It isn't until Trish tells him this that Mista realizes how dirty he is, contemplating whether or not he should take a shower.

* ''Manga/ChainsawMan'': Power has an awful personal hygiene, as she doesn't like to bathe or even flush a toilet. Denji and Aki are disgusted to find out how filthy she is when she moves in with them. Power thinks humans are too concerned about being cleaned.

* ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' had Dogpoo, an obvious ShoutOut to Pig-Pen.

* Oscar the Grouch from ''Series/SesameStreet'' lives in a garbage can.

* Chloe Sakamata of ''WebAnimation/{{hololive}}'' has quickly established herself as the least cleanly member of the agency. During her debut stream, she told a story about how [[TrashOfTheTitans her room got so messy]] that her family had to hire professionals to clean it out for her (specifically mentioning that there was a "wall" in front of the ''actual'' wall), she freely admits to only bathing every couple of days ''at best'', and not only does she not use bed sheets, ''she doesn't even know what they are''. It got to the point that when it was announced that Chloe would move into fellow ''hololive'' member Lui Takane's house, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIxwtK9T_h8 Lui made it clear]] that unless Chloe bathed, she would not be recieving any food and would not be allowed in the living room, which humorously made Chloe [[FauxHorrific start wailing in despair]].

* In ''Fanfic/{{Poison}}'', Moto is an extreme example, and Sarafina starts out this way, though this is one of many things about her that changes as a result of CharacterDevelopment.

* ''Series/BarRescue:'' "Dirty Red" didn't get that nickname for nothing. Taken UpToEleven when he cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom and felt the need to use the dish area to take a shower.

* One of the episodes of ''WesternAnimation/FanboyAndChumChum'' deals with Fanboy trying to beat a record on going for the longest time without a bath. The trope was brought UpToEleven in this case -- his costume got so incredibly dirty, it came to life and gained the personality of a mobster called Stinks.

* Pedestrians in ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoSanAndreas'' are known to loudly comment on CJ's body odor if his sex-appeal stat is low.

* One generic NPC sprite in ''VideoGame/EarthBound'' is a dirty young boy [[CaptainErsatz who looks remarkably like Pig-Pen himself.]]

* Legend has it that Louis XIV only bathed twice in his entire life. ''Twice''. And he hated both of them. [[Literature/HorribleHistories The story goes]] that he once had his socks removed and he was so moldy that one of his toes dropped off. Like most who could afford it, he limited his hygiene to changing clothes (or at least shirts and undergarments) several times a day. Clothes were cleaned regularly, bodies... not so much. The truth is, however, that some courtiers who followed the suit sometimes complained about king's smell.

* Comedian, Doug Stanhope, openly admits in his podcast he regularly goes days without showering, or for that matter changing clothes… even underwear, all while at the same time, acknowledging he can get ripe over time.

There is some TruthInTelevision, [[TheDungAges as people used to rarely bathe or keep themselves clean.]] But as inventions such as electricity, indoor heating and indoor plumbing became more commonplace, walking around in a large layer of grime became rarer.

* The 14th Century Occitane mountain peasants described in the book "Montaillou" based on their own testimony to the Inquisition, never washed their entire bodies, even after death. Just the face, specifically around the mouth, and their hands before eating. The only exception was if stricken with leprosy, when they would go down to the valley towns to the medicinal baths. Delousing each other was a major leisure occupation.
* Possibly due to the same unknown genetic disorder that caused him to be a ([[ExtremeOmnivore very]] [[HorrorHunger disturbing]]) real-life example of a BigEater, the 18th Century French showman and soldier [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarrare Tarrare]] had a body odour that stank to High Hell even by 18th Century French peasant standards, and it tended to amp up its intensity whenever he ate. Accoding to his contemporaries, Tarrare "couldn't be endured within a distance of twenty paces". And that's before we even start talking about his chronic diarrhea...

Though usually seen as an AlwaysMale Trope, there is still a fair amount of female pig pens. However, if a female character is a pig pen, it's usually a surefire sign that she's also a [[{{Tomboy}} tomboy]] as most girly girls [[NeatFreak hate being gross, filthy, or unhygienic]].

* ''Pongalongapongo'' / ''Krazy Gang'' -- [[http://www.toonhound.com/pongalongapongo.htm Pongo Snodgrass,]] a 70's-80's British comics character who loved filth and all things putrid, and was also something of a schemer.

* Gunner Jurgen from the ''Literature/CiaphasCain'' novels fits this to a tee. He is exempt from normal Imperial Guard peacetime cleanliness regulations due to a variety of skin conditions. Other than Cain himself, nobody wants to be around him. [[spoiler: Of course that has more to do with Jurgen being a soulless AntiMagic pariah, but his filthiness tends to be what people fixate on when they feel repelled by him.]]

* JamesClemens (AKA JamesRollins) ''Literature/TheGodslayerChronicles'' has Bloodnullers; priests of the Gods who cover themselves head to toe in "Black Bile" [[spoiler: (Gods' Shit)]] which is used to nullify Graces given by the Gods' other Humorals. They are easily identified by their filth covered robes and the obvious stench.

** One 40K GaidenGame had this as a character trait- specifically, the character comes from a primitive world and believes being caked in dirt wards off evil spirits.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheTransformers'' had three characters who were known for this quality (at least in their toy bios- it didn't necessarily make it to the show). First, there's the Autobot targetmaster [[MeaningfulName Landfill]], who turns into a dump truck and doesn't ever quite understand that after hauling around a few loads of leaking hazardous material it'd be polite to use some cleaning agents on yourself. Then there's the Decepticon Terrocon Blot. In his case, the filth issue really isn't his fault: he's got problems with leaky connections that he just can't fix that leave him constantly dripping foul sludge. But the one who really takes the prize is the Decepticon Horrorcon, Snapdragon. Unlike the other two, he realizes how disgusting and foul he is and he ''revels'' in it. He loves to roll in whatever nasty spills he can find to insure that he's got the worst stench possible.

* [[WesternAnimation/CaptainCavemanAndTheTeenAngels Captain Caveman]] is a big hairy ball of filth.

* In "Another One Rides the Bus," Music/WeirdAlYankovic briefly mentions a passenger who "hasn't showered in a year."
