* Classic '50s sci-fi movie ''Film/ItCameFromOuterSpace'' derives its central tension from which of these two scenarios it's ultimately going to be, and the awful weight of responsibility in navigating such a situation. * ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIV'': "Republican Space Rangers" mocks this trope to hell and back as part of the satire.

to:

*** The sequels reveal that the alien leaders' master plan was to harvest human DNA, which contains a rare genetic sequence that allows for a combination of peak physical performance and psionic spellcraft, in order to save the galaxy... by pulping humans en masse so they can get shiny supermen bodies for their frail psionic ghosts to inhabit. When they win in Enemy Unknown, they set up a worldwide dictatorship to streamline the process of getting humans to sit in their fancy tubes. Also, the alien leaders have been brainwashing, segregating, and outright torturing their minions (who were also subject to the same atrocities as Earth in their first contact histories) to maintain control. Most of the aliens revolt in disgust when they realize ''they'' were also victims of the scam.
