** "''Rebuild of Final Fantasy VII''" has become a moniker due to how [[spoiler:the game practically swerves from the original plotline]], much like how ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'' did to [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion its original show]].
** As soon as they realized what they were, the users of Website/FourChan quickly started calling the [[spoiler:Whispers of Fate things like Time Ghosts, Time Jannies, Changebad Ghosts, [[Franchise/TolkiensLegendarium Nazgûl]], [[Franchise/HarryPotter Dementors]], and [[https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/820/022/f91.png many other]] similar names]].
** Chadley has been dubbed "Discount [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII Hope Estheim]]", due to his very similar appearance to the latter.
** "Chairith" for [[spoiler:when Aerith cheerfully smashes a folding chair wrestling-style over Don Corneo's goons, due to it being [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments hilarious]] and clashing with Aerith's reputation for sweetness.]]

They said no such thing. What they actually said was that the remake would be a separate continuity from what had come before, not that they would discard everything the compilation came up with. The second part is also wrong, they said from the beginning that there would be story changes. Also the stuff about time travel is just one of many fan theories about the ending, the devs have even said in post-release interviews that the plan for future installments is to generally follow the plot of the original. Basically, we don't know yet.

* LyingCreator:
** Before release, it was stated that the game wasn’t going to include references to other works in the ''Compilation of Final Fantasy VII'' beyond what was in the original game. Actually, references to the ''Compilation'' are littered throughout the game, and not just as {{Mythology Gag}}s. [[spoiler:The ''Before Crisis'' incarnation of AVALANCHE appears, even using their original uniform designs from that title, and the game not only shows Zack's last stand against the Shinra army, but it is recreated shot-for-shot as ''Crisis Core'' depicted it.]]
** Before release, it was also stated that ''Remake'' would be a very faithful re-adaptation of the original, give or take a couple of minor changes. Come release, and the game delves into [[spoiler:alternate timelines and time travel, radically changing some events, even just the part of the game it's a remake of, such as having Biggs survive the event of the game, introducing the Arbiters of Fate, and ''saving Zack from his death'']].

* CreatorBacklash: Much like with ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII'', Creator/TetsuyaNomura has stated his belief that the remake was announced much too early. The reason for the 2015 reveal was because it was beginning to spread throughout the industry that Creator/SquareEnix was working on the game and they decided to announce it earlier than they wanted so that they wouldn't be upstaged by the game leaking out. There was also the fact that it was announced with him at the helm [[UpToEleven before he was even aware he was going to be doing so]].
