* Zigzagged in late 2010s, cyberpunk series ''[=SINless=]'' by K.C. Alexander -- the first book ''Necrotech'', the main character Riko laments her missing gun, the Mantis Industries Valiant 14 an assault rifle that uses 12mm rounds. Only 50 of these were made as a collaboration betwen Mantis (who never made weapons before) and rival [=TaberTek=]. These guns outclassed anything in their respective category, but never made it to large scale protection as [=TaberTek=] went bankrupt in a corporation war. Riko further upgraded it with laser sight and a heat baffler. While the Valiant 14 had the [[MoreDakka rate of fire]] and stopping power of a heavy machine gun, it's easily compact enough to fit in a carrying harness, making the gun about the size of a carbine instead of something much bigger.

* Arguably the Kord 12.7mm Heavy Machine gun serves as the best example of this when held with a bandolier over the shoulder; this gun was developed during a time Russia barely had any machine guns for use after the Soviet Union dissolved and to solve that problem alone. The Kord 12.7 heavily takes inspiration from the NSV Machine gun which was only mounted unlike it's future counterpart.

Practically big enough to be a WaveMotionGun, it turns your Bakugan into a living KillSat. However, it fits the BFG category because it is carried by the hero and can't blow a spaceship in two. [[spoiler:It can blow a pretty sizable hole clean through one, though.]]

** In the episode "Innocence", the gang has to defeat an enemy called the Judge who "no weapon forged" could kill. However, that declaration was made before Christ, and humanity has much bigger weapons. Buffy decimates him with an AT-4 rocket launcher.
