On top of being a gigantic hindrance to the player in the Tall, Tall Mountain, he steals your hats with annoyingly cute dialogue and he's near-impossible to catch. Which makes it all the more satisfying to roast him using Yoshi's Fire Flower in the DS version.

** And now as of ''[[UpdatedRerelease Deluxe]]'', you get a new character for completing all the cups on 200cc. Who is this mystery character, you might be asking? [[VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBros2 Gold Mario]], who's yet another PaletteSwap of Mario. BonusFeatureFailure doesn't even begin to describe it. Compared to other additions like Bowser Jr., Dry Bones, King Boo, and [[VideoGame/{{Splatoon}} the Inklings]] (all of which are available from the start), [[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers this inclusion sticks out like a sore thumb]]. And being the only unlockable character in the game turns out to be both a blessing and a curse considering that, at least, you don't ''have'' to get him; but if you do choose to go for it, you're still putting in a lot of hard work for another Mario clone. [[RuleOfCool At least his golden hue is stylish.]]

* From ''WesternAnimation/SuperMarioWorld'', we have Oogtar: a [[BrattyHalfPint bratty cave kid]] who runs his mouth and gets into trouble without any prompting. It doesn't help that he essentially [[ReplacementScrappy replaced Toad]], [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment despite Yoshi essentially filling the role as the fourth character for that series]], due to the fact that Toad's voice actor, John Stocker, was cast in the role. And to top it all off, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Oogtar doesn't even have any noteworthy memes to his name]].

** Il Piantissimo. His races can be difficult for some players, and he'll arrogantly trash-talk you if you lose, with Mario ''[[ScrappyMechanic losing a life]]'' afterward. InUniverse, even the [[ApatheticCitizens Piantas]] hate his guts, referring to him as a "rogue", "creep", "uncool", "inconsiderate" and are very insulted by his Pianta costume, which makes him an EthnicScrappy in-universe.
** [[AdamSmithHatesYourGuts The Blue Coin Merchant]] gets this for being the face of the game's most infamous ScrappyMechanic, the Blue Coins. Finding them is already enough of a nightmare if you don't know where to look, but then there's the fact that he's essentially hoarding an entire fifth of all Shine Sprites, which Isle Delfino's inhabitants need to ''survive,'' [[OnlyInItForTheMoney just to make a profit off of some already hard to find currency]].

** ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime:'' The Star Gate gets a lot of hate for being an unreasonable {{Jerkass}} to Luigi. Some have even compared him to a [[WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants Patrick Star]] knockoff. He has a few fans, but compared to his predecessor, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who prefers Lubba over Rosalina.

She is incredibly emotional and at times needlessly jerkish to Mario, and she has a tendency to get kidnapped which deprives you of one of the game's core mechanics, as well as preventing you from leaving the level or saving.[[note]]Kersti herself doesn't grant these powers, but the game is designed so that areas where she gets kidnapped don't let you leave without her, as the game would be pretty impossible without her abilities.[[/note]] However, the biggest thing is that unlike the other ExpositionFairy scrappies on this page, she tells you almost nothing useful. Her hint system flipflops between stating the obvious and making irrelevant comments on her surroundings, usually only being useful if the puzzle relies on Paperization. The fact that [[spoiler:she does a HeroicSacrifice during the final boss is negated by wish power undoing her death moments later. Even if her death caused [[AlasPoorScrappy just a brief moment of sorrow]], her near-instant revival cheapens the moment]]. * Baby Peach's special ability allows her to float using the wind, which usually only makes the player more likely to end up crashing headfirst into enemies or simply fall straight to the ground because she sometimes doesn't catch the wind to float. The fact that her crying is even more obnoxious than Baby Mario's doesn't help matters.

** ''VideoGame/PaperMario64:'' Where to begin with Jr. Troopa...? Aside from the fact that he chases Mario around for the dumbest reason ([[FelonyMisdemeanor Stepping in his playground? Really?]]), but he also never shuts up about how he'll best him at every turn. He doesn't, every fight with him is easy [[spoiler:save for the last one]] and even then he keeps interrupting your adventure at the worst possible times. He's so determined to beat Mario up that [[spoiler:[[HumanPopsicle not even being frozen in a block of ice will stop him.]]]] The fact that ruined a perfectly easy boss rematch with the [[EnsembleDarkhorse Koopa Bros]] doesn't help.

*** Flurrie is universally disliked due to her odd and creepy design and [[QuirkyBard general uselessness]] [[CrutchCharacter down the line.]]

*** Bowser in general has become a divisive character for some fans of both active Mario RPG spinoffs for taking over as the BigBad and breaking the trend of creating brand-new [[EnsembleDarkhorse fan-favorite]] villains for the RPG's. However, his appearance in ''Sticker Star'' is near-universally reviled, as [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter all his personality and humor from the previous games is wasted, and he has no dialogue whatsoever]]. Subsequent RPG games keep Bowser as the BigBad but handle it much better by giving him more characterization and turning him into an interesting KnightOfCerebus; however, fans of the RPG original characters still tend to be bitter about his status, leaving him as a BaseBreakingCharacter.

** ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga:'' Jojora, due to being a whiny bitch who attacks you for no real reason other than to delay getting to [[spoiler:Bowletta for the Beanstar exchange]].

** ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory:'' Private Goomp, Corporal Paraplonk, and Sergeant Guy are viewed by many as useless screw-ups that get way too much screentime. Come ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam'', they end up taking [[TookALevelInBadass multiple levels in badass]]... only to become [[GoddamnedBoss scrappies of another kind]]. This isn't helped by the fact that, in their debut, they betray Bowser, cause him to be rendered out of action up until the last level and by the end of the game, [[KarmaHoudini face no comeuppance at all]]. When you finally get to dish out some much-deserved pain, the boss fight is far too annoying to be remotely satisfying.

Not only is he gaming's biggest star reduced to a worthless, infantile caricature of himself, but he also irks the hell out of people with his obnoxious crying. ''And'' the whole game is a giant EscortMission! It probably surprised nobody when [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nfigSWuh7o a glitch allowing Yoshi to eat him was discovered]], AndThereWasMuchRejoicing.
* Baby Mario is bad enough, but ''Yoshi's Island DS'' decided to add even ''more'' baby versions of famous Nintendo characters including VideoGame/DonkeyKong, Bowser (though he was in the original Yoshi's Island as the final boss), and Wario. However, none of them can compare to the backlash that Baby Peach receives. Why? Because of her ill-designed special ability that allows her to float using the wind, which usually only makes the player more likely to end up crashing headfirst into enemies or simply fall straight to the ground because she sometimes doesn't catch the wind to float. She is incredibly emotional and at times needlessly jerkish to Mario, and she has a tendency to get kidnapped which deprives you of one of the game's core mechanics, as well as preventing you from leaving the level or saving.[[note]]Kersti herself doesn't grant these powers, but the game is designed so that areas where she gets kidnapped don't let you leave without her, as the game would be pretty impossible without her abilities.[[/note]] However, the biggest thing is that unlike the other ExpositionFairy scrappies on this page, she tells you almost nothing useful.
