** Originally, the dance scene in "[[Recap/FireflyE04Shindig Shindig]]" had Mal and Inara to dance, and for Mal to suck at it. However, Fillion and Creator/MorenaBaccarin spent so much time practicing the scene that Fillion learned it quite well and couldn't convincingly play someone who couldn't dance. They left that take and dubbed in a line by Mal saying "This dance I think I actually know."

** River goes without shoes (and wears boots when she does have them on) because Summer Glau has arthritis and tendonitis in her feet, which makes shoes painful to wear. Boots, specifically cowboy boots, are somewhat more comfortable. Summer also [[ActorInspiredElement requested to be barefoot]] because she didn't know how to properly show expression as River, and explained to Joss that as a dancer, she could do it through her feet.

* ConclusionInAnotherMedium: Aside from ''Serenity'', ''Darkhorse'' has begun regularly publishing comics that take place after the film. Unlike ''Buffy'', however, these are not in the form of a regular monthly series, but rather sequential six-issue mini-series. Two, ''Leaves On The Wind'' and ''No Power In The Verse'', have been released so far.

* ScrewedByTheNetwork: As if the ExecutiveMeddling wasn't bad enough on its own, it was very evident that whoever were making the executive decisions for Fox at the time really didn't get the show and had no idea what to do with it. Several episodes where aired out of order and some of them were preempted of them for baseball. To add insult to injury, the show was placed in the FridayNightDeathSlot and the channel's own adverts for the show promoted it as a action-comedy, which is quite far from an adequate description to put it mildly. Worst of all, the series didn't even get to finish its first season.

* InspirationForTheWork: Creator/JossWhedon developed the concept for the show after reading ''The Killer Angels'' by Michael Shaara chronicling the Battle of Gettysburg. He wanted to follow people who had fought on the losing side of a war, their experiences afterwards as pioneers and immigrants on the outskirts of civilization, much like the post-American Civil War era of Reconstruction and the American Old West. He also read a book about Jewish partisan fighters in World War II.

-->It was basically 90 minutes of vicious mockery. Joss pretended to have a slide projector, and he read her dialogue out loud and pretended he was giving a lecture on terrible writing as he went through the "slides" and made funny voices — funny for him. The guys were looking down at their pages, and this woman was fighting tears the entire time. I've had my share of shitty showrunners, but the intent to hurt — that's the thing that stands out for me now.

** Fox also attempted to get Whedon to not have Wash and Zoe married but Whedon refused to back down on that one. It’s thought that they might’ve been hoping for some Mal/Zoe shipping, which could make “War Stories” an episode-long TakeThat on the subject.

* SeriesContinuityError:
** Althoufh the Dark Horse comics and Titan books are very much in line, the Boom comics aren’t keeping up with things and fans continually find errors between the two. Some even consider the Titan/Dark Horse and Boom as separate timelines.
** In the series, Wash is fearful of having kids while Zoe wants kids. The comics have flip flopped on who had what point of view a few times.
** There’s a mention of something with Mal’s homeworld of Shadow despite the planet having been rendered uninhabitable during the war.
** The details of River’s rescue seem different between the series and movie although Simon may have just held back some things early on. The story is also addressed in the ''River Run'' comic.
** The comic “Watch How I Soar” shows Wash’s grave but there’s no sign of Book’s or Mr Universe’s despite them being buried right next to him.
