* BerserkButton: Celestia becomes extremely pissed when she finds she was tricked.

* BigBadFriend: The Mane Six themselves realize too late that it was Queen Chrysalis, who was disguised as Cadance all along.

* BodyHorror: The changelings, dear Celestia. They just generally look twisted and warped, but special mention goes to the Swiss-cheese holes in their wings, their tails, their manes, their ''[[NightmareFuel legs...]]''

* ThePowerOfFriendship: It's what got through to an enraged Twilight to realize that the Cadance in the cave isn't the fake Cadance who'd imprisoned her when she did the "Sunshine Sunshine" dance.

Chrysalis's victory is absolute: Canterlot is invaded by her army, Celestia is imprisoned inside of a cocoon, the bearers of the Elements of Harmony have been neutralized and Shining Armor's power has been completely drained, leaving him incapable to recast his energy barrier. When the evil queen stops to gloat, Twilight frees Cadance so she can go to the side of her love. She not only breaks the changeling's hold on him, but together, their love is strong enough to give Shining Armor the strength to once again perform his protection spell and banish the changelings, not only from Canterlot but from all of Equestria. The day is saved!

* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Twilight's friends learned it the hard way when the fake Cadance reveals herself as Queen Chrysalis.

* JerkassHasAPoint: Queen Chrysalis gets this when she brags to the cast that she managed to carry out her plan to take over Equestria even when Twilight Sparkle thinks something is wrong with Princess Cadance (who was actually Chrysalis herself in disguise) thanks to all of Twilight's friends not believing her and coldly walking out on her when she tried to explain herself. It was at that point when the others have a JerkassRealization and apologize to Twilight.

* ThePowerOfFriendship: It's what got through to an enraged Twilight to realize that the Cadance in the cave isn't the fake Cadance who'd imprisoned her.

* WhatTheHellHero: Chrysalis gives a smug villainous variation to Twilight's friends, by ignoring (and practically disowning) Twilight they allowed Chrysalis's EvilPlan to go forward without any problems. Applejack at the very least is [[JerkassRealization remorseful over this]], on behalf of herself and everypony else who feels the same way.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: The BigBad is as close to a ''[[HornyDevil succubus]]'' as a TV-Y-rated show can possibly get!

* TheReveal: The "Cadance" Twilight met in the previous episode was an evil fake in disguise; the real Cadance had been imprisoned beneath Canterlot.

** Twilight, losing respect from her friends and family, renews her place in their hearts, especially her brother's.

* BerserkButton: As soon as Fake!Cadance mentions that her plans involve her brother, Twilight gets ''pissed''! She fires a high-energy blast of magic at her and almost lays waste to the ''real'' Cadance a few moments later.

** The wedding preparations. Fake!Cadance went through them perfunctorily and was nasty about all of them. Real Cadance went through them with grace and joyous enthusiasm.

* KickTheDog: In addition to the previous episode, while Fake!Cadance is singing about how she does not love Shining Armor, she also playfully disintegrates a bowler hat...

* HoldingBackThePhlebotinum: When the changeling invasion moves into full swing, Princess Celestia immediately calls upon the Mane 6 to get the Elements of Harmony to stop them. However, [[ZergRush thanks to overwhelming numbers]], the heroes are stopped by the changeling army before they reach the Elements, much less use them.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: It's hard ''not'' to be reminded of a [[UsefulNotes/TheWarOnTerror certain tragedy]] during the changeling invasion, which is called by various people a terrorist attack, especially with the plot resembling another real life event, the Royal Wedding of William and Kate.

* WeddingDay: Shining Armor to Princess Cadance.

** The way that the Queen of the changelings disguises herself as the bride and enthralls Shining Armor is similar to how Ursula disguised herself as Vanessa in ''Disney/TheLittleMermaid'' and enthralls Prince Eric. And her VillainSong even brings to mind the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLS86g3_NYI song that Vanessa sings]] when talking about her own plans.
** Queen Chrysalis's transformation into her true form is very reminiscent of [[Disney/SleepingBeauty Maleficent]] complete with green flames erupting from the ground. Also, the final part of the transformation when she shows her face resembles a similar part in the transformation of Cure White from ''Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure''.

** The coach Shining Armor and Cadance leave in after the wedding is very similar to the one in ''Disney/{{Cinderella}}'' that was made from a pumpkin.

* IdiotBall: The changeling army faces off with the Mane Six... and promptly turns into look-alikes of them, resulting in a NeedleInAStackOfNeedles situation. While it does cause the heroes some trouble, it's ultimately to their benefit. It helps that the changelings don't seem that bright.

* NonProtagonistResolver: While the Mane Six try to reach the castle and retrieve the Elements they are ultimately captured by the [[ZergRush overwhelming number of Changelings]]. In the end the ones who actually defeat Chrysalis and the Changelings are Cadence and Shinning Armor who use the power of their love to supercharge Shinning Armor's barrier and send the Changelings flying. The most that the Mane Six do is Twilight blasting the webbing keeping Cadence stuck so she can go to Shinning Armor.

* VillainBall: Chrysalis once again holds on to it and this time it costs her. At the end of the episode not only has her army successfully invaded Canterlot, she has disabled Celestia, brainwashed Shinning Armor, and captured Cadence and the mane six essentially securing her victory. Despite this she makes no efforts to restrain the mane six, allowing Twilight to break Cadence out of her webbing and undo her spell on Shinning Armor. Then instead of restrain them ''again'' she mocks Cadence and Shinning for thinking that their love could stop her and allows them to preform their combined love barrier spell. Its only at the last second that she realises what a mistake it was but by then its to late and she and her Changelings are blasted out of Canterlot.

* ATwinkleInTheSky: The last seen of Chrysalis after she and her changelings are thrown out of Canterlot with Shining Armor and Cadance's [[ThePowerOfLove Power of Love]].

** The way the changelings scamper down the columns in the room where the Elements of Harmony are kept is the same as the way the orcs scamper down the columns and walls in the Mines of Moria in ''Film/TheLordOfTheRingsTheFellowshipOfTheRing

* BattleCouple: This is what happens when the MagicKnight Captain of the Royal Guard and a LoveGoddess (which is [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower surprisingly badass]]) {{Princess}} get married. Just ask Queen Chrysalis, if you can find where she landed.
