* FanNickname: Because of RecycledTitle use early in the franchise, the first three TV series have earned fan nicknames based on the colour of Lupin's jacket.
** Anime/LupinIIIPart1 is the 1971 series, which is nicknamed "Green Jacket".
** Anime/LupinIIIPartII is the 1977 series, which is nicknamed "Red Jacket".
** Anime/LupinIIIPartIII is the 1984 series (and ''Anime/LegendOfTheGoldOfBabylon'' is included), which is nicknamed "Pink Jacket".
** ''Anime/LupinIIITheItalianAdventure'' was quickly name "Blue Jacket" before the title was even announced. The nickname though ultimately faded from use when later installments kept the blue jacket instead of replacing it.

* MST3KMantra:
** Having been in the hands of so many directors and writers throughout its fifty-plus year history, any real continuity between the films, TV episodes, and TV specials is pretty much nil, other than the most basic aspects of the characters and plot.
** Even the original manga has this issue; Monkey Punch was known to set up stories in one chapter, only to abandon them completely by the next one, with not even a reference in the new story to what had happened before. Hell, his original plan was to have "Fujiko Mine"[[note]] (loose translation: "Twin Peaks")[[/note]] be the name of ''every woman in the series''. This resulted in Fujiko having no fewer than four origin stories within the first few volumes. Monkey Punch eventually got just as confused as everyone else and decided to just make Fujiko a single character, albeit still one with a MultipleChoicePast.

** Most people are also far more familiar with the LighterAndSofter anime adaptation known as Anime/LupinIIIRedJacket (Or ''Lupin III, Part II'') than the original DarkerAndEdgier manga. ''Anime/LupinIIITheWomanCalledFujikoMine'' (which was closer in tone to the manga) was somewhat controversial largely because many people weren't expecting that level of violence or sexual content in a ''Lupin'' cartoon.

It got to the point that the new 2015 Lupin the 3rd cartoon series not only will take place in Italy and San Marino, but will also first premiere there as well!

There's a spanish dub of Green Jacket too! It aired around Latin America and was made by Mediaset. The Lupin Wiki about Lupin III Part 1 mentions that it also had dubs in Spain, France, and Brazil.

A thief who savors the rush and thrill of the theft far more than any monetary value, Lupin also delights in paying karmic justice to deserving victims. Often cloaking himself behind a facade of stupidity, Lupin is almost always capable of convincing his opponents he's a mere fool to disguise his true intellect, when not using a disguise outright. Throughout multiple anime incarnations, Lupin is characterized by choosing seemingly impossible ventures or being thrust into inescapable situations, only to execute a cunning plan--be they pre-arranged or adapted [[IndyPloy on the fly]]--and escape completely free, whether [[Anime/TheCastleOfCagliostro defeating a wicked count and stealing a Princess's heart]], [[Anime/TheSecretOfMamo outwitting a giant brain beyond human capacity]], or even [[Anime/LupinIIITheFirst preventing a Nazi world-conquering scheme]]. Rarely ever losing his playful grin, and always ready with witty repartee, Lupin remains one of anime's most successful examples of a GentlemanThief who is constantly capable of twisting a situation to his advantage, whether it's for the good of others or the thrills he lives for.
** [[FemmeFatale Fujiko Mine]], Lupin's occasional lover, constant rival, and frequent ally, is his equal in brilliance and audaciousness. Never afraid to weaponize her sexuality yet also a capable fighter when put in a corner, Fujiko proves capable of ruthlessness and kindness alike. Fujiko always gets her way in the end, whether by [[Anime/TheCastleOfCagliostro stealing counterfeit plates under Lupin's nose]], [[Anime/LupinIIITheWomanCalledFujikoMine seducing a guard and subsituting him to evade her own execution]], [[Anime/LupinIIIPart5 using her own capture to force Lupin's true feelings for her out of him]], or [[Anime/LupinIIITheFirst making off with a boatload of Nazi gold]]. A thief who savors the rush and thrill of the theft far more than any monetary value, Lupin also delights in paying karmic justice to deserving victims. Throughout multiple anime incarnations, Lupin is characterized by choosing seemingly impossible ventures or being thrust into inescapable situations, only to execute a cunning plan (arranged in advance or [[IndyPloy on the fly]]) and escaping completely free, in one instance even outsmarting an ancient brain supposedly beyond any human being's. Rarely ever losing his playful grin, and always ready with witty repartee, Lupin remains one of anime's most successful examples of a GentlemanThief who is constantly capable of twisting a situation to his advantage.
** Lupin's occasional lover, constant rival and ally, Fujiko Mine, is his equal in brilliance and audaciousness. A skilled thief who lives for the rush of the theft, Fujiko is able to perform as many complex schemes as Lupin while constantly outwitting him and everyone around her to get her next big score. In one instance in ''[[Anime/LupinIIITheWomanCalledFujikoMine The Woman Called Fujiko Mine]]'', she poses as a tutor at an all girls' school, allows one girl to seduce her, only to reveal she knew the girl was a cop in disguise, and let it happen just to fool him and steal the codes she needed. Equally capable of ruthlessness, Fujiko once escaped prison by seducing a guard and sending him to execution in her place, never hesitating to weaponize her sexuality. At the end, Fujiko allows nobody but her to define herself and stops at nothing to achieve her goals, no matter who she has to manipulate or fool, while always maintaining the same charismatic style as Lupin himself.

* DieForOurShip: The franchise fandom is small enough -- and the EstrogenBrigade portion of it especially so -- that people don't actively flame one another, for the most part. The Lupin/Jigen, Jigen/Goemon, Lupin/Goemon and Lupin/Zenigata shippers can often hold quite civil and mature conversations with one another. What they ''will not'' tolerate is Lupin/Fujiko. Or ''Anyone''/Fujiko, for that matter. Granted, she's devious as a cat and twice as manipulative, but you'd be hard pressed to find any named character on the show who ''isn't''. The Lupin fangirls hate her because she's "mean" to their cute little thief (who harasses every attractive woman he meets, including her); the Goemon fangirls don't care for her 'cause she seduced then dumped their man in the first season (the only really justified complaint on this list); the Jigen fangirls agree with their adorably scruffy gunman, that she's "trouble" (again, [[WeirdnessMagnet take a look at the]] [[CartwrightCurse others' track records]]); and the Zenigata fangirls (yep, they exist) just think she's a [[RealWomenDontWearDresses vapid bimbo]] ([[ActionGirl who is capable of building an explosive device powerful enough to destroy a solid oak door]] [[TheSmartGuy but small enough to fit inside a high heel).]] This isn't even taking into account the number of times she's saved her male compatriots' necks by charming her way into serving as TheMole when needed. Or the number of times she's [[IWasJustPassingThrough freaked out at the thought of Lupin being in peril]].

* DieForOurShip: The For the above-stated reason, Fujiko's gotten hit with this more often compared to her cohorts, though with her more proactive role later in the franchise fandom is small enough -- and the EstrogenBrigade portion of it especially so -- that people don't actively flame one another, rise in popularity for morally ambiguous female characters, the most part. The Lupin/Jigen, Jigen/Goemon, Lupin/Goemon and Lupin/Zenigata shippers can often hold quite civil and mature conversations fandom's warmed up to her considerably, though het pairings with one another. ** Kind of justified. In ''Anime/FarewellToNostradamus'', Lupin says he's aware Fujiko will betray him at anytime and even says "betrayal is a woman's accessory" yet he looks ''forward'' to Fujiko betraying him.

* DamselScrappy: Fujiko, Fujiko, Fujiko... When it's not stealing a cursed ruby, it's getting locked in a prison full of DNA-seeking homing missiles, and when it's not that, it's realizing only just a bit too late that working for the evil psychic dwarf with a god complex was ''maybe'' not such a good idea, and when it's not that, it's being kidnapped by a mad scientist, or put into a coma by a castle full of lesbians, and when it's not that... you get the idea. She gets enough moments of competence (and clearly the love between her and Lupin is genuine enough, if plagued by mutual CommitmentIssues) to avoid this trope... but it's not hard to see why some might disagree.

* RonTheDeathEater: Fujiko gets hit with this a bit in the fandom (even on this very wiki). Yes, she's the least reliable member of the gang, and even works against them on a semi-regularly basis, but to listen to some of the fans, it's unusual to have a job go by without her betraying them, and she'd sell them all out in a heartbeat, both of which are patently false. She works with the gang about as often as she doesn't (which even then doesn't always mean working against them), and her plots against the gang are usually con jobs which put them at most at no more risk than getting arrested, which is basically an annoyance to them, unless something goes wrong, and when the chips are down and the gang ([[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther especially Lupin]]) is ''actually'' in mortal danger, she'll step in to help (heck, a few times she betrayed the gang ''because'' she wanted them out of danger). Really, her bigger failing is probably her overconfidence: while she actively works against the gang relatively rarely (and seems to actively go out of her way to not endanger them when she does so), she's the most likely member to operate independently, and has dragged the gang into more than her fair share of sticky situations when [[DamselInDistress she gets in over head and needs bailing out]]. Of course, exactly how unscrupulous she is and how varies heavily DependingOnTheWriter.
