* The Narrator of VideoGame/TheStanleyParable starts by gently nudging Stanley in the direction of the game that leads to freedom. If the player defies the narration, the Narrator becomes increasingly annoyed and tries pushing Stanley--and then the player--in the direction intended. Depending on which decisions the player makes, the Narrator can either become the main antagonist aiming to kill Stanley for going against the narrative, a confused ally of Stanley trying to make sense why the game is becoming MindScrew-y, or the target of Stanley's defiance causing his story to crumble around him.

*Webanimation/DarkSecretsOfGarrysMod: Part 2 of Medievil és a Playstation 5 (Medievil and the Playstation 5) introduces a character simply called "the narrator". Unlike most examples that use this trope, he is actually shown to have a body and a face. His home is a BlankWhiteVoid where he watches the events of the series on a TV. Due to the characters messing with the timeline in a previous video, he is able to appear in the physical plane. He also uses badass fingersnaps to manipulate the setting. .

The Interactive Narrator isn't so lucky. While this type of narrator exists "off-camera", the characters of the story are fully aware of his narration and are able to interact with him. AuthorPowers are also not uncommon among these narrators, allowing them to change the entire setting and plot at will.

HilarityEnsues if the narrator in question is particularly snarky or critical of the characters' actions. This often results in the narrator arguing with the characters like a sort of DungeonMaster. This extends to comedic examples of disgruntled villains attacking or abducting the narrator and attempting to take his place in order to make life miserable for the heroes.
