* EnsembleDarkhorse: The people who like this movie tend to like the Duke's hilariously psychotic nephew, Hunch. Let's be honest, though, did you really care about how this boy who got turned into a kitten was going to find this big rooster so he can bring up the sun again, or did you wonder why the nutty little owl is so desparate for his [[EvilUncle uncle's]] affection? Also the [[EvilIsCool Duke]].
** Snipes, although being [[DextersLaboratory Eddie Deezen]] helps a lot.

** The fact that the Duke can be driven away by ''a flashlight'' makes him even less threatening.

** The big chase scene [[UnderStatement isn't nearly as dramatic as it could be]].

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The Don Bluth staple. Especially weird is where Edmund apparently runs into '''his own BRAIN?!''' after Peepers' DisneyDeath, to resolve a character flaw that was ''barely brought up through much of the movie.''

* CultClassic: Despite its flaws, its a decent children's film that tries to tell a an interesting story.

* ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs: [[GeoffreyChaucer Chaucer]] on Acid?!

* TheWoobie: Edmund is is supposed to be one, but it didn't work. However, some viewers feel sorry for Hunch, the Grand Duke's much-abused nephew.

** I thought he was cute, and no more annoying than most kids his age.

* SuperlativeDubbing: The Norwegian dub of the movie struck gold when casting the guys from the band Vazelina Bilopphøggers (well-known in Norway for their comedic re-interpretations of old rockabilly songs, sung on their characteristic dialect) in most of the central roles, with lead singer Viggo Sandvik as Chanticleer. Vazelina did not merely dub the vocal parts of the songs, they ''re-recorded and performed all the music themselves.'' While the movie ''Rock-a-Doodle'' got mixed reviews and was a general flop, pretty much everyone praised the dubbing and Vazelina's re-recording of the songs (their version of ''Sun Do Shine'' even became a minor hit).
** The French version is better than the original version too. The Duke is more charismatic, the French singer Eddy Mitchell as Chantecler done a better work than Glen Campbell and Edmond's voice isn't annoying.

* AdaptationDisplacement: This movie is ''very'' loosely based on a little-known play called ''Chanticler'' written by Edmond Rostand, in which a rooster named Chanticler is the protagonist, the Goldie character is a non-anthropomorphic pheasant, and one of the villains is an owl called the Grand Duke (although he has a much smaller role than he does in the movie).

*** Isn't it more "GIANT TWEE! A HUNDWED FEET AHEAD AVUSS!"

* NightmareFuel : Let's see, the flood, the evil owl and his [[OminousPipeOrgan pipe-organ,]] the [[DerangedAnimation certainly drug-inspired sequence]] where the kid turns into a cat after the Grand Duke pukes his dark magic everywhere, another sequence where the kid/cat imagines the other characters berating his not being brave enough, Goldie the [[KidsInTheHall chicken-lady]], the Grand Duke's OneWingedAngel act (also very hallucinogenic, also involving evil magic vomit), and the ''ever-rising, mother-loving flood.''

** What about the fact that it's only a couple of flashlights and draining batteries between the farm animals and being eaten? Or, near the end, when the flashlights ''do'' go out and the animals very nearly are eaten.
