** A more literal (yet less malevolent) example is the knockoff brand of Powerpuff Girls created by Professor Utonium's college roommate Dick Hardly in "Knock It Off". While they have the same intention as the actual girls in fighting crime, Dick designed them to cash in on the girls' success. Although the first batch of knockoffs he made was quite effective, the brand eventually failed because he constantly degraded their quality to the point of being useless. When the knockoffs witness the Professor literally hugging the girls back to life in the middle of Dick's attempt to kill them, they [[HeelFaceTurn move on to destroy their creator]], in one of the few permament deaths in the series, in protest of Dick not showing them any love.

*** In ''VideoGame/SonicR'', Tails has the Tails Doll while Knuckles has Metal Knuckles. While the latter is the echidna's equivalent to Metal Sonic, the former is a literal "knockoff", as the doll is quite a shoddy creation compared to the Doctor's usual fare, being little more than just a floating generator with a poorly made Tails plushie dangling below it. *** The most famous knockoff is Metal Sonic from ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehogCD'': he's as fast as Sonic, uses a energy shield instead of spinning, and even makes Sonic's FingerWag before starting the race. "[[InSeriesNickname Metal]]" seems to have a special position in Eggman Empire, as unlike other machines, the scientist keeps rebuilding him, even after his betrayal in ''VideoGame/SonicHeroes''. In sequels, Metal Sonic keeps the SuperSpeed, but also tends to take control of machines himself, or to become a giant robot.
*** ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog28Bit'' has Silver Sonic who can spin like the blue blur (and both of them can bounce on the other when they're spinning themselves), has turbo behind its shoes to go fast, and extendable arms with clamps. ** Similarly the Punk Frogs were an attempt by Shredder to replicate the success Splinter had with the Turtles, right down to making them after his favorite historical conquerors. He not only managed to miss the whole "family dynamic" the Turtles have but didn't even bother to train the Frogs in combat, instead relying on advanced weaponry. This, combined with the Punks' own laid back personalities, resulted in them pulling a HeelFaceTurn pretty quickly and becoming so-so allies of the Turtles.

The five Venom Fist from Gekiranger actually existed before the Gekirangers and weren't created to defeat them, which is a criteria for this trope.

*** In ''Blue Ranger Gone Bad'', the villains turn a statue of Billy into an evil clone, including the ability to morph.

** The Cyborg Rangers from ''Series/PowerRangersLightspeedRescue'' subvert this trope. They are mechanical copies of the rangers with all of their powers and weapons, but aren't created by the villains to destroy them. Rather, they are created by the government to replace the rangers as they think robots are more efficient than humans. But the Cyborg Rangers short circuit and start attacking , forcing the actual rangers to destroy them.

** ''Series/JukenSentaiGekiranger'' and ''Series/PowerRangersJungleFury'' did a variation on it, with the "Five Venom Fist/Five Fingers of Poison," poisonous animal-based Monsters Of The Week, as an EvilCounterpart team rather than an EvilTwin team. They even got a morph phrase and poses.
