They just want publicity and to collect residuals on all of their media coverage and merchandise. Some quirk owners also show traits of psychopathy, like Bakugou casually threatening to murder Midoriya and his family for petty reasons. Older heroes, like All-Might, are also jaded and paranoid, as shown when All-Might throws a whale into space after mistaking it for Gang Orca. This shows how superheroes can't really exist in the real world without being a psychotic monster; their logic doesn't apply in the real world, especially when they evade the consequences of their actions and when the media lionizes them under the belief that "The ends justify the means".
