Both share the same story formula (Japan is afflicted by a country-wide apocalypse due to rampaging critters), almost every character is {{Gonk}} (except for the main characters [[spoiler:save for one who was a protagonist]]), and both share a GreenAesop. Some of the characters here are similar to ''Bio Meat'' as well in both looks and personality.

* SwarmOfRats: Taken UpToEleven. Now with ant and mosquito swarms. Also, roaches.

* {{Meganekko}}: Ryuuto is a male example. He wears huge glasses, and is sweet, kind-hearted, and adorable.

* AdultFear: All over the place, but especially when it concerns Kanon and Ryuuto. When Togakushi learns the rat swarm has spread to Tokyo where his children are at, his response is to hightail it out of there so he can save them. Togakushi later has a nightmare about finding his kids only to find their corpses covered in ants.

* FeatheredFiend: Completely averted. When it looks like Kanon and Ryuuto, trapped on the roof of their house, appear ready to be devoured by the surrounding swarm, a flock of crows descend from the sky and devour the rats, inadvertently saving their lives in the process.

** Averted with Kizaki, who also works at Ryuuto's school but is a ReasonableAuthorityFigure [[spoiler:even sacrificing himself later to save Ryuuto and Kanon from rats]].

Best example comes when one of the group of survivors huddling in the elementary school for refuge beats a pest control worker with a chair in a rage and panic when he reminds the other survivors that the invading rats will double their numbers until they overrun the area and endanger the human population. The rest of the survivors (barring the heroes) cheer the attacker on.

* {{Kids Are Cruel}} Ryuuto's classmates, in addition to being ridiculously {{Gonk}}, {{Kick The Dog}} when they crush one of his cherished Hercules beetles. Why? Because they got annoyed when Ryuuto proclaimed their right to live and responsibility to their care against them wanting to get rid of them because they thought they were useless.
* ParentWithNewParamour: While Chief Togakushi [[ObliviousToLove seems oblivious to the feelings of Asagiri]], Kanon is quick to notice the way she acts around him. This drives a wedge between the father and daughter, as she feels that it's too soon for him to abandon the memory of her mother.

''Region'' is a {{horror}} {{manga}} by Fujisawa Yuki, the author of ''Manga/{{BioMeat|Nectar}}''. It began its run in 2007, and was serialized in the magazine Play Comic.

* BeautyEqualsGoodness: As in the author's [[BioMeat previous manga]], if you're a {{Gonk}} then you're an asshole (who'll likely end up on the menu sooner than later).

* {{Gonk}}: Just like in ''Manga/{{BioMeat|Nectar}}'', lots and lots of unsympathetic secondary characters look like they were beaten with the fugly stick nine times over.

* {{Feathered Fiends}}: Completely averted. When it looks like Kanon and Ryuuto, trapped on the roof of their house, appear ready to be devoured by the surrounding swarm, a flock of crows descend from the sky and devour the rats, inadvertently saving their lives in the process.

* MoralEventHorizon: Ryuuto's teacher crosses this when [[spoiler: he tell his students to cover their eyes and stand in a corner, then lets the swarm of rats in and runs for it, leaving an entire classroom of elementary-schoolers to be eaten alive. Sure, they were [[AssholeVictim Asshole Victims]] but ''still!'']]
** He was also going to trick Ryuuto into eating a rice ball spiked with poison, out of fear that he would suspect his involvement in the students' deaths and [[IncrediblyLamePun rat]] him out, even though its clear Ryuuto is too kind-hearted and naive to do so. Only the timely intervention of Kizaki, who was perfectly aware of the teacher's intentions from the beginning, prevented Ryuuto from dying an early death.

* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Kizaki-sensei and Hayase carry Kanon and Ryuto to the ocean to save them from ants, then ''go back'' to grab a small boat for them to use, knowing that the ants will overcome and devour them.]]
