but it doesn't last. As he gives her a cigarette, she finds a stash of them. Charlie calls Rex a hoarding little bastard, and she calls for the group.

Like I said, guy can't be trusted.

In the kitchen, they talk about the not-so-secret stash. Matt wonders why Rex took the cigarettes, and Charlie answers that Rex is being a snake. To the point where he would sell his own grandma for cash.

Hey, I believe it. Though he'll likely also pull a Jonny Fairplay and make sob stories about his dead grandma in order to win.

Danny asks if it's true that his grandfather's alive, and the letter's part of the twisted game. Oh, and Rex doesn't get to eat as punishment. He goes on about how self-righteous Emma is and—GAH SHUT UP!

Matt tells Rex to knock it off, but the latter tells the former to, essentially, go fuck himself. Punch him in the face, Matt, kick his ass!

Then the Jerkass says stuff about, if he's a psycho-killer, he'll set his sights on the house. He goes outside and calls for the psycho, and he doesn't even shut the hell up when the group calls for him to come inside!

But then! Someone's here! The group shuts off the lights, and someone arrives: Travis Patterson, played by Bradley Cooper, he of Alias, Wedding Crashers, and The Hangover fame.

Why is Travis here? Well, after identifying himself, he claims that if he stood outside for a few more hours, he would have been dead. So going inside to warm up, understandable. Lost miles from...wherever he was.

Oh, wait. Somehow, he knows where the group is located, but they don't, thanks to his GPS. And he doesn't know who they are, despite being an Internet programmer. Yes, feel free to raise some red flags about him.

Matt explains that they're part of a reality webcast, a human aquarium, if you will. Cameras are set literally everywhere. And they aren't told what the site's name is. Some advertising scheme.

Travis asks the group as to what their hook is, and Rex answers that, for starters, Charlie takes her clothes off. She dislikes hearing that, and she introduces herself to Travis.

Cut to the living room, where the group finds out that they're in the middle of nowhere. They try to figure out what Travis is really like, but it's in the middle of a party thing with alcohol, drugs, dances, and rock 'n' roll.

Emma wonders if the skier thing's true, but Matt responds by saying that he might be paranoid, but it does seem to be too convenient. Plus, Emma goes on to say that Travis treats the cameras as if they're an Unusually Uninteresting Sight to him, in comparison to the group, where they were freaked out when they first saw them. Matt ends the conversation by saying that he's hoping Charlie knows what she's getting herself into.

...and Danny, completely stoned off his ass, asks Emma if she wants to dance. She refuses and goes to bed. Hilariously, Danny asks Rex if he wants to dance. Instead, the two men watch Travis and Charlie kiss each other and leave.

Rex mentions how he hates Travis, and Danny, after stating that the guy's a freak, shouts out, "Mr. Skier!" Which is, again, actually pretty funny. And...bam! To the tune of Peaches' "Fuck the Pain Away", Charlie and Travis have sex! Interspersed with scenes of Matt heading to Emma's room, Emma herself doing the laundry and sitting around, and Rex and Danny laying around and presumably screwing around with the stereo!

...well, that was pointless.

After the screwing session, Travis leaves the room and looks at the camera. This installment ends with him saying, "I told you I could fuck her." Stay classy, Travis.

Well, two parts down! What was Travis really doing here? How much worse can the show get in terms of sadistic twists? And will Rex become less of a jerkass?

Emergency Signal! Find out next time on the liveblogging of My Little Eye!
