* SubvertedSitcom: The first episode sets it up as a cute, funny SliceOfLife show about teenage girls' hijinks about their beloved school club. The FirstEpisodeTwist shows that the setting is actually a ZombieApocalypse, the club members are survivors holed up in their school, and the whole cutesy setup [[ThroughTheEyesOfMadness was the result of Yuki's mental breakdown]] trying to cope.

* {{Gainaxing}}: In the opening credits, Yuri's breasts jiggle for a moment after a flower bounces off them.

** When the girls reach St. Isidore, it's revealed that the girls who are camped there have video games and movies. BlandNameProduct versions of ''VideoGame/Fallout3'', ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas'', ''VideoGame/{{Splatoon}}'', ''Film/{{Rec}}'', ''Film/TheRaid'', and ''Film/MadMax'' are all clearly seen.

* BaitAndSwitchCredits: The anime's [[https://youtu.be/UNjHxhljAck opening credits]], particularly for the first episode, have adorable scenes of the main characters goofing around at school to an upbeat, peppy song, making it seem as though it's a typical light-hearted SchoolgirlSeries. This belies the fact that the girls are actually trying to survive in a ZombieApocalypse. As the anime goes on, the opening's visuals [[EvolvingCredits gradually change]] to reveal more of the story's true nature, such as adding shambling zombies outside and showing the school's dilapidated state.

* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: A rather sad version of the GenkiGirl trope. Yuki is so cheerful and optimistic that her mind outright ''refuses'' to see how gloomy and depressing the situation is, to the point of hallucinating that the rest of the students are fine and there is no ZombieApocalypse. Her cute, eccentric personality caused her to be bullied prior to the apocalypse. Her NiceHat in particular was considered weird by others.

* NiceHat: Yuki's cat-eared hat with its cat face pin. She stops wearing it in the final episode [[spoiler:as she buries it with Taroumaru]], though in the manga that doesn't happen and she still wears the hat after [[spoiler:leaving the school]].

* CosyCatastrophe: Despite the ZombieApocalypse, the cast gets to live out many of the classic SchoolGirlSeries plots. Yuki's delusions are also this taken UpToEleven, with her mind outright ignoring that there was a catastrophe at all.

Yuki Takeya is in love with the school. For her, it's a wonderful place, where she enjoys her school activities, especially the activities of her club: School Life Club. The club has Rii-san as the president, Kurumi-chan as another member, and the teacher, Megu-nee, always there for them. Yes, she is in love with her school. What follows is the adventures of their club, as they live on the school grounds and mooch off from its services for as long as possible!

The ''truth'' about the whole situation she and her friends are currently in is much less colorful and far bleaker than Yuki can ever imagine. In reality, the beautiful school she enjoys so much is in ruins, the School Life Club is more or less barricaded in a section of their school, and she and her friends are the only living people likely left in a city that is overrun with zombies. Despite this, her friends try to let Yuki live as close to a normal school life as they could manage, and through these efforts find it within themselves to ''live'', and not merely exist day-by-day in the hellish situation they're in.

* BaitAndSwitch: The anime production obviously had a lot of fun in building up the series prior to its TV premiere as a happy and fun Kirara-style SchoolgirlSeries from the get-go, with zero hint that there are zombies involved at all. The anime itself lives by this trope in the first episode; the opening shows a completely untarnished school and Yuki spends the entire episode in the happy series that was marketed. It's only in [[FirstEpisodeTwist the last few minutes]] that it's revealed she was imagining everyone outside her club, and the real state of the school. From Episode 2 onward, the opening itself starts to show the facade slipping.
