Sometimes the domain of evil or undead entities as EvilIsDeathlyCold. Goes [[IceMagicIsWater hand in hand]] with MakingASplash, and may be involved with [[BlowYouAway wind powers]] via cold air and snowstorms. In ElementalRockPaperScissors with fire, one will usually defeat the other, though which one varies. Ice is unlikely to be any stronger or weaker than other elements though for CompetitiveBalance, and thus HarmlessFreezing will be invoked. If you want to resort to this to kill an otherwise invulnerable entity, you're planning to KillItWithIce.

* Horo Horo from ''Manga/ShamanKing''. Also sourced from a NatureSpirit.
* In ''LightNovel/{{Slayers}}'', this is the primary offensive option for those who practice [[MakingASplash Water]] [[ElementalPowers Shamanism]], with "ice versions" of all the Fire spells like Flare Arrow and Fireball. Naga the Serpent specialises in ice attacks, to contrast her to her fire-favoring rival Lina Inverse, and even has a unique spell of her own design that causes a continual cascade of powerful Freeze Arrows to barrage a targeted area. * Free from ''Manga/SoulEater'' uses ice magic. But after centuries imprisoned by the witches, he's a bit rusty and does things like encase himself in blocks of ice and fall into the Thames (he was trying to use the ice to ''avoid'' falling). Being nigh-invulnerable, this isn't much of a problem for him.
* Blue Rose from ''Anime/TigerAndBunny''. She uses a Freeze Ray to direct attacks, but can also be very versatile with her power.

* ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'': At her darkest point of being BrainwashedAndCrazy, Asuka uses a White Night deck, which is themed after ice, symbolizing her cold-turned heart. It also serves as an inspiration for her manga counterpart's Snow deck which symbolizes her cool beauty.
* ''Anime/YuGiOhZEXAL'':
** Rio uses an Ice deck, a deck that mostly focuses on ice birds and penguins. And ice-related ladies. Her ice theme also matches to her twin brother's shark/water theme.
** Kaiou's Number 19: Freezerdon is the ice-counterpart to his older brother's Rikuo's [[PlayingWithFire Number 61: Volcasaurus]].
* Touya of ''Manga/YuYuHakusho'' is a demon ninja with mastery over ice. When he went under [[OldMaster Genkai]] for some TrainingFromHell, he became powerful enough to freeze a battlefield. Seiryuu, one of the [[TheFourGods Four Saint Beasts]] (and also, ironically, TheDragon to BigBad Suzaku), also had ice powers, but he was a drop in the bucket compared to Touya. There's also Yukina, actually an ice maiden.

** Dr. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze from ''Franchise/{{Batman}}'', now pictured above. Unlike other examples, though, his ice-based abilities are not actually powers per se, but ice-based weapons. However, thanks to an unfortunate accident, he can't survive temperatures above freezing, making him a ''literal'' ice person.
** Franchise/TheFlash villain Captain Cold, whose "cold gun" reaches temperatures of absolute zero, which causes water molecules in the air to immediately form ice, which can be used to freeze people (though because of his code against killing innocents, he usually simply holds people in suspended animation rather than outright kill them), create objects from ice, and also to produce a "cold field" which slows down things around him and is used as explanation as to why he might be able to deal with the Flash.
*** In the ComicBook/{{New 52}}, he seems to no longer require the cold gun until ComicBook/ForeverEvil, where he needs to use it again.
** The pre-New 52 [[LegacyCharacter Killer Frosts]] are an interesting variant as well: apparently created by someone with ''slightly'' more understanding of thermodynamics than most Ice People, they absorb heat, rather than projecting cold. This means you can't [[KillItWithFire Kill Them With Fire]].
*** Made extra interesting by the fact that attempting to [[KillItWithFire Kill Them With Fire]] just makes them happy -- they use the powers because they can't get warm, due to a side-effect of getting them. Ironically this also means that [[KillItWithIce freezing them]] is even more effective against them than it would be on normal people.
*** The New 52 Killer Frost puts a different spin on it, absorbing others' body heat to keep herself warm. Supers with fire/energy powers, though, can have unpredictable effects on her. No word on what natural or man-made fires would do.
** Tora Olafsdotter/Ice. She can, at will, project in various forms quantities of ice and snow through her hands just enough to down an opponent. She can create platforms of ice upon which she can skate. In the ''ComicBook/RedDaughterOfKrypton'' ''Comicbook/{{Supergirl}}'' storyline she used her ice powers to freeze a super-villain who was kicking the butts of three [[Franchise/GreenLantern Red Lanterns]].
** Sigrid Nansen/Icemaiden, who briefly replaced Ice in the Justice League. Her greatest ability is to become very cold and create ice armor in times of great stress.
** Dr. Joar Mahkent and his son, Cameron (both codenamed Icicle), two ''ComicBook/JusticeSocietyOfAmerica'' villains. The first was a normal human with a Freeze Ray. His son Cameron, the second Icicle, can generate and control ice. This is because his father's prolonged exposure to the weapon altered his genetics, allowing him to biologically pass down to his son the ability to freeze objects and people or to lower the temperature of a room or other area.
** An issue of ''ComicBook/JusticeLeague Adventures'' featured a team-up of Icicle, Mr. Freeze, Captain Cold, Killer Frost, obscure Franchise/WonderWoman foe Minister Blizzard, even more obscure Outsiders foe the Cryonic Man, and downright "Sorry, ''who?''" Batman foe the Snowman. All led by Polar Lord, a new villain from [[ComicBook/{{Legion of Super-Heroes}} Polar Boy's]] home planet. The story was called "Cold War".
*** And the team of villains was called the "Ice Pack".
** Elijah [[MeaningfulName Snow]] from ''ComicBook/{{Planetary}}''. Not quite frost projection, but the ability to draw heat out of an object on a molecular level; in his second appearance, he turns nerve gas to slush.
** Franchise/{{Superman}}, ComicBook/{{Supergirl}} and other Kryptonians can expel huge amounts of super-cold air to freeze their opponents with or put out fires. ''ComicBook/{{Bizarrogirl}}'' has freezing eye-beams.
** Polar Boy of DC's Legion of Substitute Heroes and ComicBook/{{Legion of Super-Heroes}}.
** Comicbook/{{Aquaman}} also fits into this trope since his acquisition of an AncientArtifact which, if myth can be believed, not only holds power over the seven seas of the entire world but all the elements connected with said ocean lord.
*** The N52 version can similarly claim this with his new ProngsOfPoseidon allotted him by the aforementioned sea god to utilize [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice with lethal effect]]
** ''Comicbook/CaptainCarrotAndHisAmazingZooCrew'' has Cold Turkey (a turkey with a freeze gun) and King Kone (a gorilla in a cryo-suit with an ''ice cream'' gun).
** Coldsnap, a member of the Outsiders villain team The Masters of Disaster, has this power. He's paired, thematically and romantically, with [[PlayingWithFire Heatstroke]], but because of their powers they can never make physical contact.
* ''Franchise/MarvelUniverse''.
** Bobby Drake, aka ComicBook/{{Iceman}}, from ''ComicBook/XMen''. That's just how he started out -- turns out, he's an Omega-level mutant (that means his full potential is ''Phoenix-class!'') with complete control over moisture. When ComicBook/EmmaFrost (who is a psychic and normally has nothing to do with ice despite the name and the white outfit) took his body over, she did things with his powers that he could never do on his own... but he's learning bit by bit.
*** One ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' comic suggests that he could basically become the next [[Characters/TheMightyThor Ymir]].
*** In the Draco story arc, Bobby Drake gets his head cut off (in Ice form). He later reforms it using the water coming from a demon opponent. Later, Beast issues a research paper regarding this unique mutation for Iceman.
*** He once cured himself of poisoning by replacing his ''entire'' body with new ice little by little this way.
** ComicBook/{{Storm}} also has some Ice powers in the form of creating blizzards, but this is usually de-emphaized due to SuperheroSpeciation, and she uses more of her [[ShockAndAwe Thunderstorm]] and [[BlowYouAway Tornado]] abilities. In the animated series, where Iceman wasn't around, Storm was more than happy to whip up blizzards that could flash-freeze things fairly quickly (though not as quickly as Iceman).
** The minor villain from ''ComicBook/IronMan'', Blizzard, in his multiple incarnations. All the Blizzards have similar powers, derived from their costumes. Micro-circuited cryogenic units make it possible to emit freezing rays, which lower the temperature of the surrounding air (or objects) and release ice as a projectile.
** From ''ComicBook/TheMightyThor'':
*** Skurge the Executioner. Using his Axe, he opens a portal ([[AbsurdlySharpBlade by cutting the air]]) to a dimension of cold, letting the icy wind blow onto his enemies. He can also do the same thing with a dimension of [[PlayingWithFire fire]].
*** Ymir can create blizzards with no effort, among other such Ice-related abilities (he is much stronger than most Giants, as he is the original Norse one). However, unlike Frost Giants, he is an Ice Giant and seems to be literal living ice.
*** Kelda has weather control powers, which includes generating ice and forming weapons from it. And she can make poisonous ice.
*** Loki has many mystical powers at his disposal, but he's got a talent for ice magic thanks to his Frost Giant heritage.
** There was an obscure GoldenAge Creator/MarvelComics hero named Jack Frost with these powers. ComicBook/TheMightyThor eventually declared him to have been a diminutive [[Myth/NorseMythology frost giant]].
** In ''ComicBook/{{Runaways 2015}}'', Sanna Strand is capable of generating ice from her hands.
* Sub-Zero, from ''Blue Bolt Comics'', gained ice powers when his spaceship passed through a comet.
* Tor from ''Crack Comics'' had control over ice.
* Frostbite from ''DV8'' has an odd twist on the formula: his power is absorbing heat. He uses this to freeze enemies in their tracks, but he can also release his stored heat in an explosive blast.
* One-shot villain Icy Mike, for whom Comicbook/{{Empowered}}'s boyfriend, Thugboy, once worked.
* Arctica Lagopus from the series ''The ComicBook/{{Extinctioners}}'', an Arctic Fox with Ice powers. Didn't see that one coming.
* The Snow Queen is a prominent villain in ''ComicBook/{{Fables}}''.
* Dr. Frost from ''Prize Comics'' had ice powers and would encase himself in ice to survive explosions.

* Nivus in FanFic/TheTaintedGrimoire is so good with ice-based abilities that hardly any attack can get past his defences to the Judgemaster he guards.

* In ''Fanfic/UnderTheNorthernLights'' nidhoggs are limb-less dragonlike monsters who breathe ice cold instead of fire. They primarily use it to deep-freeze wood and then eat it.
* Colgate in ''Fanfic/AceCombatEquestriaChronicles'' can use her magic to temporarily freeze the enemies... or apple pies, to be used as thrown weapons by other ponies.

Her ice powers increase as she gets older so she can generate giant ice palaces and snow golems, but she still has difficulty controlling them, accidentally plunging her kingdom into a forever winter and completely freezing the fjord. Her powers are fueled by her emotion, meaning they go haywire when she's afraid or anxious.
* Gru from the ''WesternAnimation/DespicableMe'' franchise has several kickass weapons that we see over the course of the two films, but his go-to weapon seems to be his FreezeRay, which is also the one we see him use most frequently. ** Iceman uses his mutant ability to create ice.
** In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', when confronted by mutant with a fire power the Future Sentinels turn to ice to combat that.
* Snow White has ice powers in ''Film/AvengersGrimm'' and is also a very cold person.

* Alexander Velitzyn, main character of J. M. Siderova's ''The Age of Ice'', conceived on a bed of ice is immune to cold and when in a state of high emotion his flesh becomes painfully cold to the touch. In time he learns to control this, being able to make ordinary ice diamond hard and to turn water to ice at will. Extreme, as in Arctic level, cold puts him into a state of suspended animation. After doing this once he stops aging, his story extending over 250 years. It is hinted that he may be an incarnation of Old Man Frost.
* In ''Literature/TheChroniclesOfNarnia'', Jadis the White Witch causes EndlessWinter for a hundred years and lives in an ice castle. She has other powers, however, most notably [[TakenForGranite turning dissidents to stone]].
* [[PlayingWithFire Firecrafters]] in ''Literature/CodexAlera'' can do this by using their furies to ''remove'' heat from something instead of adding it. We first see this demonstrated by [[SmugSnake Kalarus Brencis Minoris]], who thinks it's funny to push [[TheCallPutMeOnHold the obvious bully-target]] into a fountain and freeze the water around him.
* The eponymous ''Discworld/{{Wintersmith}}'', of the ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'' novel, though this is just a subset of his general "Embodiment of the force of winter itself" bit.
** In ''Discworld/ThiefOfTime'', we find out that Kaos, the fifth horseman who left before they became famous, has a sword that's so cold it goes beyond absolute zero and generates a sort of "burning cold" anti-heat. He uses it to keep milk fresh by putting it in the same room as a super-hot burning furnace.
* In ''Literature/TheDivineComedy'', The Devil is the originator of the blizzards which freeze the final circle of Hell. Thanks to the winds from his six wings, thousands upon thousands of traitors are frozen with him in Lake Cocytus, forever to hate each other for eternity.
* In ''[[Literature/AfterTheGoldenAge Dreams of the Golden Age]]'', Teia has freezing-based superpowers.
* [[TheFairFolk Queen Mab of the Winter Court of Faerie]] in ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'' has near absolute control over ice and, in one instance, [[EyeScream froze the water in Harry Dresden's eyeballs]] to prove a point (namely, that he should shut up).
** Harry also figured out that he can adjust his fire spells to draw heat less evenly from the surroundings and, a couple of times, uses this to freeze water.
** After [[spoiler: he took Mab's offer of becoming the Winter Knight,]] Harry has been able to use ice-related spells much more. It was hinted that his new mastery of ice and his old mastery of fire are significant somehow.
* The villain of Caroline Cooney's ''Freeze Tag'' combines this oddly with TakenForGranite--her basic schtick is that if she touches you, she renders you frozen and immobile, apparently forever, [[AndIMustScream while fully conscious and aware]]. She never actually kills any of her victims and, at several points, undoes the effect just to toy with them. (This leads to part of the conflict over whether or not to kill her--if she can't be [[HeelFaceTurn redeemed]], a lot of people will stay frozen.)
* In Creator/RobertEHoward's Franchise/ConanTheBarbarian story "''Literature/TheFrostGiantsDaughter''", the titular character wears nothing but a veil of gossamer on a snowfield, can run over snow without leaving tracks, and, when Conan catches her, is as cold as ice.
** Her dad, Ymir, who doesn't actually appear but rescues her and freezes Conan almost to death in the process.
* The Creator/HarukiMurakami short story ''Ice Man''...a woman falls in love with a guy who has "white patches of snow" in his hair and a look "piercing like an icicle" and it doesn't end too well.

** In the short novel, ''Literature/TheIceDragon'', which provided some inspiration for ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'', the main character, Adara, is a young girl who was born during the coldest winter in living memory, and somehow winter had left its mark upon her. Many readers have noted that she bears a resemblance to the Others. Though she does not have any active powers, she has a strong affinity for the cold and can stay outside during winter without it even bothering her. Her skin is also pale and cold to the touch, on top of having a fittingly icy personality brought about by her unusual condition. On top of all this, she is capable of riding the titular ice dragon, which has plenty of icy powers of its own.
* The first spell Grumph casts in ''Literature/SpellsSwordsAndStealth'' is an ice spell, used to assist Thistle in their first real fight as adventurers. In the second book, Grumph puts the ice spell to creative use during his mage trial by casting it on ''himself'' when he has to cross an obstacle hot enough to knock him out if he went unprotected.
* ''Literature/SuperPowereds'' has Michael Clark, who can throw blue bolts that freeze anything they hit. He throws them by punching towards the target. He can also form an armor of ice to protect himself, regenerating it as it melts or takes damage. He's a bit of a bully and has a hard time coping with the fact that he's no longer the strongest of his peers ([[NormalFishInATinyPond as he was in his hometown]]). Ever since his first match with Vince, he holds a deep grudge towards him despite the fact that he won that fight. Michael convinces himself that Vince humiliated him by not [[EnergyAbsorbtion charging up]] before the fight and nearly beat him with what Michael considers a sucker punch. By Year 2 he is still under the mistaken assumption that he's better than Vince when, in fact, Vince has left him far behind and doesn't even consider beating Michael to be a challenge. It helps that while Michael's ice armor may provide some resistance against Vince's fire blasts, it does nothing to hinder an electrical blast and Michael didn't know that Vince could absorb and emit other kinds of energy.

In 1-10 melee rounds she can summon 100-300 Freeze Bees to do her bidding.
** Ice Demons are immune to cold and their claws and wings cause 1-10 and 1-6 HitPoints of cold damage, respectively, when they hit. They have a BreathWeapon of intense cold in a 30 foot by 10 foot cone that inflicts 17-36 HitPoints of damage. They can reduce the air temperature in a 15 foot radius area around them by 20 °F per melee round, to a minimum of -180 °F. For each 20 °F below zero all other creatures in the area take 1-2 HitPoints of cold damage per melee round. While in this or a similar cold zone the demon has improved saves and its Strength and HitPoints are doubled. It can create ice in any shape desired, up to 1 foot by 6 inches by 2 inches per second.
** The Greater Demon Boreas the Winter Demon. His claws inflict 17-36 HitPoints of intense cold damage on a hit and create snowfall in a 10 foot radius that causes 5-10 HitPoints of cold damage per melee round. He can also create a snow storm that lasts 5 minutes three times per day or for 10 minutes once per day. He like to cast ice magik spells and has all of the powers of a regular Ice Demon.

Her main weapon is an ice staff that fires slow, but powerful blasts of ice. She can encase herself in a block of ice to shield from damage and her ultimate conjures a blizzard that damages, slows, and cripples enemies.
