Set in Marzipan City, an odd place full of weird and wonderful creatures, and even weirder and more wonderful ''foods'', the show tells the story of Chowder, a little fat lavender bear-cat-rabbit boy who is the apprentice of Mung Daal, chef and owner of his namesake catering company. Along with Mung's wife, Truffles, and gigantic rock monster, Shnitzel, they spend many crazy and wacky adventures together in the realm of cooking, while Chowder dreams of one day becoming a chef himself, though his eating habits might prove a problem...

* UncannyValley: Deliberately invoked and PlayedForLaughs with Foie Gras. Also TruthInTelevision: Foie Gras' appearance is based on the ManekiNeko, which actually is kind of creepy, with its big eyes and all.

The series returned through ''WesternAnimation/CartoonPlanet'' in 2012 as a part of Cartoon Network's 20th anniversary. As of March 2013, you can also find it on Creator/{{Netflix}} (originally, the first two seasons were available, but, as of 2015, it's the complete series). As of June 2, 2014, you can catch reruns on Creator/{{Boomerang}}.

** There is also Panini, a who has a ClingyJealousGirl with a fiery aggressive side when it comes time trying to get close to Chowder and Ceviche, who is so sweet and sensitive that even his [[DudeLooksLikeALady appearance is feminine]]

* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Married couple, Truffles and Mung, seem to have shades of this dynamic. Truffles has shown to be the most dominant person at the Catering Company, she's very aggressive, [[HotBlooded short-tempered]], brash and incredibly strong [[TheNapoleon despite her size]]. Mung on the other hand is far more sensitive, caring, soft-spoken, has cross dressed several times in the series and has shown signs of being AmbiguouslyBi and {{In Touch with His Feminine Side}}.

* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The two adult female characters of this show, Truffles and Endive. Truffles is short-tempered, aggressive, occasionally sarcastic and can [[MasculineGirlFeminineBoy overpower her husband in a fight]]. Endive (although also pretty aggressive) is more classy with a big fancy house and the personality reminiscent of a {{Rich Bitch}}.

* NiceHat: Chowder's purple hat. A secondary character named Ancho takes pride in his own hat in "Chowder Loses His Hat."
** Truffles' hat is quite impressive too.

* DubNameChange: The Japanese dub changes Kimchi's name to Natto, a Japanese bean dish known for its foul smell.

** Even better: [[spoiler: '''[[ExplosiveBreeder Panini has 20 babies]] ''[[UpToEleven in one day]].''''' Which makes sense considering they're (sort of) rabbits.]]

** The Lead Farfel and [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin the Teanie Meanie Cream Cake]] take is this trope UpToEleven.

* AbsenteeActor:
** "The Apprentice Scouts" is the only episode Mung Daal doesn't appear in.
** Mung and Truffles's absence is lampshaded in "A Faire to Remember", then subverted as they appear just before the episode ends.
** Parodied in "The Sleep Eater" when Truffles pops up out of nowhere asking if she can help solve a problem, Chowder's response below causes her [[PuffOfLogic disappear into a poof]]:
