* In reality, sucking on a cut is not safe. The mouth contains bacteria and there have been cases of serious infection in people with weakened immune systems. That said, saliva contains growth factors and antibacterial factors so people often get away with it, and may even benefit. Licking another person's wounds is a much worse idea: there is a risk of both infection and transmission of disease. Also very dangerous is letting a pet lick a wound: mild-bogglingly horrible infections can result.

In RealLife this is a bad idea, as your mouth contains more bacteria than any other part of your body. Sucking on your own cut finger is fine (and can actually be beneficial) but having someone else's saliva in direct contact with your bloodstream or vice versa is just generally asking for an infection, as well as a great way to spread blood-borne diseases.

Like rubbing an injury, sucking on the finger provides lots of stimulation (yeah, baby) to the area around it, which causes those sensory nerves to overpower the signal from the pain. It will feel better; however, given the amount of bacteria in the human mouth, you may not want to put a cut finger in there.
** In fact, saliva contains epidermal growth factors that significantly speed up the healing process, which is important since small cuts in the mouth (such as from flossing) would otherwise have difficulty closing due to the perpetually wet environment. It's actually quite common for injured animals to lick their own wounds for precisely this reason. However, it's true that the human mouth is loaded with germs, so you should refrain from licking another person's wounds, although it's generally safe to lick your own, since your immune system is already well-prepared for dealing with your own unique brand of microflora.
