* JerkassWoobie: Ken may have anger issues, but his girlfriend dumped him for a bee which he is allergic to. However, the fact that he tried to murder Barry, even when he showed politeness to Ken, [[DeconstructedTrope turns this around]].

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Ken's supposed to be an unlikable JerkJock, but it's a little hard not to sympathize with him for the fact that his girlfriend leaves him ''for a talking bee.'' A bee who, as noted above, actually poses a genuine threat to Ken's safety, given his severe allergy to bee stings. However, Barry never actually tries to attack him and Vanessa leaving Ken for him was of her own choosing rather than Barry manipulating her to leave Ken. That and trying to murder Barry when it’s proved he’s a sentient bee? Dick move, Ken.

* CommonKnowledge: A few complaints regarding the movie is a romance between a human and insect and how the boyfriend of the girl is right to despise him. However, Barry and Vanessa actually remain friends and Vanessa is only nice to Barry, not romantically attracted to him. So really, these complaints are entirely unfounded.

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: In one scene, police pin down someone; said person then says, “I can’t breathe!”. This is rather uncomfortable after the murder of George Floyd in 2020.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Ken, due to being played by Creator/PatrickWarburton and being [[UnintentionallySympathetic bizarrely sympathetic]].

* WatchItForTheMeme: The movie did poorly in theaters, but the huge amount of memes about it prompted a resurgence of popularity in TheNewTens.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The movie is in part about a romance between a male bee and a full-size human woman. Many critics highlighted this as an issue with the movie, and this likely contributed to its poor box office performance. On the other hand, it also lent itself to the eventual MemeticMutation of the entire film. One thing that hurt it for sure though is, not unlike other animated movies of the time, it could not settle on whether the target audience were mainly adults or children. The movie tries to simultaneously be sardonic and whimsical, resulting in an awkward tone that goes all over the place.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: As weird as it may sound, this movie could've had potential if they did some simple fact-checking about bees. Barry being a male bee who is [[CelibateHero uninterested in reproduction]] and wants to be useful in a different way by becoming part of the all female Pollinators is both an interesting source for conflict and also a good allegory for both genders that following societal expectations is optional. Simply inserting a KnightTemplar with the Queen Bee and leaving Vanessa, Ken and Barry becoming a lawyer out of the script would've arguably made for a better movie.

** Barry wins the case by asking if nature intended for Bees to be "[[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything honey slaves to the WHITE MAN?!?]]" Cue the one black lawyer on the opposition awkwardly scooting his chair away from the other lawyers and Montgomery, who are all white. Even more so when Montgomery angrily whispers "[[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything He's playing the species card!]]"

** Part of the montage after Barry's ban on bee-harvested honey is put into effect shows animal control ''tranquilizing Franchise/WinnieThePooh''.,
