* [[CompositeCharacter Composite Gimmick:]] Since his latest move to Smackdown, Orton seems to be attempting to keep shreds of his Viper persona while also reviving some of the animation and personality he had during his first face run on Smackdown (i.e. during his feud with Evolution).

Love It Or Hate It is now In-Universe only.

* LoveItOrHateIt: Not as bad as TripleH or JohnCena, but Orton's detractors can be just as loud as those two at times. It mostly shows up whenever he plays a {{Face}}, usually because there's little to no difference between his {{Heel}} and {{Face}} persona's and it grates some people the wrong way.
** I think you'll find that it has far more to do with his bland, lethargic ringwork and laughably bad promos than anything else.

Your...*yawn*...banal Natter...*snore*...proves a whole lotta nothing, little girl.

** That seems more a case of not being a belivable face, and preferred as a heel, [[HateDom than wrestling/promo ability.]] Example: In an early 2007 match against Edge, despite both being in full-blown heels at the time, ''Orton'' was cheered. He can cut a good promo, just not in robot Viper mode, apparently.

** HateDumb: While a lot of backlash was probably expected, some of the reactions have actually gotten pretty scary. [[DudeNotFunny No, it's not okay to send Randy death threats over twitter because you're pissed at him getting the title.]]
*** Randall hasn't exactly responded to any of them in a professional manner, though: apparently "''Jealousy''" & "''Ignorance''" are the only reason that anybody could have a problem with this situation.
*** Well, you try keeping a "professional tone" after people send death threats to you.
*** Because you should really get bothered by groundless death threats right? Sinking to their level doesn't make them as bad as they are, it actually makes him even worse.
*** Anyone who's life is being threatened over an unpopular outcome as the result of a ''completely staged television program'' has every right to post a defensive statement over an unofficial medium, regardless if some people think that makes a bad person.

* ChaoticNeutral: Probably the best example in Wrestling since Stone Cold Steve Austin.
* CompleteMonster: Randy Orton as a heel falls straight into this. Trying to list all of his heinous actions would take all day, but for starters:
** Kissing a knocked-out Stephanie [=McMahon=] just before ''[=WrestleMania=] 25''. After DDT'ing her form the second rope. And doing so while her husband was handcuffed to the top rope and forced to watch without being able to do anything about it.
** He's punted a number of legends, including MickFoley, Dusty Rhodes, and ShawnMichaels.
** He RKO'd on-screen girlfriend Stacy Keibler to prove to The Undertaker that he was unafraid of the Deadman in the buildup to their ''[=WrestleMania=] 21'' match (Stacy questioned Orton's ability to beat the Deadman, which led to the RKO).
** In an Iron Man match with John Cena, Orton knocked Cena down on the ramp, before rushing over to the technical area ''and trying to outright kill Cena with pyrotechnics''.
*** [[BryanDanielson At least he didn't choke him with a tie]].
** Even as a "face", he just won't stop kicking people in the head.
* [[TheStoic While he may not seem like it now,]] Orton was the butt of many a joke, especially during his fued (along with Edge) with [=DX=].
**Also from around that time, his [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-f2psyj0CY appearance]] with {{Edge}} on DealOrNoDeal as hecklers.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyYGHVrwA9U Hey! Nothing you can say!]] Shame that Orton himself supposedly hated this theme.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQWwO0vGu44 "Voices"]] is ''fantastic'', and it fits Randy Orton's mentally unhinged character very, ''very'' well.
*** This troper personally thinks the use of "Voices" as Orton's theme has lead to a CMOA for the song, when in a recap video of a promo with Edge where Orton remained silent the entire time, every time Edge had finished speaking, the camera cut to Orton and played the opening line of the song.
*** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVRUf4QTIRY Seen here.]]
* DracoInLeatherPants: Despite being more-or-less a perpetual heel, he has a ''very'' strong following, on both [[EstrogenBrigadeBait sides]] of the [[EvenTheGuysWantHim spectrum.]]
* EvilIsCool: If it's true that the winners write the history books, then it's a wonder Orton's pen hasn't run dry.
** WWE seems to be aware of this too - His face turn in 2009 has consisted simply of Orton attacking heels instead of faces, and playing to the crowd slightly more than when he was heel.
* EvilIsSexy
* MagnificentBastard: How he ended up the face in the Legacy break-up. Sure, he was a CompleteMonster but he's just so good at doing it compared to Ted and Cody that the crowd decided he was the face.
* MemeticMutation: "RELEASE THE DOVES!" ''*[[FanNickname Orton pose]]*''
** Hoes, Pose, and [=RKOs=].
** "STUPID! STUPID!"
** "I just kicked your brother where his appendix used to be! And that's not the only place, that I'm gonna kick him!"
** \_0__/
** He'd RKO his own grandmother to be WWE Champion.
* NightmareRetardant: Mostly his Twitter. He's supposed to be TheStoic, a CompleteMonster, and all that gets blown to pieces when you hear him do some of the typical "lmao"-type tweeting. [[http://twitter.com/RandyOrton/status/25648168557 When he actually used the word "Yippee,"]] it made it a little harder to take his "Viper" character seriously.
* WhatAnIdiot: The man has hypermobile shoulders, his pre-finishing ritual consists of punching the ground, and his finishing move consists of landing on his shoulders...good job there Randy.
** If we're going that route, pull the perspective back and mention his entire career choice. Professional wrestlers lie somewhere between Hollywood Stuntmen and Crash Test Dummies on the injury scale. For anyone with a predisposition to injury, it's not the best idea.
** And then in 2010, Orton re-aggravates an injury while doing his pounding the mat routine, during a match on PPV no less.
