** [[SmugSnake Il Piantissimo]] from the same game is also universally-hated for [[ThatOneLevel his infernal footracing missions]] -- which in turn started the trend of [[FranchiseOriginalSin dying when you lose a race]] in the 3D ''Mario'' games -- arrogance, immaturity through his [[BigStupidDooDooHead constant use of juvenile insults]] and assuming you're cheating when he loses, and being a total {{jerkass}}. Notably, he's considered this in-universe as well, with the Pianta (whom he wears a costume based off of), calling him disrespectful and a "creep".

Misuse. The Scrappy is a character that is universally hated for reasons unintended by the work. As stated in the trope page, "If this character is supposed to be hated due to being a villain, idiot, or Jerkass, they're a Hate Sink."

* ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi'' series:
** ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime:'' The Star Gate gets a lot of hate for being an unreasonable {{Jerkass}} to Luigi. Even though he later admits that he was only doing it [[SecretTestOfCharacter to see if Mario would defend him]], his cruelty to ''[[JerkassToOne just]]'' [[ButtMonkey Luigi]] comes across as incredibly excessive (e.g. [[MortonsFork giving him three options to answer a question, calling them all wrong, declaring the answer an unavailable fourth option, and accusing Luigi of lying when he points out that said fourth option did not exist for him to pick]]) which rubbed fans the wrong way and made them want to join Baby Mario when he starts bashing the gate with his hammer.
** ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam:''
*** The Dream Stone Spirit, considering how he acts like a total {{Jerkass}} to you and refuses to tell you where Bowser and Antasma were going with the MacGuffin which, may we remind you, ''he is the spirit of'', going so far as to turn into a giant drill machine to get rid of you for trying to get the information out of him. Essentially, he only exists to needlessly [[{{Padding}} pad the game's length]] and maybe because they needed a filler for another Giant Boss fight, especially since he has [[ForTheEvulz no sensible reason for any of his actions]]. Needless to say, it will be [[CatharsisFactor immensely satisfying]] to beat the snot out of him as Giant Luigi.
*** The Mole Hunt Proprietor, who runs the Mole Hunt minigame, a minigame that you're ''only'' playing because this idiot wants to make a quick buck off you by withholding access to the next part of the game until you pay him. (Granted, 10 coins is a pittance by the point in the game where it comes up, but still...) It's as if [[VideoGame/SpyroTheDragon Moneybags]] reincarnated into the Mario universe.

Re-added the Dream Stone spirit. If you haven't played the game, the Dream Stone spirit goes beyond just being a simple Hate Sink. He actively puts the plot to a halt because of the giant stick in his non-existent ass and was generally an unnecessary character who adds nothing to the narrative.

* Lubba from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'' gets some flak for being a ReplacementScrappy for [[BreakoutCharacter Rosalina]] as well as constantly spouting bad jokes/puns, generic encouragement, and reminders to take a break or change the Wii Remote's batteries (though to be fair, that last one isn't exclusive to him). Some have even compared him to a [[WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants Patrick Star]] knockoff. He has a few fans, but compared to his predecessor, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who prefers Lubba over Rosalina.

* Baby Peach's special ability allows her to float using the wind, which usually only makes the player more likely to end up crashing headfirst into enemies or simply fall straight to the ground because she sometimes doesn't catch the wind to float. *** Kersti, big time. She is incredibly emotional and at times needlessly jerkish to Mario, and she has a tendency to get kidnapped which deprives you of one of the game's core mechanics, as well as preventing you from leaving the level or saving.[[note]]Kersti herself doesn't grant these powers, but the game is designed so that areas where she gets kidnapped don't let you leave without her, as the game would be pretty impossible without her abilities.[[/note]] However, the biggest thing is that unlike the other ExpositionFairy scrappies on this page, she tells you almost nothing useful. Her hint system flipflops between stating the obvious and making irrelevant comments on her surroundings, usually only being useful if the puzzle relies on Paperization. The fact that [[spoiler:she does a HeroicSacrifice during the final boss is negated by wish power undoing her death moments later. Even if her death caused [[AlasPoorScrappy just a brief moment of sorrow]], her near-instant revival cheapens the moment]].

* Baby Mario is bad enough, but ''Yoshi's Island DS'' decided to add even ''more'' baby versions of famous Nintendo characters including VideoGame/DonkeyKong, Bowser (though he was in the original Yoshi's Island as the final boss), and Wario. However, none of them can compare to the backlash that Baby Peach receives. Why? Because of her ill-designed special ability that allows her to float using the wind, which usually only makes the player more likely to end up crashing headfirst into enemies or simply fall straight to the ground because she sometimes doesn't catch the wind to float. The fact that her crying is even more obnoxious than Baby Mario's doesn't help matters either.
