* TheSeriesHasLeftReality: In the first ''WesternAnimation/TheJungleBook'' it seems like Mowgli just [[SpeaksFluentAnimal understands the animal languages]], but in ''WesternAnimation/TheJungleBook2'' it's revealed that animals can communicate with all humans.

* {{Retcon}}: An obscure foreign-language novelization rendered the village girl's name as [[HilariousInHindsight Jasmine]]. Obviously this wouldn't fly [[WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}} after 1992]], so the movie and subsequent merchandise and press material for the first film gave her a different name.

* HappilyAdopted: Similar to what he had while living in the jungle with the wolves in the original film, Mowgli finds himself in good graces in the Man Village, as he ends up being adopted by the village leader, who has a wife named Messua and a son named Ranjan.

After being charmed by the village girl Shanti (Creator/MaeWhitman) at the end of the last movie, Mowgli (Creator/HaleyJoelOsment) has since been accepted by the Man Village. Despite being adopted by a loving family, Mowgli still finds himself yearning for his old life in the jungle before he had to follow the rules of his new parents. Baloo (Creator/JohnGoodman) has also found himself missing Mowgli and decides to pay him a visit despite Bagheera's objections. When Shanti mistakes Baloo for a wild predator, he and Mowgli run off to resume their carefree life in the jungle. Worried about Mowgli's well-being, Shanti and Mowgli's adopted brother Ranjan try to find him before anything happens to him. Unbeknownst to Mowgli and his friends, Shere Khan has returned to the jungle, seeking revenge after his humiliating defeat at Mowgli's hands.

* BareYourMidriff: Shanti wears a white kofta that shows her belly. She also wears an ankle-length skirt that covers her belly button.

* NeverMyFault: When Shere Khan interrogates Kaa on Mowgli's whereabouts. He believes that Kaa knows where Mowgli is (after hearing the snake grumble "man-cub"). Though Kaa truthfully has no idea where Mowgli is, here Khan won't believe him and continues to threaten the python. So to save his skin, Kaa fearfully lies to the tiger that Mowgli's at the swamp, allowing him to flee. When Shere Khan arrives at the swamp with Mowgli nowhere to be found, he angrily growls "That snake ''lied'' to me!"

* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Bagheera's reaction when the log he and Colonel Haiti are on is about to break.

* LoinCloth: Mowgli and Ranjan's standard outfits.

* UglyGuyHotWife: How Ranjan's hirsute, obese and middle-aged dad ever ended up with his very attractive young wife is a mystery [[note]] Considering that they are in India, [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arranged_marriage_in_the_Indian_subcontinent arranged marriage]] is a likely answer.[[/note]]. Partly justified in that he's an InkSuitActor of his voice actor, John Rhys-Davies.

* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Shanti (an actual little girl) screams a very high pitched scream many times during the movie, both when Mowgli and Ranjan prank her, when she first sees Baloo with Mowgli and when bats start chasing her in the jungle. Kaa also does this when Ranjan scares him.

* TalkingAnimal: In the first movie it was possible that Mowgli just SpeaksFluentAnimal, but here the animals are shown to be able to talk to ''all'' humans.

* BiggerOnTheInside: The cave the elephants hide in is apparently able to fit Hathi's entire heard, as well as Bagheera, inside of it. Judging by the shot of Bagheera smushed between an elephant and the cave wall, it's a tight fit though.

* AdultFear: The adults in Mowgli’s village are terrified of their children wandering into the jungle. When Baloo takes Mowgli out of the village, his and Shanti’s parents worry about their children encountering dangerous predators that want to kill them.

* AnimalStampede: Colonel Hathi and his heard cause one while fleeing from humans in the jungle. [[TheChewToy Bagheera]] winds up getting caught in it as well.

* IWasNamedMyName: Human example. Mowgli is called that (or Man-Cub) throughout the first movie by all the animals. Here, we see that his adopted human family has also named him Mowgli. Then again, Mowgli can talk to them.

* CallBack: Part of the climax involves Shere Kahn imposing a countdown on Mowgli - only in the first movie, he was giving Mowgli time to hide, while in the second he's giving Mowgli time to reveal himself before he kills Shanti.

* AnimalTalk: Goes to ridiculous extremes when both Shanti and Ranjan, who unlike Mowgli have not grown up in the jungle, also automatically understand the animals with no explanation. Though Shanti, herself, is unsettled upon hearing Baloo speak when they meet for the first time. Perhaps [[TalkingAnimal the animals are just using human speech]].

* HypnotizeThePrincess: Shanti becomes Mowgli's replacement for Kaa to turn her brain into mush. She is rescued by Ranjan last-minute.

* DisneyVillainDeath: Subverted with Shere Khan, who falls into a lava pit hear the end of the movie but turns out to have landed in a safe area.
