* ActorAllusion: If you pay very close attention during the scenes with the vultures, you'll hear Jess Harnell doing his Ringo Starr impression. [[WesternAnimation/{{Animaniacs}} Again.]]
* AdaptationalHeroism: In the original story, many of the villagers are ImproperlyParanoid as they were played on by the local hunter Buldeo into turning against Mowgli and attempting to murder his adoptive parents; plus Mowgli's adoptive father was [[UngratefulBastard ungrateful towards Mowgli for saving both his and Messua's lives as they lost much of their belongings in the village]]. But here, the villagers are more welcoming towards outcasts; even Mowgli's adopted father was given PapaWolf tendencies as he's doing his best to raise Mowgli to become a valued community member. The villagers even aided Mowgli's adoptive father in his search to find Mowgli, Shanti and Ranjan when they were lost in the jungle.

** Baloo does the same twirl when peeling a mango with one of his claws.

* ArtEvolution: Due to the large SequelGap from the original film, this sequel has a notably different animation style. The "hard scratchy outline" look from the original is replaced with softer lines and a more lush colour palette akin to modern Disney movies. Additionally, while the designs remain mostly consistent with the original, some characters are animated differently [[note]]Mowgli in the original always walked on two legs like a normal human boy, while in this film he moves in a more agile and animal-like manner, similar to WesternAnimation/{{Tarzan}}[[/note]].

* AsideGlance: Shanti does this when she dosen't particularly believe Mowgli's fib that he saw tiger tracks yesterday.

* BiggerOnTheInside: The cave the elephants hide in is apparently able to fit Hathi's entire herd, as well as Bagheera, inside of it. Judging by the shot of Bagheera smushed between an elephant and the cave wall, it's a tight fit though.

* AndIMustScream: Also doubles as StepfordSmiler. When Kaa hypnotizes Shanti, she becomes so mesmerized that she can only obey his commands and not only inwardly freak out, but also inwardly start liking it as you can see from the briefly blissful smile. But she can clearly figure out his intentions, and when she snaps out of it she is relieved to be released but surprised to see Ranjan rescuing her.

** Even Shanti learns that you shouldn't grow up too fast and turns from a proper, sheltered, timid jungle-hating young village girl into a fiery, fun-loving GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak who loves Mowgli (and the jungle) even more.

* CurbStompBattle: Ranjan does such a number on Kaa that he (Kaa) swears off mancubs as a part of his diet. Even Shanti (who he was previously trying to devour) thinks [[SympathyForTheDevil he's had enough]].

* FirstGirlWins: Shanti was the very first girl Mowgli became friends with and fell in love with since the first movie. She was also the first human he ever saw.
* FreezeFrameBonus: You can see Ranjan's buttcrack during the wedgie scene if paused at the right frames.
* GRatedSex: It is implied that in the beginning and, mostly, the end, Mowgli and Shanti have been hanging out, and not just platonically, but also romantically and sometimes sexually, much to their parents' support.

* MsFanservice: As always, Shanti. Also Messua and Shanti's Mother.

* RelationshipUpgrade: In the beginning, Mowgli and Shanti had become [[BestFriend best friends]] to each other with some ShipTease. In the end, Mowgli and Shanti, who had started to accept their feelings for each other, becme an OfficialCouple when they returned to the village.

* ShipTease: There's a good bit of this between Mowgli and Shanti, even before and after they became an OfficialCouple. Shanti follows Mowgli into the jungle out of concern for his well-being. And when Shere Khan has her cornered, Mowgli is ready to lay down his life to save her. Later, Mowgli's unsure if he wants to go back to the village, making Shanti worry and assure him:
