Not a YMMV trope.

* KarmaHoudini: Debatable with Dan White. He received a very light sentence for what was obviously first degree murder. But he did commit suicide just two years after being released from prison
** Averted with Anita Bryant. The LGBTQ+ community and progressives rallied against her so much that she lost all of her endorsements and became a national joke. Shortly after Prop 6 failed she divorced her husband which caused other MoralGuardians to shun her. She later filed for bankruptcy twice and quietly slipped out of public life. Finally in 2021 her Granddaughter [[https://www.them.us/story/anita-bryant-lesbian-granddaughter came out as gay]] and married a woman.

Doesn't say whether or not this is an interpretation shared by a sizable/noticeable camp of fans.

* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Jack. He's sweet-natured but unbalanced, showing some signs of attachment and abandonment issues and possibly PTSD as a result of his father beating him upon Jack's coming out as gay.

* CriticalResearchFailure: The epilogue repeats the UrbanLegend that Dan White received a mild sentence for shooting Moscone and Milk, because his lawyers argued that he had been mentally impaired due to excessive consumption of Twinkies and other junk foods (the origin of the phrase "Twinkie defence"). [[http://www.snopes.com/legal/twinkie.asp The real argument was that White was suffering from mental problems at the time of the murders, and that one of the signs of this was an increased consumption of junk food.]]

Sinkholing is not good.
