** Anna Brewster as Madame de Montespan nails the scheming, sultry, spoiled and emotional aspects of the character, and she is beautiful, however the historical Anthenais was famously blonde haired and blue eyed.
** Elisa Lasowkski is a compelling Queen Marie-Therese, however, again, she doesn't fit the description of the plain, Habsburg-jawed blonde, blue eyed queen.

[[spoiler: Too bad she also gets killed in Season 2.]]
** Liselotte, the Princess Palatine, is much loved for her Adorkable FishOutOfWater shyness, a sense of humour that isn’t based around insulting everyone within earshot, and for being genuinely [[NiceGirl nice]]. And despite being a straight woman who knows she’s married a gay man, she somehow manages to be a better friend and lover to Philippe than the Chevalier is – although, considering who the [[JerkAss Chevalier]] is, that’s not difficult.
* OneTrueThreesome: At the end of the series, Liselotte walks in on a tender moment between Philippe and Chevalier, and happily says she knows her place in their relationship, married to the two men she loves.

* TearJerker: when Colbert is on his death bed in the Series finale, Louvois states with tears in his eyes that had circumstances been different they would have been friends.

* TheWoobie: Philipe. He is constantly trying to achieve success by his own merits or finding happiness in his relationships, he finds himself frustrated by his own brother. Every few episodes he would broke down crying for one reason of another. In episode 7 of the first season, he is constantly worried by his brother's health, has no support as a potential regent (all part of Louis' plan) and [[spoiler: his lover is arrested as a traitor and sentenced to death.]], his final scene is him crying tears of despair, all alone in the Royal Chapel.

** Jacques the Gardener, for being quite wise and rational in his advice to the king, having few enough appearances to not be overused, a [[BadassBaritone pleasing, soothing voice]] courtesy of Gilly Gilchrist, and an InexplicablyAwesome BladeBelowTheShoulder concealed in his prosthetic arm for no apparent reason. [[spoiler: Too bad he gets killed early in Season 2.]]
