** Jataro's mother regretted ever having him because she felt he limited what she could do with her life, to the point where she wished he'd disappear or that she'd wake up one morning and he'd be dead. As if that wasn't bad enough, she was jealous of her son's beauty so she convinced him that he was ugly and made him wear a mask.

** During the entire cutscene, Jatarou alternates between being his usual TalkativeLoon self, and being actually threatening. It makes you ask yourself how much of his weirdness is genuine and how much is an act.

** Then it's revealed that the plan all this time was to fill Komaru with so much despair, that she'll turn into Junko Enoshima's successor. As Monaca put it, what better way to break Makoto Naegi than by turning his own sister into his sworn enemy?

** "Let's Play With Monokuma," the IronicNurseryRhyme the Monokuma Kids sing is creepy even if you don't understand Japanese and know that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5kXzOhPubM the lyrics]] are about how they'll murder all the adults, with lyrics like "Can we make mountain with a thousand corpses?" and "Set fire to a corpse and it becomes a campfire. It's especially shocking when you hear it out of nowhere in the dark hallways in Towa Hills, with teeth from Kotoko's denture launcher everywhere.

** Not to mention how Tokuichi [[AbusiveParents treated Monaca back when he was alive, as described below.]] Yikes, no wonder she decided to kill him.

The whole experience was so traumatizing that just hearing the word "gentle" [[TraumaButton causes her to have a breakdown]], as she was constantly told that the people she was being prostituted to would be gentle with her. It is especially upsetting the second time it happens in the game, when Toko says she is confused with how [[BigBad Junko Junko]] [[TheCorrupter Enoshima]] got to convince the Warriors of Hope that she was "some sweet, '''gentle''' girl", in which she, completely in tears, she tearfully yells at Toko and Komaru that [[FateWorseThanDeath she'd rather be]] ''[[FateWorseThanDeath killed]]'' [[FateWorseThanDeath than have anyone be "gentle" with her]].

** It went FromBadToWorse very soon, when we start seeing the sequels such backstory left in Kotoko's mind. It's as much of a TearJerker as it is NightmareFuel to know she sees rape and sexual assault as a form of punishment towards 'cute female demons'. There are few things scarier than seeing such a young child trying to sexually assault Komaru in chapter 3. It got EVEN worse in ''Ultra Despair Hagakure'', where she tries and ''successfully'' sexually assaults Kanon Nakajima the same way she did to Komaru in the game proper, describing gleefully how she wants to make her into a "living urinal" while heavily implying she's inflicting on Kanon the same things that were inflicted on her. It's NightmareFuel, {{Squick}} and TearJerker at once, and getting to read Kanon's thoughts while it happens it's much more terrifying.

* First of all, this game appears to be a ''scarily accurate'' metaphor for a revolutionary takeover against an established government; No matter how stable, advanced and wealthy the current system is, everything can just ''crumble'' into dust by a revolutionary takeover within an instant. While the revolutionaries might have and will almost always have genuine grievances like the Warriors of Hope, the revolution itself ''will'' always have ulterior motives, and after the takeover succeeds, the entire societal order will collapse in its very fabric with the revolutionaries going out to purge swathes of people they don't like.
** Just like a real revolution, the worst traitor and instigator are always inside the gates for any of it to happen smoothly. In this case, it's Monaca Towa who happens to be the daughter of the city head!

* At the start of Chapter 3, it's implied that Kotoko is a rape victim, but later we find out the sordid details: Kotoko was actually forced into child prostitution by both her parents, and was most likely raped by those involved in the production of her shows. Her mother felt that it was the best way to help Kotoko's career, and she even prostituted herself along with Kotoko while believing that it was all for her daughter's best interest. Her father, however, just used the money earned from all of this for his own gain, and was even having an affair with his dental hygienist. And he was planning to sell her off into sex slavery too, once she got older and the gravy train slowed down.
