** Throughout episode 1, Ruri is awkward and frazzled when it looks like her classmates are going to discover the secret behind the mysterious "him" she keeps thinking of. It would've had a funny payoff at the end, if it hadn't been spoiled in the opening. Strangely, most anime delay the opening credits until the end of the first episode to avoid spoiling characters and motivations, but Anne-Happy doesn't.

Added DiffLines:

* CurbStompBattle: Anne is on the receiving end of one during her duel against Kodaira-sensei in the 1 on 1 dueling game. However, the other girls jump in to help her, and ultimately avert the trope.

Added DiffLines:

* DeepImmersionGaming: Episode 8, where the girls are first in a virtual casino. Later they go to a different area where they compete with each other in a 1 on 1 duel using generic fantasy classes such as knight and wizard. Unfortunately for Anne, there are no other students for her to duel, so Kodaira-sensei acts as her opponent.

Added DiffLines:

* OneWingedAngel: PlayedForLaughs during episode 8, when Kodaira-sensei does this to defeat the girls in a virtual fantasy fight. When Timothy offers them advice on how to defeat her, she gets rather pissed at him and screams his name while launching a massive attack at the girls.

Added DiffLines:

* ThePowerOfFriendship: One of the main themes the girls are taught, albeit in very unorthodox manners such as working together to defeat Kodaira-sensei's Black Knight during the dueling tournament. Though they sometimes fail, they still learn to lean on each other and rely on everyone's help to get through exams and homework assignments.

Added DiffLines:

* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Anne is forced to duel Kodaira-sensei in episode 8 because all of the other girls have already played their ten games, so she had no one else to duel. However, she is ridiculously outclassed as a dancer taking on Kodaira's Black Knight. This doesn't stop the other girls from jumping into the fight. And with Timothy's helpful suggestion that they change classes, the girls manage to beat their teacher, who in the heat of the battle gets really mad at Timothy, stepping on him and tying him up to a tree later.

Added DiffLines:

* SeriousBusiness: Kodaira-sensei has a moment of this during the second half of episode 8. She initially duels Anne, but when it becomes obvious the latter was going to lose, fail the exam and have to take summer classes, the other girls end up jumping in to help. Kodaira-sensei then goes into OneWingedAngel mode, and gets rather pissed at Timothy for his suggestion that the girls change to the Valkyrie class, and use ThePowerOfFriendship to defeat her. Though she congratulates the girls, she steps on Timothy rather hard after the fight, and as the ending credits roll, he is seen tied up and hanging from a tree later that night.

Moving some character tropes to character sheet.

* ACupAngst: Anne is prone to expressing displeasure with her assets when reminded of Botan's much larger bust. The issue is humorously only in Anne's imagination, as she's at least average size and comparing herself to the most endowed student of the class. Timothy lecherously points this out when it wonders aloud what Botan has been eating to get her enormous chest.

* AnimalsHateHim: Anne likes animals. However animals don't like her back. Sakaki from Manga/AzumangaDaioh would definitely empathize with her situation. Not only real animals hate her; she has yet been able to pet Timothy, a rabbit-shaped robot.

* Bifauxnen: Ren looks more like a pretty boy than a girl.

* BornUnlucky: Anne. Kodaira's secret report on her bluntly says that her luck was "in the negative numbers". Despite this, she's still an odd case, as apparently she's so unlucky that it circles around and makes it seem that she was BornLucky instead. For example, in episode 1, she's the only person in the class whose egg didn't break (instead it hatched into a chick, which should be impossible, as the eggs used were specifically at their expiry date), while in episode 2 its implied that the only reason why she wasn't able to get Ruri and Botan the drinks they wanted from the vendo machines was because the items loaded in it were mis-arranged in the first place. Because of this, may veer into UnluckilyLucky territory. It turns out to be genetic as her mother also has equal terrible luck.
* BrilliantButLazy: Ren is athletic and a very creative thinker, but tries to do the least amount of work and maximize her nap time.

* CatchPhrase: Hanako is fond of using the word sugoku (Japanese for immensely) when describing how pleased she is about something. Creator/YenPress, for their literal style, decides not to consistently translate this.

* ChickMagnet: trope in Ren's case; she can attract females of any species. This trope was spelt out word-by-word in Yen Press' translation.

* CloudCuckooLandersMinder:
** Ruri for both Anne and Botan, as she's the one who tries to keep them out of trouble most of the time.
** Ren and Hibiki are this for each other. Ren keeps Hibiki from getting lost, while Hibiki prevents Ren from being too lazy. Both are prone to getting into trouble if left alone without the other.

* DubNameChange: Anne is originally "An." Strangely, this is one of the few cases where the Western viewers don't complain about, probably because Cotoji calls the series Anne Happy in the first place, making "Anne" co-official with "An."

* FeminineWomenCanCook: Ruri. Justified in her case, however, as she's living alone and had to learn to cook for herself.

* FinaglesLaw: One can be absolutely sure Anne's always at the short end of it.

* FriendlessBackground: Ruri has no friends in middle school, and so she doesn't have much idea about what to wear to an outing with friends.
* GirlishPigtails: Hibiki had this hairstyle when she was younger.

* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Botan does this several times an episode.
* HeyYou: Hibiki doesn't use any JapaneseHonorifics to refer to anyone.

* IllGirl: Botan falls sick and/or get injured easily, and that's putting it lightly. Much like Anne though, she's an odd case as while she gets hurt easily, Botan also recovers quickly as well, as none of her breaks or dislocations last more than a day in-universe.
* ImportantHaircut: Ren had one in the third grade, when she cut off her previously long hair to persuade Hibiki to agree to cut the latter's hair, which has trapped to the school gate. Ren maintained that hair length up to this day.

* KnowYourVines: In Episode 12, Ruri shows the ability to recognize a lot of plants. It appears that her parents are even better in this.

* Meganekko: She won't admit it, but Botan is a classic example of this, in the same vein as Manga/LuckyStars Miyuki Takara.

* MinorLivingAlone: As revealed in episode 5, Ruri lives on her own, as both her parents are working abroad.

* NoSenseOfDirection: Hibiki. Even if her destination's right in front of her, she'll find a way to veer off course. She typically takes three hours just to walk to school from home.
* ObliviouslyBeautiful: Botan is absolutely convinced her pale skin is sickly, hair is stringy, and she's overweight. Others point out her skin is like flawless porcelain, has silk hair, and the increasing weight is due to an impressive bust.
* TheOjou: In the first episode Botan leaves what looks like a BigFancyHouse with two maidservants saying goodbye, putting her into this trope.

* OnlySaneMan: Subverted. Ruri thinks she is this and for a while that looks to be the case. Then, her longtime love for a construction sign is revealed.

* PerverseSexualLust: InUniverse; Hibari falls in love with a construction safety sign with a cartoony construction worker on it.

* ThePollyanna: Anne maintains a positive attitude despite her bad luck.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Worn by Botan, as fitting for someone who appears to be well-off.

* ShelteredAristocrat: Botan exhibits signs of it on occasion. The most telling are moments when she enjoys spending time with Anne and Ruri, more so than a person normally would. It doesn't matter what she does with them: she just loves having the chance to be there too.

* Sleepyhead: Ren, who takes every opportunity to nap when she can.

* SpiritedCompetitor: Hibiki. She'll even compete for last place, because that means she's the top of something.

* TheStoic: Ren rarely expresses anything other than a hushed tone.

* ThirdPersonPerson: Hibiki always calls herself "Hibiki." It sounds horribly awkward in English, so Crunchyroll's subtitles forgoes it entirely and has Hibiki speak like a normal person, while Creator/YenPress' (a company quite well-known for being overly literal) translation of the manga retains it, leading to some awkwardly-phrased sentences.

* Tsundere: Hibiki switches between snippy and reluctant acceptance towards her other four companions. Though for Ren, she does it to hide her feelings.
* UnluckilyLucky: Anne's unluckiness, for the most part, only causes minor inconveniences for her. In real life, it could have been fatal--for example, considering the fact that AnimalsHateHer, and will scratch her when she tries to pet them. Yet she still does it for years.

* VengefulVendingMachine: Hanako can't even buy a drink from a vending machine without something going horribly wrong. No matter what she tries to buy, she'll end up with some kind of weird drink roulette.
