* Odd example in ''WesternAnimation/TheEmperorsNewGroove:'' The movie begins InMediasRes, with Kuzco [[ForcedTrabsformation as a llama]] alone and depressed in the jungle; his voiceover then begins to narrate HowWeGotHere, often reminding us that [[UnreliableNarrator he did nothing wrong and this is everybody else's fault]]. Unfortunately for her, these doppelgangers also possess free will and the same [[ControlFreak ironclad certainty that they should be the only one making decisions]], leading to them mostly plotting against each other rather than actually advancing the Allmother's schemes. Since they all have the exact same skills, experience, and personality, they also find themselves unable to make much headway against each other due to being stuck in a perfectly even match.

* Waverider from ''ComicBook/Armageddon2001'' initially had a bad relationship with the leader of the Linear Men when it was revealed that he is the Matthew Ryder that ended up living the life Waverider had lived (or would have lived in the new timeline) and so ended up killing the other Matthew Ryder. This, of course, had the effect of causing Waverider, Superman, and the Linear Men to be trapped in a Nullsphere with no way to escape...until Waverider used the energy from Hunter's eye beam to alter time so that the other Matthew Ryder would not be killed in the first place. Both Matthew Ryders made their amends with each other and Waverider became a new member of the Linear Men.
* ''ComicBook/TheAuthority:'' while crossing over to a GenderFlipped AlternateUniverse to talk to their counterparts, Jack Hawksmoor's equivalent is visibly pregnant. When asked about how he feels to see himself female and pregnant, he responds that he doesn't want to find out who the father is.
* Mr Block of ''ComicBook/BlackScience'' uses his access to transdimensional travel to contact his other selves and negotiate trades. One such trade goes south when both Blocks are equally intractable about their terms.
* In one [[ComicBook/DisneyDucksComicUniverse Disney comic]], Donald Duck's friends and family force him to spend 24 hours with a duplicate of himself, to show him how annoying he is.
* ''ComicBook/FantasticFour'': [[http://hatofunthinking.tumblr.com/post/102615711565/little-and-big-valeria-they-really-dont-like Present and Future]] Valeria Richards don't seem to be getting along with each other.
* One issue of ''ComicBook/AstroCity'' features a comic book editor who publishes fictionalized stories about the local supers. The heroine Nightingale pays him an irate visit to complain about his insinuations of a lesbian relationship between her and her sidekick Sunbird, and then the villain Glowworm beats the crap out of him for depicting him as a white supremacist (which particularly offends him since he's [[YouKnowImBlackRight actually black]] under the PowerGlow. He decides to switch to stories about cosmic entities who (he thinks) are above caring what humans say about them. It turns out that they are {{not so above it all}}; one day, his office building vanishes with him in it.
* ''ComicBook/GravityFallsLostLegends'': One of the stories has Mabel get stuck in a pocket dimension full of alternate versions of herself. Mabel grows frustrated with the other Mabels' [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny poor attention spans]], [[ItsAllAboutMe self-absorption]] and short-sightedness, which leads to a JerkassRealization.
* When ''ComicBook/HeroesReborn'' started, its version of the Avengers had a version of Thor that was TheBerserker, but the post-Creator/RobLiefeld issues revealed that this wasn't the real Thor and when the real KnightInShiningArmor Thor ''did'' show up, neither really liked the other.
* In ''ComicBook/HeroSquared'' the "normal" Milo is quite annoyed with the Superhero version of himself from another universe (Captain Valor), and vice versa. Valor is less-than-impressed with Milo's selfishness and complete failure to make anything of his life, whilst Milo resents Valor's smug self-righteousness and over-simplified view of the world and how it works.
* ''ComicBook/InvaderZimOni'':
** In Issue 12, Zim and Dib are accidentally slingshotted into a BadFuture where Zim has conquered the world and declared himself Emperor. Present Zim is naturally thrilled by this, but as Emperor Zim is somewhat more mature and competent, he finds his past self to be an idiot and acts dismissive towards him. This leads to the insulted Present Zim [[EnemyMine teaming up with Dib]] to defeat Emperor Zim and escape back to their own time.
** This is also a big part of the Battle Void arc (Issues 46-49), which features a PocketDimension full of numerous [[AlternateSelf alternate counterparts]] of the same person [[spoiler: (namely Zim)]]. They're all convinced that they're the best version, and are constantly butting heads. [[spoiler: It also turns out that the whole place is secretly run by an AxCrazy counterpart of Dib, who is horrified when he realizes this; the other Dib, meanwhile, views the main one as an idiot, so acts dismissively towards him even before they come into conflict.]]
* ''ComicBook/JudgeDredd'':
** In one story, Dredd's arch-enemy Judge Death escapes from confinement and goes back to Deadworld to restrategize, but a mistake by the dimension-travel scientist sends both Death and the scientist back in time as well. When the two Judge Deaths run into each other, the past one initially runs his claw through the future one's chest. He's ultimately glad after Dredd takes his alternate self back to the future, because he really didn't want to deal with another him.
** Downplayed in the 2021 story "Trinity", a one-shot from ''ComicBook/TwoThousandAD'' #2262, where Dredd encounters and must briefly team up with parallel versions of himself representing the [[Film/JudgeDredd 1995]] and [[Film/{{Dredd}} 2012]] film adaptations. Being all Dredds, they get some snide commentary on each other in; their first meeting has 2012!Dredd jeering at the fanciful designs of Dredd and 1995!Dredd's uniforms, which causes the original to mock 2012!Dredd's visibly body armor-inspired outfit in turn. Dredd mocks his counterparts for not having the advanced super-tech of his world, and neither Dredd nor 2012!Dredd think highly of 1995!Dredd's "Double-Whammy" Lawmaker round, nor his willingness to use his helmet as a decoy to apprehend the perp they're after. However, the biggest bone of contention is between Dredd and 2012!Dredd due to the latter's [[JudgeJuryAndExecutioner standard policy being to execute any lawbreakers]]. Dredd feels 2012!Dredd is too harsh, whilst 2012!Dredd in return calls his counterpart out as too soft.
* Comicbook/{{Loki}}:
** In ''ComicBook/LokiAgentOfAsgard'', [[spoiler:Old Loki]] has nothing but contempt for the new, younger Loki who is on a quest to redeem themself and escape their role as the villain of the tale. When the two finally meet face to face, they [[DidYouActuallyBelieve mock]] younger Loki [[spoiler:and reveal that they'll never stop being the villain BecauseDestinySaysSo]]. Let's just say [[spoiler:Old Loki]] doesn't take well what [[ScrewDestiny happens later]].
** Similarly, in ''ComicBook/YoungAvengers'', Loki is haunted by [[spoiler:kid Loki]] who constantly annoys them by mocking their wicked schemes, deconstructing their motives, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking spouting bad puns]].
** When reintroduced in ''Comicbook/Thor2014'' the jerk does a Loki trademark MesACrowd with the twist of all copies being different versions of themself. ''It literally devolves into a Loki fight'' over how much the others suck ("I'm beginning to hate myself.").
* In the ''[[ComicBook/Supergirl2005 Post Crisis continuity]]'', ComicBook/PowerGirl rather disliked ComicBook/{{Supergirl}} for several reasons: she felt Kara's existence made hers redundant, their powers went haywire when they got closer, and Kara's early attitude was bratty (because of Kryptonite poisoning, but neither of them knew that in the time). Although Kara attempted to make amends, they hardly got along. However it's Power Girl who makes Supergirl feel upset in the ''[[ComicBook/Supergirl2011 Post-Flashpoint universe]]'', since Kara feels she's a wreck compared with her alternate adult self.
* ''Creator/MarvelComics'':
** In the ''ComicBook/IdentityWars'' miniseries ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}, ComicBook/SpiderMan and [[ComicBook/IncredibleHulk the Hulk]] cross over into an alternate dimension. Spider-Man's alternate version is a WellIntentionedExtremist, which annoys Spidey. Deadpool gets along famously with his alternate until he discovers that alt-Deadpool isn't Wade Wilson, it's [[spoiler:Victor Von Doom]]. Alt-Wade Wilson is a BigBad who Deadpool takes down. Bruce Banner discovers that he can't turn into the Hulk in this dimension and is overjoyed, until that gets reversed. Then alt-Hulk and Hulk duke it out.
** One nice example involving Deadpool has him inventing an imaginary version of himself (aka, he willed himself into having a split personality) while trapped inside a room for over 800 years (long story). Why did he do this? To have someone to play hangman with of course. His plan fails when the imaginary Deadpool turns out to be a genius and starts totally kicking Deadpool's ass in the game.
** When Gwenpool pulls different versions of herself from the timeline (as a metacommentary on [[DependingOnTheWriter her inconsistent personality]]) in ''[[ComicBook/TheUnbelievableGwenpool Gwenpool Strikes Back]]'' , the other Gwens are embarrassed by the Gwenpool from ''ComicBook/RocketRaccoon and ComicBook/{{Groot}}''.
* In ''ComicBook/{{PS238}},'' some of the characters go to a universe much like theirs, [[{{Mundanization}} but where metahumans don't exist]]. Victor, the genius scion of a supervillain family, is horrified to discover that his alternate self is a ''child pop star.'' (And this, right after mocking someone who likes Justin Bieber.) Similarly, Zodon not only has to deal with his counterpart ''hugging'' him, but getting Cecil's ''Franchise/StarTrek'' reference [[ProudToBeAGeek without even an ounce of shame]].
* In ''ComicBook/TheSandmanOverture'', the many different "aspects" of [[AnthropomorphicPersonification Dream]] are gathered together and immediately start arguing about whether they count as one person or many people. Two Dreams have this side conversation:
-->'''Dream 1:''' Am I always like this?\\
'''Dream 2:''' Like what?\\
'''Dream 1:''' Self-satisfied. Irritating. Self-possessed, and unwilling to concede center stage to anyone but myself.\\
'''Dream 2:''' I believe so, yes. In my experience.\\
'''Dream 1:''' Ah. Fascinating.
* The Creator/DCComics CrisisCrossover ''War of the Gods'' was about a fight between the Greek and Roman gods over who was the ''true'' Olympian Pantheon, with Comicbook/WonderWoman and [[Comicbook/{{Shazam}} Captain Marvel]] as their champions. (Even though the Big Red Cheese gets his half his powers from the Greeks, and only a third from the Romans.) The fallout from the later Crisis Crossover ''Genesis'' would reveal that this was a LiteralSplitPersonality that lasted millenia; the Greek gods created autonomous aspects of themselves to watch over the proto-Romans, and they diverged considerably.
* ''ComicBook/{{Zenith}}'': Zenith takes an instant dislike to his alternate universe self, Vertex, finding him to be smug and irritating. Ironically, our Zenith is the one who’s [[{{Jerkass}} a self-centered prick]], while Vertex is nothing but polite, friendly, and heroic. In other words, [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter he’s everything Zenith isn’t]].

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''Fanfic/ACrownOfStars'': In the first chapter Shinji and Asuka meet their future selves. Asuka found her older self quite irritating. Subverted with her counterpart of the “The Way out Is Through” universe. Rather annoying her, that timeline’s Asuka unsettled her… a lot.
* In ''Fanfic/AmazingFantasy'', [[OppositeSexClone Mistress Sinister's]] main problem with Mr. Sinister is that he allows his obsession with the Summers-Grey genes and fights with the X-Men get in the way of advancing research.
* ''Fanfic/TheSecondTry'': Discussed. Asuka thinks her younger self would hate her if she saw what she has become. Shinji argues she is being too hard on herself, and he mentions his younger self would surely be shocked.
* In the ComicBook/{{Supergirl}} fanfic ''Fanfic/HellsisterTrilogy'', ComicBook/LexLuthor of Earth-One can't stand his Earth-Two counterpart; as far as he's concerned, the other Luthor is an ingrate who hasn't gone through his same losses and is unable to appreciate how lucky he is.
-->"Listen now to Luthor of Earth-One," said Brainiac, whose face resembled nothing less than a metallic death's-head. "He shall be our field commander. We have the worlds within our grasp. It is our time, now."\\
"Wait one bloody second!", said one attendee, an older man with red hair. "Who appointed that second-rate lab-rat our spokesman?"\\
Lex Luthor of Earth-One turned, his warsuit primed for action. He recognized the voice. It was his Earth-Two counterpart, the older Luthor who had fought that Earth's Superman. His Man of Steel was dead now, killed in the Crisis. He had never lost his hair. He had never lost a wife or son. On top of that, he had even worked with the Earth-One Luthor, in a joint effort against the two Supermen.\\
The man was a damned ingrate, and Lex was fully in favor of wiping him out with an energy bolt.
* The ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' fanfic ''I Forgot I Was There'' plays this for serious drama: Twilight accidentally brings her reflection to life, and both Twilights severely resent each other from the very beginning. Their petty competition is the main focus of the fic.
* ''Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesTheSeries'' has an episode wherein ThePrankster Socrates is cloned, and he quickly finds his clone to be very irritating.
* Happens with [[spoiler:Maya and Miho]] meet in ''FanFic/TheDimensionhoppers'' (technically they are counterparts of each other).
* In the ''Film/StarTrek2009'' fanfic ''Fanfic/WrittenInTheStars'', Fem-Kirk gets the spirit of her counterpart stuck inside her head. {{Hilarity|Ensues}} [[ShipperOnDeck regarding the]] [[HeIsNotMyBoyfriend subject of Spock]] ensues.
-->'''Kirk:''' Well, excuse me, Miss Know-It-All.\\
'''Kirk Prime:''' That's Mrs. Know-It-All to you. Recall I'm a married woman.\\
'''Kirk:''' How could I forget? [[TheSpock Your husband's]] a true Mr. Know-It-All.\\
'''Kirk Prime:''' It's fun having my sense of humour thrown back at me. If a little annoying.\\
'''Kirk:''' Just shut up!
* In ''Fanfic/ForgivenessIsTheAttributeOfTheStrong'', a My Hero Academia fanfiction, young All for One travels forward in time and meets his adult self. It's mutual hate at first sight.
* ''Fanfic/TheInfiniteLoops'':
** This is how [[Franchise/SpyroTheDragon Classic Spyro]] and [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfSpyro Legend's Spryo]] tend to act around each other. They've gotten better about it... ''mostly''.
** Tends to happen a lot when a looper hears about their baseline self's less-than-stellar behavior, since they've often matured over time but the baseline hasn't. For example, the looping version of [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Diamond Tiara]] has long since outgrown her childish bullying antics and befriended the CMC, so hearing how her baseline non-looping self pulled some particularly low trick on them really gets to her. Twilight Sparkle isn't too impressed with her past self on most occasions, either, thanks to Show Twilight being an IdiotHero.
** This can be particularly horrifying for a Looper if their baseline self is ''evil'', either because they're a villain who underwent a HeelFaceTurn during the Loops, or -- more rarely, but not unheard of -- a hero whose baseline self underwent a FaceHeelTurn during an Expansion. The latter was the case with [[spoiler: [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} James Ironwood]]]], whose canon actions after [[spoiler:Volume 7]] were so horrible that his Looping self underwent a HeroicBSOD after experiencing the Expansion loop, and no longer considers the two of them to even be the same person.
* Though it happens off screen, the backstory timeline for ''Fanfic/TheBridge'' shows an encounter between two different incarnations of Godzilla. While it is subverted in the sense they aren't the exact same individual, they do have the same powers, similar appearance; and the same title. One is the grown up Godzilla Junior from the Heisei series, who is a GentleGiant unless defending what he cares for and goes out of his way to protect humanity. The other is the revived [[Film/GodzillaMothraKingGhidorahGiantMonstersAllOutAttack 1954 Godzilla]], a ChaoticEvil monstrosity who kills everything in his path. When they met it was this trope turned violent and cranked UpToEleven. Take a [[UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny wild guess how their encounter went]]. [[spoiler: With some aid from Anguirus and Gamera, Junior killed his predecessor.]]
* In ''Fanfic/TheTwoSidesOfDaringDo'', AK Yearling gets annoyed and jealous of her clone who is stronger and a better fighter than her and can get through ancient traps more easily. It gets to the point where she gives up and decides her clone deserves to be the real Daring Do. [[spoiler:They make peace at the end, when they acknowledge they each deserve to live, and the clone needs her help to survive in the real world which is a lot different than the idealized world of the Daring Do novels.]]
* ''Fanfic/PonyPOVSeries'':
** During a VisionQuest, Applejack meets her counterpart Orangejack, and they argue and briefly fight. Applejack is annoyed that Orangejack abandoned the farm to become a business pony, and got a loving husband and children out of it. Orangejack is annoyed that Applejack stayed on the farm and basically did nothing with her life except being a farmer, and got to become a hero and have lots of friends. They make peace when they realize they are similar with how they feel about their loved ones.
** Diamond Tiara's mother Golden Tiara gets shown a vision of her alternate universe counterpart [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS5E19CrusadersOfTheLostMark Spoiled Rich]]. Golden Tiara is first comically horrified by Spoiled Rich's botched nose job, then is angered and disgusted by how vain and selfish Spoiled Rich is and how horribly she treats her daughter. The being who showed her the vision then summons duplicates of both Spoiled Rich and Golden Tiara's insane persona Screwball. Golden Tiara beats both of them into submission while vowing to never become like either of them.
* ''Fanfic/AftermathOfTheGames'': Puppy Spike and Dragon Spike can't stand each other. Every time they interact, it leads to an argument, whether it's over the benefits of each other's species, who was cuter as an infant, or whose crush is prettier.
* ''Fanfic/BrokenBow'': When Armani and Selene first meet each other, they immediately get into a fight. However, once matters are straightened out, they get along well enough.
* An interesting example of this occurs from both perspectives in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/1657008/cutflowers cutflowers]]' ''Series/HannahMontana'' "Amiss" trilogy (Looking at a world where Miley was unable to undo the wish she made that she would be Hannah all the time); Miley attempted to make friends with the Lilly Truscott of her new world, but alt-Lilly ended up blackmailing her out of ten million dollars. The fic begins when the 'original' Lilly is able to make her own wish to join Miley in the other world, and is horrified at how shallow her other self is, having left her family and ruined her friendship with Oliver just to be rich, to the extent that Lilly privately reflects that she would kill her other self if they ever met. Back in the original world, alt-Lilly is initially annoyed at having to rebuild her reputation from scratch and feels that her other self wasted too many opportunities to establish Lola as an independent celebrity rather than just Hannah's eccentric friend, but over time she undergoes a HeelRealization as she realises what she did to Miley.
* An odd variation of this occurs in "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13164815/1/Lucifer-Reacts-to-Supernatural Lucifer Reacts to Supernatural]]", which looks at Lucifer and Ella Lopez (''Series/Lucifer2016'') watching the fourth season onwards of ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' together, with Lucifer often commenting that he truly hates his fictional counterpart for such acts as manipulating Nick (Lucifer's vessel in the show) into saying "Yes" by basically using the murder of Nick's wife and child.
* In the ''Series/OnceUponATime''/''Film/{{Descendants}}'' crossover "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11611041/1/Villains-and-Happy-Endings Villains and Happy Endings]]", Regina makes her contempt for Grimhilde clear, to the extent that Evie and the other 'Villain Kids' briefly wonder if Regina's Evie's future self rather than her mother's counterpart given that Cora sounds more like Grimhilde than Regina does.
* When the Turtles, April, Casey and Karai of [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012 the 2012 series]] are transported to the reality of [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 the 2003 series]] in "[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/21580636 TMNT Turtles together and forever]]", 2012 Karai makes it clear to the 2003 turtles that she doesn't share her counterpart's veneration of the Shredder, displeased that her counterpart is still loyal to his memory even after his near-destruction of reality.
* Essentially deconstructed in "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13496321/1/Star-Wars-Legends-Never-Die Star Wars: Legends Never Die]]" when Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade of ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends'' find themselves in the events of ''Film/TheForceAwakens''. While Legends!Luke admires ideas like rotating the New Republic capital to different planets, seeing him gets Han and Leia wondering what they did "wrong" since Luke's equivalent of Ben never fell to the Dark Side, and the two versions of R2-D2 get briefly competative regarding which of them has achieved the more impressive accomplishment.
* "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14023717/1/The-Apocalypse-is-here The Apocalypse is here]]" is a large-scale crossover between the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse and ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' which features a range of doppelgangers coming to the main universe after an attack by Apocalypse disrupts the dimensional barriers. When Steve Rogers and Tony Stark meet Johnny Storm (''Film/FantasticFour2005''), Tony observes that the young man is essentially Rogers with Tony's attitude, Steve reflecting that they would not have gotten along if Rogers had been like Johnny.
* When Film/{{Maleficent}} meets her ''Descendants'' counterpart in "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13414681/1/Maleficent-and-Descendants-A-mother-s-love Maleficent and Descendants: A mother's love]]", she is disgusted at the pettiness of her counterpart's motives and the way she treated Mal, as she would give anything to have a daughter and her other self was cruel to the child she did have out of nothing but a desire for revenge over a relatively minor slight.
* Used to chilling extent in the ''Theatre/{{Wicked}}'' fanfic ''Fanfic/TheLandOfWhatMightHaveBeen'', when Elphaba and others find themselves in an alternate universe where the key divergence is that the Elphaba of this reality was subjected to a complex surgery that gave her a normal appearance, but at the cost of driving her utterly insane, fixated on the idea that she only became 'good' when she became beautiful, and thus determined to force others to become beautiful even if that means corrupting their minds. While Elphaba and the Empress are basically at war from the moment they learn that the other exists, Glinda and Dorothy are disturbed to realise what happened to them in this new world but Glinda accepts it and Dorothy [[spoiler:ends up killing her insane counterpart in their final confrontation]]. As for Dorothy's companions, Fiyero's counterpart dies before he learns the full nature of their current situation and the Cowardly Lion actually ends up forming a fairly positive bond with his counterpart; only Boq's relationship with his other self can be easily defined as 'annoyance', as [[spoiler:Doctor Kiln]] observes the various ways in which the Tin Woodman has missed so many chances to be better in his past, even as he encourages his other self to try and improve ''now''.
* ''Fanfic/RainbowDoubleDashsLunaverse:'' ''Crisis on Two Equestrias'' has the Lunaverse Trixie and Twilight Sparkle run into their show counterparts. L-Trixie thinks her show counterpart is an obnoxious ham, show-Trixie in turn thinks she's a pampered layabout who [[YouAreFat could use some exercise]]. Show-Twilight is initially not ''too'' hostile to her Lunaverse counterpart, until she insults Clover the Clever, but L-Twilight thinks she's just as bad as her (L-Twilight having become a fugitive for mild misuse of illegal magic) on account of the "Want-It, Need-It" incident. They do, eventually, get over this. [[spoiler:After nearly being killed by a equicidal alicorn created by their bickering.]]
* ''Fanfic/InfinityCrisis'':
** In ''Different Strokes'', when Slade of the Arrowverse confronts his Earth-51 counterpart, the two quickly get on each other's nerves, Earth-51 Slade dismissing his counterpart as unable to understand his full potential and Slade angry that his other self is only in the game for the money without any interest in something more despite them both having lost their families. It is also suggested that Oliver would have a similar reaction to his counterpart, as Earth-51 Slade muses that his version of Green Arrow would be "cracking stupid jokes and going on liberal rants" during a fight.
** A minor example in ''Legacy of Lightning'': Team Flash disagree with Barry-Blue's request to deal with his Reverse-Flash on his own, but respect his right to handle his problems his way.
** A more serious example occurs in ''Counterpart Conferences'', when a variation of the Franchise/DCAnimatedUniverse Joker kills his [[Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse Earth-51]] counterpart, denouncing the other Joker as having lost his way as he is no longer a 'true' Joker but just an intimidating thug.
** Later in ''Counterpart Conferences'', while Regina of ''Series/OnceUponATime'' doesn't directly meet her ''Film/{{Descendants}}'' counterpart, she reflects that she knows what type of person the Queen is, and advises Evie to focus on being herself rather than trying to be a legacy for her mother.
** In the same chapter, Morgan Le Fay has altered her appearance (to now look like Creator/ElizabethHurley in ''Series/Runaways2017'') as she wanted to rid herself of the memories of her "weaker half" (having previously split herself from her old 'disguise' of Lena Luthor in ''Of Kryptonians and Queens'').
** Also in ''Counterpart Conferences'', the DCAU Batman meets and is disgusted by his [[Series/CrisisOnInfiniteEarths2019 Earth-99]] counterpart and [[HeWhoFightsMonsters how far he's fallen]]. He gives him a prolonged TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, before beating him in a fight and sending him to the Phantom Zone.
** In Chapter 8 of ''Counterpart Conferences'', three versions of Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl (from [[Series/LegendsOfTomorrow Earth-1]], [[Series/Stargirl2020 Earth-2]], and [[Series/{{Smallville}} Earth 167]]) meet each other and immediately butt heads over differing attitudes towards superheroing, though they later reconcile as they realize that they have more in common than not. [[spoiler: In the same chapter, Merlin (from the [[Series/Merlin2008 BBC series]]) and Nimue (from ''Series/{{Cursed}}'') also meet and discuss each other's counterparts across the multiverse.]]
* In the Marvel/Ultimate Marvel crossover ''Fanfic/AvengingTheUltimate'', while neither expressly state it, it is clear that 616-Steve Rogers disapproves of his more hardline Ultimate counterpart, informing his other self that Spider-Man is one of the best people he knows even if Ultimate Cap dismissed him as another foolish child.
** Also applies by proxy for 616-Hank Pym, who quickly becomes annoyed at how the Ultimates act as though he's automatically as bad as his counterpart just because they're both Hank Pym.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim'' fanfic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13488673/1/When-Gamers-Collide When Gamers Collide]]'', a couple of random accidents in their respective universes cause the version of [[GamerChick Gaz]] from the original cartoon and the one from the [[ComicBook/InvaderZimOni continuation comics]] and [[WesternAnimation/InvaderZimEnterTheFlorpus movie]] to meet in a PocketDimension. At first, they get along pretty well, but since the comic/movie version has had more CharacterDevelopment, she grows to be disgusted by the show version's [[MisanthropeSupreme general attitude]], while the show Gaz comes to see her counterpart as being soft and wimpy. This leads to an argument that ends with the two coming to blows.
** In Season 2 Episode 7 of ''Fanfic/TheNewAdventuresOfInvaderZim'' (by the same author as the above), Dib, Zim, Tak, and their respective teams are accidentally transported to a MirrorUniverse and meet their counterparts there, and ''none'' of them are pleased. Dib and the twins are morally disgusted by their counterparts' supervillain natures, while Zim and Tak are similarly disgusted by their counterparts being friendly and trying to help Earth instead of conquering it. Furthermore, [[ConsummateProfessional Tenn]] is offended by her counterpart's laziness, while [[BombThrowingAnarchists Nyx]] is furious at her counterpart being a bland corporate drone.
* In ''Fanfic/DestinyIsAHazyThing'', Naruto gets a glimpse at his canon life and is appalled by how reckless and idiotic his alternate self is, declaring that he should have died dozens of times and only got by on pure luck.
* In the penultimate chapter of ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13157026/18/Eternal-Fantasy Eternal Fantasy]]'', Harry uses a magic device that gives him a glimpse of his life without the transition. He sees a fat Dudley bullying him, a fully human Hermione ragging on him for allegedly cheating at Quidditch, and himself and Draco fighting to the death. Harry's outright horrified and insists the magic device (which could change the world back to canon) go away and never show him such things again.
* ''Fanfic/FateHaremAntics'': Jeanne Alter hates the original Jeanne d'Arc for being a goody two shoes. Since Saber looks like and acts similar to the original Jeanne, Jeanne Alter becomes obsessed with destroying her.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6325752/1/Better-than-you Better Than You]]'', ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated'' Shockwave ends up in ''WesternAnimation/TheTransformers'' universe, and is forced to spend the entire day with his G1 counterpart. The two repeatedly butt heads with each other, although they seem to have developed some level of respect for each other by the end.
* In the Gravity Falls Flipside AU, there's a story called "Double Backflip-side" in which a Stanford Pines from another dimension ends up in the Flipside one, and the main Ford actually ends up calling him out for his treatment of Stan (link here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/24803338/chapters/59985742).
* In the ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'' story, ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12991211/1/Are-You-a-Friend-Too Are You a Friend, Too?]]'', for the most part, the main characters get along fairly well with their ''Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa'' counterparts, except for Dedede. Video Game!Dedede thinks of his counterpart as a moronic oaf who reminds him way too much of his [[IHatePastMe past self]], while Anime!Dedede gets pissed when Video Game!Dedede insults him and can't understand his friendship with Kirby.
* In the ''Webcomic/SwitcherooAU'' page "[[https://tapas.io/episode/1682854 Extras]]", canon!Pearl finds Switcharoo!Pearl unnerving. Averted with the Spinels, who get along just fine.
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13967499/1/A-Different-Kind-of-War A Different Kind of War]]'': The casts of several of [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/6039390/Parcasious Parcasious']] ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' fics are pulled into another world by a mysterious entity and ordered to go to war. To motivate them, the entity kills one version of Shirou Emiya to make an example of him and to demonstrate that if a Shirou dies, his world and everyone from it is erased from existence. Several of the Shirous, especially the ones from ''Fanfic/TheVastoOfWhite'' and ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11845255/1/The-Holy-Man-of-The-Church-Creek The Holy Man of the Church Creek]]'', see no way out and lead their factions in war, determined to survive. The casts of ''Fanfic/FateKill'' are among the only ones trying to make alliances with other casts, welcoming the casts of ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13623502/1/Fate-Sword-Order Fate: Sword Order]]'' and then the original ''Fate/stay night'' when they arrive later. When the original Shirou learns what is going on, he is infuriated that any version of himself would just give up and start killing others just to survive instead of working together to try to beat the entity or at least TakeAThirdOption.

* ''Series/BabylonFive'': When Dr. Franklin takes a leave of absence to work out his addiction to stims, he embarks on a spiritual exercise inspired by Australian Aboriginals called a "walkabout", [[ItMakesSenseInContext where on the premise that he has lost "himself", he wanders until he runs into himself, and can have a lengthy conversation working out their differences and subsequently reunite with himself again.]] A few episodes later, he gets stabbed in Downbelow, and as he lies bleeding on the verge of death he literally sees "himself"--and that self gives him a ReasonYouSuckSpeech chastising him sternly for always running away from his problems, with this "walkabout" being one more example of that. He later remarks to Garibaldi that he did indeed "run into himself", and found he didn't like him very much.
* ''Franchise/{{Buffyverse}}'':
** ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'':
*** In "[[Recap/BuffyTheVampireSlayerS3E16Doppelgangland Doppelgangland]], Vamp Willow thought that the regular Willow was too wimpy, and regular Willow thought Vamp Willow was too skanky and evil.
---->'''Willow:''' It's horrible. That's me as a vampire? I'm so evil, and skanky... and [[HilariousInHindsight I think I'm kinda gay.]] \\
'''Buffy:''' Willow, just remember, a vampire's personality has nothing to do with the person it was. \\
'''Angel:''' Well, actually--''(Buffy [[DeathGlare glares]] at him)'' ...that's a good point.
*** In "[[Recap/BuffyTheVampireSlayerS5E3TheReplacement The Replacement]]", the Xander who seems to the audience to be regular Xander is annoyed at the suave, confident Xander, but [[spoiler:it is ultimately revealed that they are both the "real" Xander, just split into two distinct forms. One Xander is assertive, self-confident and suave, the other is panicky and self-critical]].
** When Angelus returns on ''Series/{{Angel}}'' we eventually discover how annoying the vampire with a soul is to his alter ego. The fact Angelus had to endure rescuing puppies and listening to Barry Manilow completely drives him up the wall, much to [[DarkActionGirl Faith]]'s amusement.
* In the Season 2 finale of ''Series/{{Continuum}}'', Alec travels back in time to save his girlfriend's life. In Season 3, the Alec of the new timeline inherits his father's company and learns said girlfriend has a secret past. New Timeline Alec sees Original Alec as a naive romantic fool; Original Alec sees New Timeline Alec as a power-hungry sellout. [[spoiler: They end up trying to kill each other]].
* ''Series/DoctorWho'' can play this trope straight or avert it, depending on the story. Many multi-Doctor stories feature current and past regenerations bickering with each other. As a show primarily about time travel, there are plenty of examples of this trope between different incarnations of The Doctor, The Master and other supporting characters, which can be found in its own folder above.
* On ''Series/{{Dollhouse}},'' [[ReluctantMadScientist Topher]] imprints his personality onto Victor. The two bond a bit fanboying over how hot [[HotScientist Bennett]] is, but when they actually meet the two quickly get on each other's nerves, talking over each other.
* In ''Series/TheFlash2014'', some characters end up facing their doubles from parallel Earths. Not all of them get along, such as Cisco/Vibe from Earth 1 not getting along too well with his evil double Cisco/Reverb from Earth 2, and Caitlin from Earth 1 disliking her EvilIsSexy version from Earth 2, calling herself Killer Frost. There's also Harrison Wells from Earth 2, who tries to help Cisco and Caitlin find a double to replace him, and ends up disliking several versions of himself from other worlds, including "H.R." from Earth 19. When Harry and H.R. meet up later, Harry is downright hostile, annoyed that there's a version of him that's not a brilliant scientist. He's dumbfounded that Team Flash chooses to keep H.R., even though the latter does prove his worth in the same episode with a totally non-scientific observation that everyone else missed.
* On ''Series/{{Friends}}'', Rachel dates Russ, a guy who's remarkably like Ross. Ross finds him completely annoying, being totally unaware that he's basically criticizing himself.
* ''Series/{{Fringe}}'':
** Walter and Olivia do '''not''' like their counterparts in the alternate universe. Walter doesn't like Walternate, because basically, Walternate was hellbent on destroying our universe (and also reminds Walter of how succesful Walter could have been, had he not been institutionalized). Walternate doesn't like Walter because Walter kidnapped his son and caused significant damage to the alternate universe. Olivia doesn't like Fauxlivia because Fauxlivia basically took over her life, committed several murders and slept with Peter, while she was forcibly implanted with Fauxlivia's memories and thought she was her, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and Fauxlivia is annoyed with Olivia because Olivia's general demeanor is not as upbeat as Fauxlivia's]].
** Both versions of Agent Lincoln Lee, on the other hand, really get along. The main difference between their personalities is that "main" universe Lee is an introvert and a bit nerdy while "alternate" Lee is an extravert and more confident. They have fun trying to compare their early lives to see what made them turn out so different.
** There is ''a lot'' of variations on this on ''Fringe'' due to characters meeting their counterparts. One episode involved hunting down a serial killer with the help of his alternate counterpart (who happened to be an expert criminal profiler). The episode hinged on the ForWantOfANail divergence between the two men.
* ''Series/{{Kaamelott}}'': A minor example, where [[TheFool Perceval]] somehow manages to clone himself with Merlin's magic. TheStinger has him introduce the clone to Arthur saying "[[HypocriticalHumor But for some reason, he's a real dumbass.]]"
* ''Series/LivingWithYourself'' has Miles and clone!Miles hating each other for different reasons. Miles angrily yells at him ruining the moment.]]
* ''Series/Loki2021'': The protagonist Loki, having watched years of CharacterDevelopment of his main timeline self in minutes and then getting even more himself, including falling in love for the first time, looks embarassed and annoyed watching a bunch of Loki Variants [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder backstab]] each other for a pointless throne.
* This is referenced in ''Series/MurderSheWrote'' where fictionalized characters closely resemble real people but with negative characterization. Anger ensues.
** A similar plotline in an episode of ''The Father Dowling Mysteries'', in which a novelist adapts one of Father Dowling's cases as a book. Dowling's {{Expy}} is depicted as a brawling Irish stereotype, while the nun standing in for the normally tomboyish Sister Stevie repeatedly faints at the sight of blood. Sister Stevie describes her as "a wimp in a wimple".
* [=McGee=], of ''Series/{{NCIS}}'', wrote a novel somewhat based on [[WriteWhatYouKnow people he knew]]. As each member of the team learned about how their counterpart was portrayed, they took offense at the idea. Tim made it ''very'' clear that the fictional versions weren't the same, but almost everyone said [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial methinks thou doth protest too much.]] Except Gibbs, who didn't mind because "Special Agent Tibbs" was [[MemeticBadass awesomeness incarnate]], [[ILoveTheDead did not have sex with cadavers]], and was not shipped with the counterpart of another agent because [[ShipperOnDeck McGee thought they'd make a nice couple]].
* ''Series/TheOuterLimits1995'': In "In Another Life", both the project manager and killer versions of Mason Stark dislike the Eigenphase Industries CEO Mason.
* ''Series/{{Parallax}}'': Comes up most promenantly with Ben's best friend Francis, who early on cannot stand his counterpart. This is partially out of jealousy that his counterpart is considerably more outgoing than he is, partially out of seeing running into other selves as "like looking at a mirror, only it talks back", and mostly because Francis 'Thief' is at least initially a cheerful thief and liar.
* ''Series/RedDwarf'':
** In "[[Recap/RedDwarfSeasonIIParallelUniverse Parallel Universe]]", Cat is pretty excited to meet his alternate dimension counterpart as he thinks it will be a female cat person - it turns out to be a male ''dog'' person.
*** Rimmer, contrarily, came to hate his counterpart because they were ''too much'' alike - she displayed the same creepy sexual behavior Lister called male-Rimmer on earlier in the episode - only directed toward him.
** This happens to Rimmer several times. When he has Holly make a copy of himself, they hate each other so much that Lister is forced to delete the duplicate. After being stranded on a terraforming world and creating some clones for company, they build their society around his weaselly, petty, and cowardly traits and throw him in the dungeon for not being awful enough. When he meets his parallel-universe self [[TheAce Ace Rimmer]], Rimmer resents him for being so brave, competent, and handsome (and thereby countering Rimmer's belief that he couldn't help but turn out to be such a smeghead). The disgust is mutual, and after Ace leaves for more dimensional exploration a text-over states that he never finds a Rimmer as loathsome as this one.
* {{Subverted}} in a ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' Weekend Update segment featuring a point/counterpoint argument between Creator/JerrySeinfeld AsHimself and Creator/JimmyFallon as a second Jerry Seinfeld. At first Jerry 1 is visibly irritated by the second Jerry (who disagrees with him about the merits of The Gap), but the two quickly become delighted with each other and end the segment by adjourning to catch a movie.
-->'''Jerry Seinfeld:''' You're funny!\\
'''Jerry Seinfeld 2:''' So are you! So are you!\\
'''Colin Quinn:''' Hey, uh, fellas, you seem to have found a lot of common ground. Perhaps in the future we shouldn't have a person debate himself.\\
'''Jerry Seinfeld:''' But—but he makes a good point!\\
'''Jerry Seinfeld 2:''' I like what this guy has to say!
* {{Inverted}} and then played straight in ''Series/{{Seinfeld}}'' when Jerry falls for his DistaffCounterpart, Jeannie Steinman. He's initially obsessed with her [[BirdsOfAFeather because her personality and interests are indistinguishable from his]] ("I've been waiting for me to come along and now I've swept myself off my feet!"), but, shortly after impulsively proposing to her, realizes that [[TooMuchAlike his own characteristics severely grate on him after long exposure]]. [[spoiler:It's resolved in the following episode when [[SpeakInUnison they both blurt out that they hate each other at the same time]], in what Jerry speculates may be the first truly mutual breakup in history.]]
-->'''Jerry:''' All of a sudden it hit me, I realized what the problem is: I can't be with someone like me. I ''hate myself!''
* A constant on ''Series/{{Sliders}}''. Every member of the team has met at least one (or five) alternate versions of themselves on different Earths who they can't stand. They range from a Quinn who's a corrupt "mathalete" to an Arturo who tries to take his double's place to a ditzy Wade to an arrogant Rembrandt and more. And that's not counting the versions who are flat-out evil.
* ''Franchise/{{Stargate|Verse}}'':
** In the ''Series/StargateAtlantis'' episode "[[Recap/StargateAtlantisS03E08McKayAndMrsMiller McKay and Mrs. Miller]]", an alternate universe version of Rodney [=McKay=] appears. This version is charming, extraverted and socially skilled. The regular Rodney ends up disliking him because everyone seems to like him better. At the end of the episode Teyla, Sheppard, and Ronan reveal that they weren't terribly fond of the alt-universe Rodney, either. Interestingly, "Rod" actually envies Rodney, claiming that the latter doesn't care what people think about him, while the former is too socially-conscious to do that.
** In an episode of ''Series/StargateUniverse'', Doctor Rush gets sent back in time through "a freak of physics" and warns everyone that the very risky plan they were about to attempt was going to fail miserably. The non-time-travelling Rush (who's been very vocal about the risks inherent in the plan) is very smug about this, to the point of completely disregarding time-travelling Rush's ordeal. Time-travelling Rush is not impressed.
* ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'':
** The premise of "[[Recap/StarTrekS1E5TheEnemyWithin The Enemy Within]]" involves Kirk being duplicated, with his personality split between the two bodies. Naturally, each of his halves despises the other.
** The ultimate example of this trope comes in "[[Recap/StarTrekS1E27TheAlternativeFactor The Alternative Factor]]". The prime universe version of Lazarus despises his alternate-universe self and wants him dead, even if he destroys all of reality in the process. For his part, the alternate Lazarus was perfectly happy to live in harmony with his counterpart until said counterpart became obsessed with destroying him.
* ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'':
** In "[[Recap/StarTrekVoyagerS7E18AuthorAuthor Author, Author]]", this happens to ''every'' character when they see the Doctor's holoplay "Photons Be Free", since he portrays them as anti-holographic racists. He relents and changes the characters to not be so obviously stand-ins for his real life friends after Tom "revises" the program to paint the ''Doctor'' as an arrogant and unethical {{Jerkass}} so he sees how offensive his first draft was.
** There was surprisingly little argument in "[[Recap/StarTrekVoyagerS2E21Deadlock Deadlock]]", because each Captain Janeway knew what the other would do in their situation, though there was an argument about being MoreHeroThanThou. The conflict comes in "[[Recap/StarTrekVoyagerS7E23Endgame Endgame]]", when Captain Janeway meets her future self Admiral Janeway, due to their different experiences and agendas.
** This happens when the Emergency Medical Hologram meets his identical-looking creator Dr Zimmerman (or a diagnostic program based on him, in an earlier episode). Of course, it doesn't help that Zimmerman is a DrJerk who regards the EMH Mark One as an embarrassing failure.
** In one episode, B'Elanna is split into two separate people: a Klingon and a human. The Human B'Elanna is weak and fearful, while the Klingon B'Elanna is hyper-aggressive. Neither likes the other, but in the end, [[spoiler:the Klingon version is killed, while the human one is told that her body needs both sets of genes in order to survive, so she ends up being reintegrated]].

Troi tells them to relax and just take them as amusing homages, until she happens upon ''her'' alternate self -- a soppy "goddess" in love with Barclay. Riker immediately seizes the opportunity for an IronicEcho.
** In "[[Recap/StarTrekTheNextGenerationS4E16GalaxysChild Galaxy's Child]]", Geordi is excited to finally meet Dr. Leah Brahms, the designer of the Galaxy class engineering systems seen as a hologram in the earlier episode "Booby Trap", as she's here for an inspection. During her visit, she encounters her holographic self, repeating that episode's closing lines [[InnocentInnuendo "Every time you look at this engine, you're looking at me. Every time you touch it, it's me."]] She feels understandably violated, and at that point, nothing La Forge could say would convince her that he didn't do more than collaborate with her holo-self.
** "Second Chances" is basically an entire episode of this trope, alternating between FutureMeScaresMe ''and'' IHatePastMe. Riker discovers that a transporter accident duplicated him seven or eight years ago, he got out, the other him was stranded on a planet they were surveying, and despite all of this, both men are equally William T. Riker. Riker is annoyed by the youthful attitudes and social difficulties of the other. The other Riker chafes at seeing the man who had the career he should have had and who gave up the woman he still loves (Troi).
** In "Time Squared", the ''Enterprise'' picks up a shuttlecraft carrying an alternate Picard from six hours in the future, in a timeline where the ''Enterprise'' was destroyed and everyone else was killed.
There's also Harrison Wells from Earth 2, who tries to help Cisco and Caitlin find a double to replace him, and ends up disliking
several versions of himself from other worlds, including "H.R." from Earth 19. When Harry potential futures, among them Good (embodied by [[http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Knight_Day_Grepher Knight Day Grepher]]) and H.R. meet up later, Harry is downright hostile, annoyed that there's a version of him that's not a brilliant scientist. He's dumbfounded that Team Flash chooses to keep H.R., even though the latter does prove his worth Evil (embodied by [[http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Lucius_LV4 Dark Lucious]]). As seen in the same episode with a totally non-scientific observation that everyone else missed.

card [[http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Different_Dimension_Encounter Different Dimension Encounter]] (where both Knight Day Grepher and Olivia do '''not''' like their counterparts in the alternate universe. Walter Dark Lucious confront each other) each clearly doesn't like Walternate, because basically, Walternate was hellbent on destroying our universe (and also reminds Walter of how succesful Walter could have been, had he not been institutionalized).
The main difference between their personalities is
revelation that "main" universe Lee is an introvert and a bit nerdy while "alternate" Lee is an extravert and more confident. They have fun trying to compare their early lives to see what made them turn out so different.
** There is ''a lot'' of variations on
this on ''Fringe'' due to characters meeting their counterparts. One episode involved hunting down a serial killer with the help of his alternate opposing counterpart (who happened to be an expert criminal profiler).
* ''Series/RedDwarf'':
-->'''Jerry Seinfeld:''' You're funny!\\
'''Jerry Seinfeld 2:''' So are you! So are you!\\

* ''Franchise/{{Stargate|Verse}}'':
* ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'':
* ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'':

* ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' video games tend to have [[FutureBadass Future Trunks]] displaying varying degrees of annoyance with his main timeline counterpart, mainly due to the fact that Kid Trunks is something of a SpoiledBrat (while Future Trunks, who grew up in an AfterTheEnd hellhole, is well-mannered and pragmatic). Before becoming allies, Hayate considered her CardCarryingVillain of a twin to be an utter pest while Lord Dearche completely despises Hayate's very being. After becoming allies however, Hayate tries to connect with her duplicate much like Nanoha and Fate did, while Lord Dearche... still hates everything related to Hayate, so Hayate alternates between trying to become friends with her and outright {{Troll}}ing her.
* Whenever there are two versions of Bowser in a [[Franchise/SuperMarioBrothers Mario RPG]], expect this trope to come into play. ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'' mixes this trope with MyFutureSelfAndMe when Baby Bowser and adult Bowser meet, but ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPaperJam'' plays it more straight with [[VideoGame/PaperMario Paper Bowser]] and [[VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi "regular" Bowser]]. The Kameks from the two worlds also find each others' laugh to be annoying ([[HypocriticalHumor even though it's completely identical]]).
* In ''VideoGame/MassEffect2'', Commander Shepard, who by this point is FamedInStory because of the events of [[VideoGame/MassEffect1 the first game]], is told about a VI (an artificial not-all-that-intelligence, much like a computerized personal assistant) modeled after him/her. In the third game, s/he can actually find one and it promptly begins throwing out dialogue tangentially related to Shepard's imported [[KarmaMeter reputation]], boasting that it can predict the real Shepard's responses with ''7%'' accuracy. If anything, the real Shepard is [[DoIReallySoundLikeThat horrified that it might be that high]].
** Likewise in ''VideoGame/MassEffect3: Citadel'', [[spoiler: the clone of Shepard is roundly mocked for ''not'' being Shepard both [[PlayedForDrama dramatically]] (s/he doesn't really understand the concept of [[TrueCompanions a team]]) and [[PlayedForLaughs comically]] (s/he co-opts Shepard's {{catchphrase}} "I should go", to the latter's consternation).]]
* In ''VideoGame/Portal2''[='=]s Perpetual Testing Initative DLC, Cave Johnson is annoyed by most of his alt-universe counterparts, calling them 'backwater universe yokels' and developing a rivalry with Dark Cave.
** Though the latter case is inverted later on:
--->'''Cave Prime:''' ''[laughs]'' Oh, Dark Cave, you are the only one around here who gets me.
* In ''{{VideoGame/Prey|2017}}'', [[RobotBuddy January]] ranges from dismissive to outright hostile towards its alternative counterparts, especially December. This also verges on IHatePastMe as all the Operators including January were created by Morgan Yu who was suffering from a repeating case of [[AmnesiacHero amnesia]] and came up with mutually-contradictory plans after every reset. January just appears to be the most recent version.
* ''VideoGame/RatchetAndClankRiftApart'': [[HarmlessVillain Dr. Nefarious]] does not get along well with his [[AlternateUniverseReedRichardsIsAwesome vastly more competent]] alternate universe self, [[KnightOfCerebus Emperor Nefarious]], seeing him as an arrogant {{Jerkass}} who's never had to face a real challenge. Emperor Nefarious gladly returns the favor, scorning Dr. Nefarious as a pathetic loser. [[BothSidesHaveAPoint They're both right about each other.]]
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss'' has a very interesting and spoiler filled take on the trope: [[spoiler:Asch the Bloody is the original Luke fon Fabre and sees his replica as this trope because he doesn't accept him as his own person.]]
* ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'': Everything your "Future You" says in the quest "Mysteries of the Infinite" is a direct attack on the player. Never mind the fact that you're both wearing the same kind of equipment... and that the NPC comments on your "old gear." Of course, you can later get revenge of sorts when you get to repeat the quest at level 80 and be the "Future You" for now "Past You." Past you also comments on how much better your gear has gotten.... despite visually wearing the same gear. (Especially if you go back in the future wearing equipment that your past self not only has not yet acquired, but cannot wear at his or her level.)

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony'' has this in the post-game “Ultimate Talent Development Plan” mode. One possible event while playing Byakuya Togami’s route is running into the Ultimate Imposter, who just so happens to like impersonating Togami. Issue #1. Togami takes his family name very seriously. Issue #2. And Imposter is almost 300 pounds. Issue #3.
* In ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'', [[spoiler:Even though he is unaware of his true identity, Shirou]] has enormous problems getting along with [[spoiler:his future self, Archer (Counter Guardian EMIYA),]] on a purely instinctual level (although the great personality differences may have something to do with it too). The future version, on the other hand, has some ''very'' well thought-out reasons for [[IHatePastMe despising the other]].
** Ironically, the same thing comes up again in ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'' between [[spoiler:EMIYA and his [[FallenHero Alter self]]]] for the very same reasons. Specifically, [[spoiler:EMIYA Alter despises the fact that EMIYA has [[TookALevelInKindness become less of an asshole]] and isn't as hardened anymore]]. On a lighter note, [[spoiler:EMIYA doesn't actually give his Alter counterpart much mind beyond the fact that he wishes he came up with modifying his swords to be more like guns first]].
** In the ''All the Statesmen!'' event of ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'', the protagonist gets a chance to meet a darker version of their alternate self in the parody manga ''WebComic/LearningWithMangaFGO''. Despite presumably going through the same thing, the prime protagonist goes from getting annoyed about just how psychotically crazy their alternate self (called 'Nameless Master') is to reaching a breaking point when they realize just how abusive the Nameless Master is in treating their Servants (read: low levelled and weak, ignored for the sake of collecting the more rare Servants, to no avail)

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* ''WebAnimation/HowItShouldHaveEnded'' has the title character of ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan'' get irritated with the whiny Spidey from the 2000s ''Film/SpiderManTrilogy''.
* ''Machinima/RedVsBlue'':
** While exploring Caboose's mind as a ghost, Church encounters Caboose's mental image of Church and is incredibly annoyed by him.
** Later, Epsilon[[spoiler:-Church]] remarks that Alpha[[spoiler:-Church]] and the Director are each "kind of a dick". This, despite literally [[spoiler:being a copy of them]].
* ''WebAnimation/RWBYChibi'' had Ruby dreaming of encountering [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} the original Ruby]], though the "annoys" part only occurs when regular Ruby [[AndCallHimGeorge squeezes the Chibi one until she nearly passes out.]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* [[PlayedForDrama A very dark version]] appears in ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime''. Lemongrab has obvious self-esteem issues and appears to harbor a lot of self-loathing. He later meets an exact clone of himself, and they start off as very close friends, for over a year. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Lemongrab begins to grow annoyed by his counterpart, and this frustration soon spirals into full-blown loathing. He later [[spoiler:tortures and devours]] his clone, much to the horror of everyone who witnesses this.
* In ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'', the Gaang attend a play about themselves only to find that everyone has been extraordinarily {{Flanderiz|ation}}ed. Everyone is angry and embarrassed except for Toph (who's played by a huge beefy actor) and Sokka, once he corrals the actor backstage and offers suggestions to "improve" the show's humor.
* ''WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyond'':
** Terry takes Bruce to see ''Batman: The Musical'' for his birthday. Terry finds the jolly, musical Batman to be great fun. Bruce is... not impressed.
** This version of Bruce is also quite annoyed when he meets the younger version of himself in an episode of ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueUnlimited'' and sees the younger Batman hang a criminal over the edge of a building. "I can't believe I was ever this green," says the elder version. He takes his cane and moves towards the crook, threateningly. "''This'' is how you interrogate a perp."
* The ''WesternAnimation/Ben10'' episode "Ben 10,000" sees a mutual form of this. Ben is brought several years into the future to team up with an older version of himself. The problem is that while Present Ben is his usual immature but good-humoured self, Future Ben has unlocked many more aliens and better commands the Omnitrix, but has also become a [[IWorkAlone loner]] who's MarriedToTheJob and is now constantly brusque to the point of rudeness. So Present Ben sees Future Ben as a humourless jackass and Future Ben sees Present Ben as an irresponsible punk. Eventually they learn to get along, and it turns out Future Gwen's reasons for bringing Present Ben in was to get Future Ben to [[TookALevelInKindness unclench a little]].
* Attempted to be invoked by Mung against Gazpacho in ''WesternAnimation/{{Chowder}}'', who after moving in with the catering company following an argument with his mother becomes a nuisance, by feeding him a Multi-Rye Sandwich, which will make a clone that will annoy him to leave. [[SubvertedTrope It fails]], and Chowder tries to salvage by feeding Gazpacho and his clone ''more'' sandwiches, filling the kitchen with a herd of Gazpacho clones.
* ''WesternAnimation/CodeLyoko'', oh so many times.
** The most notable is in Triple Trouble, when Odd is split into three. They fight over who gets to go to lunch, and who has to go to PE class. They also ruin a joke by inadvertently repeating it.
** Another example is in X.A.N.A.'s Kiss. Odd complains to the clone he's fighting, telling it that if it's going to keep changing form, it should turn into a wimp next time. Its next form: Odd. In Revelation, another Polymorphic clone pulls a similar move on Ulrich, this time for strategy rather than mockery.
* Two ''WesternAnimation/DangerMouse'' instances:
** "Four Heads Are Better Than Two" is a zig-zag in that DM is paired with a robot duplicate of Penfold while Penfold is paired with a robot duplicate of DM, both as an experiment from Colonel K. Trouble is, the androids are more trouble with their peripheral partners than DM and Penfold are to themselves.
** "The Good, The Bad And The Motionless" has DM facing his evil alter-ego, a red-colored version of himself with a trident, devil horns and a devil tail. He sets out playing mind games with DM until our hero figures things out and beats the hell out of his devil clone within the mystic amphitheater of Stonehenge.
-->'''DM:''' I'm not going to be pushed around by two percent of me. Come down and put 'em up! (''balls up his fists'')\\
'''Evil DM:''' What? A fair fight? You have to be joking! (''evil laugh'')
* Towards the end of the ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'' episode ''WesternAnimation/DuckAmuck'', [[CameraScrew the frame shifts, leaving Daffy's top half on the bottom and bottom half on the top...]] inadvertently cloning Daffy. The two Daffys quickly [[TalkingToHimself start arguing with each other]]:
-->'''Bottom Daffy:''' ''Now'' what?!\\
'''Top Daffy:''' What are you doing down there?\\
'''Bottom Daffy:''' Down here? What are you doing up there? ''[to audience]'' Down here—\\
''[top Daffy snatches Bottom Daffy into the top frame, which then re-centers]''\\
'''Daffy Prime:''' Listen, bub, if you wasn't me, I'd smack you right in the puss!\\
'''Daffy Clone:''' Don't let ''that'' bother ya, Jack!\\
'''Daffy Prime:''' ''[[[ExactWords winding up]] a punch]'' Okay, buddy, you asked for it!\\
''[Daffy Clone gets erased just before Daffy throws his punch, making him miss wildly]''
* One episode in ''WesternAnimation/TheFlintstones'' had Fred wrongfully take the credit for a heroic act, only to have Wilma find out the truth and confront him with her disgust, ending with "I just hope you can live with yourself!" Suddenly, Fred is bothered by a duplicate of himself, who's even more annoying than he is, eating his food, telling bad jokes, and pulling nasty tricks like giving him an exploding cigar. After only a short time, Fred admits he ''can't'' live with himself, tells the duplicate to scram, and then confesses to everyone that Barney is the actual hero.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'':
** The main characters travel to an alternate dimension where the characters meet their counterparts and find them annoying despite being almost identical. Except for Bender, who being an [[ItsAllAboutMe egomaniac]] gets along with his counterpart just fine. The others eventually warm up to their duplicates, too.
** Then there was that time they went to the end of the universe and looked across to see their alternate, cowboy hat-wearing selves. Bender got tired of his alternate self flaunting the hat and decided to leave.
** In ''[[Recap/FuturamaM1BendersBigScore Bender's Big Score]]'':
*** [[spoiler:Fry is jealous of Lars' romance with Leela, not realizing that Lars is an older version of himself from another timeline. Or something; it's confusing]].
*** And even Bender proves he's not immune to this trope. Seconds after meeting himself, and apparently agreeing to a course of action, the second Bender arbitrarily decides to try and murder his future-self.
** Professor Farnsworth often finds his young clone Cubert annoying.
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}}'', [[EvilSorcerer the Archmage]] engages in a StableTimeLoop to save himself from his [[NoOneCouldSurviveThat apparent death]] and acquire ultimate magical power, thus for a while there are two of him at the same time. While it might have made sense for the two to stay together and combine their powers for an even greater advantage over their enemies...the Archmage's arrogance is of a brand that doesn't get along with itself. Despite having just ''been'' him not more than 24 hours previous (by his perspective), the "older" Archmage is annoyed and impatient with his past self, criticizing and patronizing him relentlessly throughout their interactions. When the "younger" Archmage achieves the same knowledge and power as his future self, he leaves to fulfill his part in the time loop, and the elder couldn't be happier to see him gone.
-->'''Archmage:''' ''Finally.'' I thought he'd never leave.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'' episode "Double Dipper," [[SeekerArchetype Dipper]] makes about ten clones of himself in order to pull off [[ObsessedAreTheListmakers an extremely elaborate plan]] to dance with Wendy. In an amusing {{Aversion}}, they all [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sPjpxeL3hI get along really well at first]]. Their inevitable revolt only comes because Dipper gets enough CharacterDevelopment to abandon their plan, and even then they're [[AffablyEvil weirdly nice]] about it.
** In "Weirdmageddon 2: Escape from Reality," Dipper discovers that [[CloudCuckoolander Mabel]] has been trapped in a LotusEaterMachine that creates [[SugarBowl her idea]] of an [[CrapsaccharineWorld apparently]] "perfect world." Although she wants him to stay, she has prepared a "backup Dipper," [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXO0f2fh6fo Dippy Fresh]], who's [[TotallyRadical more to her taste]].
-->'''Dippy Fresh:''' Dude, take a chill-pill! They grow on trees here.\\
'''Dipper:''' ''You stay out of this, Dippy Fresh!''
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Kaeloo}}'': In the episode "Let's Play Astronauts", the main four go to an AlternateUniverse where Kaeloo's [[HulkingOut transformation]] happens in reverse, Mr. Cat and Quack Quack have each other's personalities and Stumpy is a genius. While Kaeloo, Quack Quack and Mr. Cat hit it off with the other counterparts, Stumpy's math-loving, comic-book hating counterpart annoys him to no end.
* In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', Pinkie Pie makes copies of herself. Her duplicates are obliviously and single-mindedly focused on having fun, to the exclusion of all else -- an accusation frequently leveled at Pinkie herself -- and it turns out to annoy Pinkie just as much as it does everyone else.
* ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'':
** The whole premise of [[WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerbTheMovieAcrossThe2ndDimension the made-for-TV movie]] is that the main cast travels to another dimension. While Doofenshmirtz is initially on good terms with his alternate dimension counterpart, it doesn't take long for Doof-2 to realize that Doof-1 is [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} absolutely clueless]] and after having the Otherdimensionator built decides he wants nothing to do with him.
** Another special {{Parodies}} a ZombieApocalypse when Doof accidentally creates TheVirus, spread by touch, that turns people into mindless clones of him.
-->"One of me is fine, but eh, I can be really annoying en masse. I admit it."
** In one episode, Candace ended up splitting into two halves thanks to one of her brother's inventions; one was obsessed with [[LoveInterest Jeremy]], and the other was obsessed with busting her brothers. They ended up singing an entire song about how they dislike each other (though most of the hate comes from Busting Candace).
* ''WesternAnimation/RickAndMorty'':
** Rick's ability to travel through alternate universes and the general trend of the various versions of him pissing off those in power has resulted in thousands of his alternate selves forming the Council of Ricks, a governing body meant to police themselves. The protagonist Rick hates these Ricks, as they're people who hated government that essentially BecameTheirOwnAntithesis.
** "Big Trouble in Little Sanchez" has Beth and Jerry go to alien marriage counseling which shows couples how the other sees them... by [[{{Tulpa}} creating a monster out of each partner's perception of the other]]. Then they show how to make their relationship work and have the monsters love each other. Beth and Jerry's monsters are a giant insect and a spineless worm--and worse, they're codependent, which allowed them to escape! The only way they could stop them is creating a Goddess Beth to kill them. [[spoiler:It should come as no surprise that Beth and Jerry divorce for a season before getting back together only after some CharacterDevelopment.]]
** The plot of "Rest and Ricklaxation" has Rick and Morty get split into two halves by a detoxifying machine at an alien spa. The machine separates toxic parts of the user's own personality into a separate person (or rather, the parts of their personalities that they see as toxic in themselves), so it's only natural that the "purified" Rick and Morty butt heads with their toxic halves.
** In the season 4 finale, "Star Mort: Rickturn of the Jerri," it is revealed that [[spoiler:Rick really did end up cloning Beth at the end of "The ABC's of Beth." While one Beth stayed at home, without knowing of the other, the other Beth went into space to travel the universe like her father. When Space!Beth returns and encounters Home!Beth, the two butt heads right away, The former seeing the other as weak, and the latter seeing the other as just like their father. They eventually set aside their differences and get along by the end of the episode, however]].
* An episode of ''WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}'' dealt with twins Phil and Lil wanting to be less like each other, and thus adopting the mannerisms of Chuckie and Angelica, respectively. Chuckie became exasperated with Phil's constant over-cautiousness, while Angelica was not at all amused with Lil's new aggressive persona. In the end, both Phil and Lil [[StatusQuoIsGod went back to being themselves]].
* In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/TheSmurfs'', an accident with magic causes both Papa Smurf and Gargamel to each split into two separate "twins" of themselves. The two Papa Smurfs try to find a cure to recombine, but they can't get along or cooperate with each other, and cause even more accidents, eventually blowing up their lab; eventually, they decide they have to work on it separately, and draw straws, the loser leaving the village. (The other smurfs decide to help out, half of them leaving with the one who leaves.) Meanwhile, the two Gargamels fare even worse, hating each other to the point of getting into fist fights. When the two Papa Smurfs eventually do find the cure, it turns out the reason both pairs didn't like each other, simply put, was that they were ''too'' similar, the TooMuchAlike Trope clearly applying in ''both'' cases.
* Weird variation in ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark:'' a giant dragon summoned by overuse of the word "shit" has Cartman's voice - when it's defeated, Cartman says "What a lame voice..."
* In ''WesternAnimation/StarTrekLowerDecks,'' [[spoiler:Boimler has this reaction after being cloned by the transporter. It doesn't help that "William" gets to keep his dream job on the ''Titan'' while the original Boimler is sent back to the ''Cerritos.'']]
* In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'', Steven uses a time-traveling device to create several time copies of himself [[MundaneUtility for a band]]. They get along at first, but have a disagreement when the original starts trying to designate each copy as a specific role ("the funny one", "the smart one", etc), and calls them annoying. They eventually start a fight that goes through at least four different areas in spacetime and gathers many more clones.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'', a character named [[SdrawkcabName nosyarG kciD]], nicknamed Larry, (an {{Expy}} of Bat Mite, a GreatGazoo from the comic books who [[{{Fanboy}} idolizes]] Batman), who is Robin from an alternate dimension, comes to try to help Robin heal his broken arm, but Robin doesn't quite enjoy this encounter. His double is massively incompetent, which doesn't help smooth things over.

* Comicbook/{{Loki}}:
* In one of the ''ComicBook/JudgeDredd'' stories, Dredd's arch-enemy Judge Death escapes from confinement and goes back to Deadworld to restrategize, but a mistake by the dimension-travel scientist sends both Death and the scientist back in time as well.

* In ''ComicBook/TheSandmanOverture'', the many different "aspects" of [[AnthropomorphicPersonification Dream]] are gathered together and immediately start arguing about whether they count as one person or many people. Two Dreams have this side conversation:
-->'''Dream 1:''' Am I always like this?\\
'''Dream 2:''' Like what?\\
'''Dream 1:''' Self-satisfied. Irritating. Self-possessed, and unwilling to concede center stage to anyone but myself.\\
'''Dream 2:''' I believe so, yes. In my experience.\\
'''Dream 1:''' Ah. Fascinating.
* In Issue 12 of the ''ComicBook/InvaderZimOni'' comic, Zim and Dib are accidentally slingshotted into a BadFuture where Zim has conquered the world and declared himself Emperor.
* ''ComicBook/InvaderZimOni'':
* ''ComicBook/JudgeDredd'':
* Comicbook/{{Loki}}:
* ''Creator/MarvelComics'':
-->'''Dream 1:''' Am I always like this?\\
'''Dream 2:''' Like what?\\
'''Dream 1:''' Self-satisfied. Irritating. Self-possessed, and unwilling to concede center stage to anyone but myself.\\
'''Dream 2:''' I believe so, yes. In my experience.\\
'''Dream 1:''' Ah. Fascinating.

* ''Film/AvengersEndgame'':
** Although nowhere close to Nebula's IHatePastMe, Present-Day enlightened Steve is annoyed by his uptight past self. When Past Steve says "I can do this all day!", Present Steve exasperatedly says, "I know, I know".
** Tony Stark implies this when telling Scott Lang to give his past self a heart attack as a distraction.
* In ''Film/BillAndTedsBogusJourney,'' the two actually get on pretty well with their "future selves," before discovering that they're actually evil robot doubles. Evil Bill and Evil Ted proceed to [[DeathIsCheap kill them]], alienate their girlfriends and try to create [[BadFuture a future that is most]] [[ConfusingMultipleNegatives non-non-heinous]].
-->'''Bill:''' That other me is a ''dick!''\\
'''Ted:''' Yeah.
* In the sci-fi thriller ''Film/{{Coherence}}'', different timelines cross due to a TemporalParadox caused by a comet passing earth. This allows characters to meet their counterparts from other realities. One of the characters is shown to be extremely hostile towards his alternate versions, up to the point where he picks a fight with one.

** In [[ComicBook/DoctorWhoTitan Titan Comics']] ''Missy'' miniseries, Missy and the Delgado Master travel up and down their timeline, encountering their other selves, though only a few encounters are seen in full. The Delgado Master is not exactly thrilled by the cannibal Simm Master from "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS30E17E18TheEndOfTime The End of Time]]", and is disappointed in Missy for working with the Doctor, but likes [[spoiler:the Dhawan Master]] for making the Doctor kneel, even if he refuses to let his future self show him up. Missy, meanwhile, sees the Delgado Master as a child, albeit a brilliant child, and while she describes the cannibal Simm Master as their "emo phase", needs to remind herself that she's better than that. The Simm Master just sees them both as food, not caring about the paradox eating the Delgado Master would cause.

* Waverider from ''ComicBook/Armageddon2001'' initially had a bad relationship with the leader of the Linear Men when it is revealed that he is the Matthew Ryder that ended up living the life Waverider had lived (or would have lived in the new timeline) and so ended up killing the other Matthew Ryder.

* ''Manga/FairyTail'': When the main cast goes to the alternate universe of Edolas, they often get annoyed by their counterparts. Nastu dislikes his for being a coward, while Erza dislikes hers for being a villain. Out of all of them, Gajeel was the only one who instantly became friends with his counterpart, liking him for being a snazzy dresser and for being brave enough to oppose the tyrannical kingdom despite not having any powers or fighting skills. They manage to make peace with their counterparts in the end.
