** Mitsuzane's attempts to protect his friends bring to mind several interpretations:
*** In telling Kouta to abandon his Driver, is he really looking out for him and finding a way to boycott Yggdrasil or is he just manipulating him into doing so to save his own skin? Is what he said to Kouta about no longer keeping secrets or worrying Mai something he's telling Kouta or himself? This can be applied earlier on, when he warns Kouta against going public with the story about Yggdrasil. Is he seriously concerned for the safety of his friends or is he trying to make sure Takatora doesn't find out about his double life?
*** To further illustrate this, a later episode has Mitsuzane sneaking in Yggdrasil and getting data from them, then claims to his brother that he plans to use it against Yggdrasil, though his brother believes he's just doing it to challenge him.
*** Later events of Mitsuzane's [[spoiler:fall to the dark side]] make audiences wonder if [[spoiler:he was EvilAllAlong or was warped into being evil through a combination of desiring power, knowing the AwfulTruth of the Helheim Forest, and wanting a piece of Takatora's ControlFreak habit]]. His actions and reactions throughout the series can suggest either route.
*** Considering Mitsuzane's [[spoiler:descent began with knowing the AwfulTruth]] followed by being put in a situation where he must [[spoiler:choose between what he thinks is right and those he cares for]], there's room to interpret Mitsuzane as [[spoiler:being DrivenToMadness by a combination of said AwfulTruth and the stress he's put through.]]
*** With the release of the [[DayInTheLimelight Zangetsu Gaiden]] movie, people have been quick to point out that it may not have just been Takatora's influence that [[spoiler:caused Micchy to turn evil, but also ''their father's'']].
** Was Hase's descent into madness a result of PTSD brought on by the stresses of being BroughtDownToNormal, having his friend backstab him, and essentially losing everything that he loved or is it a result of his Sengoku Driver being broken and him going into a biologically induced shock? One interpretation is that there were [[http://kamentexters.tumblr.com/post/109133417563/revieloutionne-replied-to-your-post-massive-gaim multiple factors]].
** Sigurd telling Kouta about how hunting down monsters is part of being a Rider split the fanbase (see below). One question remains: was he actually serious and considered the job akin to ShootTheDog? Or was he just trying to break Kouta's spirits by telling him that hunting down [[spoiler:humans who have turned into]] monsters is all a Rider is good for? Or perhaps he's just trolling ForTheEvulz? Considering Sigurd is [[spoiler:Sid]], chances are that the "actually serious" explanation isn't that likely.
** Also, how much does Kaito really buy into his own SocialDarwinist philosophy? He talks a good talk, but his actions tend to be suspiciously altruistic whenever things get serious. It doesn't help that he's similar to [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Kyoko Sakura]], another Urobuchi-written character with a selfish philosophy that she doesn't actually seem to follow.
*** [[spoiler:Is Kaito becoming a villainous Overlord simply because of his drive for more power with the Overlords gone or was it a move of despair and rage from Ryoma killing Mai and causing Kouta's death via Mitsuzane? Consider that he didn't do this until after he learns that Kouta too is dead, angering him so much he takes the chance to becoming an Overlord. The answer is that his intentions were indeed altruistic, that the world he wanted to make was one where the weak were never suppressed, above all else. Kouta himself notes that they both want the same thing, but the problem was Kaito went about it the way of the cynic that he was, amassing power and forcibly remaking the world to achieve such ends]].
** Two scenes at the end of Rosyuo's [[spoiler:last battle]] shows different interpretations.

*** When [[spoiler:Rosyuo's wife shows up, is it a ghost or did Redyue's machine actually worked?]]
** Sagara in the penultimate episode brings up an interpretation. [[spoiler:When Kouta decides what to do with Helheim Forest, Sagara expresses concern for him and Mai. [[VillainousBreakdown Concern over the fact that they're screwing him over]] or the fact that they're rejecting Earth to go to somewhere barren? [[/index]]

* HilariousInHindsight:
** During its run, ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' had concepts and characters that were often compared to ''Series/KamenRiderRyuki'' and vice versa with ''Series/KamenRiderWizard''. Creator/GenUrobuchi is writing this series. Perhaps Toei approved...
*** In addition, Gen was famous for writing a show that only ''looks'' like a children's show, and now he's writing an actual children's show.
** The original Franchise/KamenRider is usually called Kamen Rider Ichigo, so that people can differentiate him from Kamen Rider Nigo. Here, a powerup called "Strawberry Arms" exist. Strawberry in Japanese is 'ichigo'[[note]]though with a short 'o' instead of a long one[[/note]].
*** Maybe we'll have another one if Gaim in Strawberry Arms vs Zangetsu, making Manga/{{Bleach}} fans love this possibility.
*** Then it got more hilarious considering that Gaim got ''the'' Kamen Rider Ichigou's lockseed in the ''Showa vs. Heisei'' movie.
** The last Second Rider to not have a debut in a movie was also named [[Series/KamenRiderDecade Kaito]].
** For that matter, Morning Rescue, an orange juice, was associated with Madoka due to the ad airing alongside the series. Now, Urobuchi IS doing an orange-themed Rider...
** At the same time that this show was airing, the season premiere of a [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic well-known show]] had the plot of its own [[EldritchLocation forest]] invading the normal world. Soon after that, Helheim starts its own invasion.
** It just so happens that, while Kamen Rider has the lock in 2013, [[Series/PowerRangersMegaforce Power Rangers has the key]].
** Fans are wondering what will happen if Zangetsu (a melon rider) meet a [[Manga/ZatchBell melon-loving Mamodo]] that even has a song and dance for his favourite fruit.
** [[http://beautifuldecay.com/2014/03/07/jun-kitagawas-giant-zippers-open-large-public-spaces/ This]] has apparently been going on for a few years now.
*** Speaking of giant zippers, [[Series/KamenRiderDenO the last time]] Sid's actor was in a Kamen Rider show, he was a victim of the week... and during the second part of his two-parter, the Denliner travels back in time... and one piece of graffiti present was a giant zipper as well.
** Before the show debuted, [[WordOfGod we heard that Zangetsu would be playing a similar role to]] [[Series/KamenRiderRyuki Ouja]]. [[spoiler:Well, now we see that Takatora, the primary Zangetsu user, is a nice guy while his brother, using Zangetsu's identity, is out to murder Kouta.]]
** Hase may have gotten the connections to Tomoe Mami, but there's one thing [[spoiler:his killer took from him. All the jokes made related to a CruelAndUnusualDeath]].
** In #11, Sid has a brief monologue about how kids just want power and how no adult would ever dive into that danger. [[spoiler:Twenty episodes later and he's diving into said danger... and paying the ultimate price]].
** With all the talk of ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' elements sneaking into ''Gaim'', it should come as no surprise that [[spoiler:Madoka]]'s eventual fate actually becomes a plot point. But not for Kota as expected. [[spoiler:It's Mai. Though still played straight when Kouta wins the Forbidden Fruit and ascends to godhood, albeit as a PhysicalGod, complete with his taking a third option in defiance of the Kyubey expy's expectations. The other difference, though, is that Sagara, after getting over his disbelief and disappointment, shows his support and accepts his defeat.]]
** People have compared the basic plot of Game of Thrones to Kamen Rider Gaim, and now they can have a chuckle knowing that both share the following trait: one of the most gruesome deaths in the show involves someone getting crushed by a mountain.
** It's common practice for fans to make expanded arsenal for a Rider, with here being Lockseeds going past #13 (Kiwi, the last of the canonical numbered regular Lockseeds). [[spoiler:In the Kamen Rider Duke Gaiden movie, Duke uses a regular Lemon Lockseed, which has a Lockseed number of ''99''! That means there are ''at least'' 100 variations of Lockseeds, and those are just the normal ones!]]
** Despite being a rider, Takatora never used a Rider Kick in the series, despite officially having one. [[Series/UchuSentaiKyuranger The next time he would play an older brother]], he used a rider kick.
** Creator/HochuOtsuka, the narrator of this series, voiced a character in the [[HumongousMecha mecha]] anime ''[[Anime/HeavyMetalLGaim Heavy Metal L-Gaim]]''.
** The comparisons to the UsefulNotes/SengokuPeriod become this when [[Series/KamenRiderDrive the next series]] casts someone who's descended from UsefulNotes/AkechiMitsuhide, one of the more (in)famous warlords from said period.
** The fact that Kaito's actor [[WhatCouldHaveBeen auditioned for]] [[Series/KaizokuSentaiGokaiger Captain Marvelous]] becomes this when an actor who played Kamen Rider ''Proto'' Baron ends up playing [[Series/KikaiSentaiZenkaiger Zocks]], the Gokaiger-themed Twokaizer.

** While it does look odd to a Western Audience, Kiwami Arms (specifically the helmet) is based off of Oba Nobunaga's armor. While he's been portrayed as both good and evil in culture, Nobunaga is considered a powerful warlord and one of Japan's greatest rulers, so with that in mind, basing Gaim, a Samurai's, ultimate form off his armor makes sense when Nobunaga's cultural significance is taken into account (something western audiences may be less aware of).

* WhatAnIdiot:
** Takatora Kureshima. You work with a trio of ObviouslyEvil individuals and are actually shocked when they betray you. Potentially mitigating (or amplifying) this sentiment is that he has seemingly worked with these people for years prior to the show's start. Slightly justified in that it was Ryou]ma who hired Sid and Yoko, and Takatora was friends with Ryoma.
** His brother isn't much better. [[spoiler:Sure, Micchy, leave an unconscious Mai who has the Forbidden Fruit inside her alone with Ryoma. I'm sure the amoral MadScientist won't cut her open to get the Fruit or anything... oh. By this point, Micchy has been driven to insanity by desperation, so he has a slight excuse for this massive lapse in judgement.]]

**The Sengoku Driver has a grand total of 4 tracks... and that's only for the ''standby loops''.
***The drivers used by (Bujin) Gaim, Kamuro, Zangetsu, Kurokage and Mars/Jam play Japanese horagai music and announce "Soiya" before every transformation, particularly fitting the series Japanese samurai motif.
***The drivers used by Baron, Gridon, Duke, and Idunn play European trumpet music and announce "Come On" in perfect English. Given the amount of class featured by all but Gridon, this is rather fitting.
***The drivers used by Oren and Zack play American rock & roll music and emit a guitar riff sound before every transformation. Both are very flashy and bombastic and have become fan favorites very quickly, and this standby in particular fits very well with them.
***The fourth track variation is used ''exclusively'' by Mitsuzane, and plays Chinese erhu & gong music and announces "Hai" before every transformation. Given Micchy's status as the ''Gaim'' cast's black sheep, it's not ''too'' inappropriate.

** Another nickname relating to translations but not involving the subs this time, Takatora is sometimes called "Hawktiger" because his given name is a homophone for the Japanese words for those animals (though it actually translates as "Noble Tiger"). Of course, ''Kamen Rider'' fans would recognize those as two of the three animals which make up Series/KamenRiderOOO's Tatoba Combo, leading to the creation of a humorous picture of our Overseer with grasshopper legs to complete the trio. Doubles as AwesomeMcCoolname.

While it's certainly not hated, Gaim's reputation in Japan is significantly more mixed, being only the 12th most popular Kamen Rider series in NHK's poll. Detractors most frequently cite the goofiness of the fruits motif, and the much darker tone of the series as reasons for their distaste.
