Uncanny Valley is IUEO now and the subjective version has been split; cleaning up misuse and ZCE in the process

* UncannyValley: [[invoked]]The Assistaroids' current appearance is a conscious effort to avoid this. Lawry, an older generation humanoid Assistaroid, explains it to Kio in a manner that wouldn't seem out of place in ''Manga/{{Chobits}}''.
** The short version: Too human looking that they couldn't be seen as "Tools", and thus a ''war'' was fought until the current appearance became standard.

** Unusually, Eris's [[UnusualEars unusual body parts]] also seems to be ignored by a lot of people. {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d by Manami. Since Catians have FOUR ears, with two very human-looking, it's easy for Catians to pass as human cosplayers with good costumes. Slips into UncannyValley when it's forced on the humans' attention that these are indeed real aliens -- such as in the diplomatic negotiation in episode 3. School swimsuits didn't help there at all.

One summer, a message from outer space is sent to Earth, carrying only the message "I'm going to drop by!", setting several organizations into motion.

Kio Kakazu lives an ordinary life on the Japanese island of Okinawa with the girl next door, an old friend he watches movies with, and his party-loving uncle. At a funeral for his grandfather, he meets a CatGirl named Eris, who claims that her ship crashed near the site, and was looking for some food. Surprised, Kio accidentally takes a sip of his uncle's beer and passes out immediately. A few hours later, he wakes up to find [[BedmateReveal Eris sleeping in his bed]]. She is a Catian, one of the aliens who sent the original message, and she's here to learn all she can about Earth. However, both she and Kio are unaware of the organizations close to them that want to investigate the aliens for reasons unknown.

----
!!''Cat Planet Cuties'' provides examples of the following tropes:

[[foldercontrol]]
[[folder:Tropes A-M]]
%%* TwelveEpisodeAnime
* TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects:
** The AI avatar for Eris's personal spacecraft, and the turrets on the catgirl cult's flagship.
** Every car sans Maki's in the first shot of episode 2. Note that ''it'' has more lines and choppier movement.
*** It's also not the only example of this played in reverse either. There's also the limo in episode one, Aoi's Mustang and Yuichi's Jeep.
* AccidentalPervert: Kio and most of the cast to be honest.
* AchillesHeel:
** The [[spoiler:Dogisian Goujyuu PoweredArmor]] has two of these. The first is a physical weak point that functions as a kill-switch when struck, shutting the unit down. The second is an automatic shutdown that occurs if the user tries to attack a [[spoiler:Dogisian.]]
** Also the Catian LatexSpacesuit deactivates when the user is 'In heat', with no visible OverrideCommand. While it is a safety measure, it also can leave the user vulnerable.
* ActionPrologue: Shows Aoi in action, [[spoiler:and one of her many missions where she actively kills people.]]
* ActorAllusion: In the English dub, it's not the first time Creator/TiaBallard has played a cat-like being from a different species [[Manga/FairyTail before]].
* ACupAngst: Aoi, though she's not too terribly distraught about it. It does become an issue later on during a conversation with Minami.
* AdaptationDistillation: The anime covers the 7 volumes of the manga published so far, but the light novels that the manga and anime based on ended in 2015 with 20 volumes published. The anime covers the first four light novels, with the ending borrowed from book 6, Momiji's opening action in episode 1 scene adapted from a flashback in book 9, and a side story from book 9 used as episode 9 (Lawry). In the first 10 books, at least, Manami [[spoiler:is not a haremette]], so a lot of scenes in episodes 3, 6, and 8 are original.
* AffectionateParody: The continuous LampshadeHanging, {{Cameo}}s, {{Shout Out}}s and playing of [[{{Cliche}} common genre tropes]] to their [[HilarityEnsues logical consequences]] put this series squarely into this category.
* AlienCatnip: A rather literal example, as Eris gets high (and hyper) when exposed to catnip.
* AliensLoveHumanFood: The Catians take the many delicious foods that Earthlings make as a significant factor for establishing diplomatic relations. The anime is filled with Food Porn of the many dishes that Eris and the others go crazy over.
* AliensSpeakingEnglish: Japanese in this case (unless you watch the English dub). They even call ''their'' planet "Earth", but decided on "Catia" to avoid confusion.
* AliensStealCable: Subverted. The Catians are ''very'' interested in Earth media, and they want to ''buy'' it because interstellar copyright laws are SeriousBusiness.
* AllPartOfTheShow: Aoi and Manami set out to rescue Eris and Kio, while the director they stole the boat from keeps the cameras rolling, despite his crew's warnings that the show was not according to the script.
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: [[spoiler:The Dogisian Assistaroids taking over the Catian mothership in episode 10. The command staff manage to avoid capture by shifting the bridge out of normal space-time, but they're effectively trapped there until they can be rescued.]]
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: The Dogisians, according to galactic law. The one we've seen so far is an alien arms dealer, and trading with them is deemed illegal.
* AngelsPose: Done (minus the silhouette) by Aoi, Manami and Eris in the opening.
* AnimeAccentAbsence: While the aliens speak perfect Japanese, Jack, Manami's friend from the Company, has a significant accent to hers. Almost all the Earth-native characters speak Kyushu dialect, as well.
* ArcWords: "I'm going to drop by!"
* ArtisticLicenseGunSafety: In Episode 6, it's reasonable for Manami (who has no experience with guns) to be holding a gun and pointing it accidentally at Kio. Aoi, her instructor, should know better.
* AnAsskickingChristmas: Episodes 10-12 take place during the Christmas season.
* BarbieDollAnatomy: Played straight for the most part. Completely averted in the OVA and the DVD/Blue-ray versions. Nipples galore.
* BathtubBonding: Manami and Aoi. And Kio and Assistaroid 6, sorta.
* BattleHarem: Kio's harem has an alien CatGirl with access to advanced technology, an Apporter with {{Teleportation}} and ImprobableAimingSkills, and a BadassNormal.
* BeachEpisode: For a very short time, Aoi and Manami change into [[BunnyGirl bunny girl swimsuits]]. Episode seven is a more traditional beach episode.
** If it counts, the end credits take place ''at'' a beach.
* BeamSpam:
** Episode 10.
** Jen's ship in episode 12 has a form of attack like this as well.
* BedmateReveal: Hint: it's probably not Kio's uncle.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Aoi and Eris are nice girls, but you do not want them after you.
* TheBigDamnKiss: In the second half of episode 12, [[spoiler:Aoi, Manami and finally Eris give Kio a kiss before leaving to fight the Dogisians.]]
* BittersweetEnding: At the end of Episode 9, [[spoiler:Lawry, after coming to Earth to fulfill her long-dead master's dying wish, also wishes to die, having refused the treatments needed to sustain her own life.]]
* BlandNameProduct:
** Somy, OIAV, and [=PanaX=] among others.
** AIC's name and logo can be seen on a truck in Episode 2.
** The Shimaneko (Striped Cat) Delivery Service counter in Episode 4. Notable as the same episode had earlier included a ShoutOut to the delivery service being parodied, Yamato ("Kuroneko"/"Black Cat") Transport.
** Weirdly averted when they go to a fast food restaurant which is clearly a Long John Silver's. Burger chain A&W also ends up featured in a few other episodes.
* BoobsOfSteel: Whilst most of the Catians count thanks to their PoweredArmour and... generous figures, the Dogisian arms dealer Jens probably takes the cake.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: In the OVA, Ichika has a copy of the script for the OVA and reads narration from it.
* BreatherEpisode: Episodes 3, 6, and 9, all of which follow (and lead into) episodes that contain a lot of action and suspense.
* BridalCarry: Kio does this to save an unconscious Aoi in episode 5, much to the latter's delight once she starts to wake up.
* ButLiquorIsQuicker: When she gets drunk on alcohol or catnip, Eris offers to kiss anyone (male or female) who'll give her more.
* BuxomIsBetter: Both Itokazu-sensei and Manami react to Eris with "Those aren't from around here." Aoi just goes "Imported?!" Becomes a ''plot point'' in Episode 7 [[spoiler:Aoi's jealousy of Eris comes to the fore, and this is one of the points Aoi is jealous of.]]
* CannotSpitItOut:
** Aoi towards Kio.
** Manami is much more subtle about this, but Aoi later calls her out on it, telling Manami that she's suffering from this trope as well.
** Eris averts this completely; she's very open about her sexual desire for Kio and liberally employs DoYouWantToCopulate with him.
* CantHoldHisLiquor:
** Kio. One sip of his uncle's beer, and he's out like a light.
** Eris, too. Though that's apparently more an issue of her being, or soon to be, in heat.
* CatFight: And dogfights too.
* CatGirl: Eris, and several other members of her species, are part of the cast. Taken to the point that the only other male Catian in the series [[spoiler:aside from Kio in episode 12]] is only shown in a flashback, and we only get to see his chin. According to the novels, the Catian female/male ratio is 30:1. [[spoiler:No wonder Eris is so quick to suggest sharing Kio, as it's most probably the norm among Catians]]. [[spoiler:Ichika is also a cat girl with real cat ears and tail as revealed in The OVA and on the light novels.]]
* CensorBox: The Assistaroids do this in the sauna scene, not unlike the censor sign guy in ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler''. Averted in the DVD release.
* CensorSteam: Often combined with LensFlareCensor, to the point that half the screen can be obscured at once. Removed in the DVD release.
* ChekhovsGun: Eris's spacecraft is seen a few times early on in minor roles, then has a very important role in the last few episodes.
* TheChessmaster: Jens, whose plan for ruining Catian relations with Earth is really quite impressively thought-out. See MagnificentBastard.
* CityOfSpies: Everyone in Okinawa besides Kio himself seems to be working for someone who's got an agenda related to the Catians. Yes, that includes his PatientChildhoodLoveInterest - it's ''that'' {{exaggerated|Trope}}.
* ClarkesThirdLaw: Ichika quotes this in episode 8 to explain her "magic" scrolls.
* ClingyJealousGirl:
** Manami, although she won't admit it. Gets a little interesting in episode 2 as she spies on them talking. Several times as she's listening in on their conversation, she ends up snapping pens in her hands as she hears some of the things Eris says to Kio.
** Eris gets a little jealous [[spoiler:in episode 12, when she sees both Aoi and Manami kissing Kio before their SuicideMission, which prompts her to also kiss him.]]
* ClothingDamage: Catian weapons are designed to be non-lethal, in the sense of only destroying non-living matter. Just about any battle involving them is going to start with this and build to TheNudifier.
* CoolBoat: Antonia's luxury yacht[=/=]waterborne BigFancyHouse[=/=]high-tech battleship. [[spoiler:In fact, it's TooCoolToLive, metaphorically speaking.]]
* CoolStarship: Several, the Catian mothership especially.
* CosplayOtakuGirl:
** Antonia, the leader of a cult of these kinds of people.
** Eris, though not an otaku, certainly appreciates the effects of cat ears combined with school swimsuits on the bureaucracy of Japan.
* CouchGag: The OpeningNarration at the start of each episode, gleefully spoofing that of one classic show after another.
* CountingBullets: Manami counts all the bullets fired from Aoi's (fully-automatic) assault-rifle; and so knows she's out of bullets.
* CrazyPrepared: A few characters usually seem to have exactly what's needed for a particular incident, especially Kio's uncle, Manami, and Aoi.
* CrowdSong: With Lawry singing only a few bars, the entire cast starts harmonizing to ''Captain Future'''s "Oira wa Sabishii Spaceman", no matter where they are. It's worth noting that the dub went to the effort of translating and having the entire cast sing the song as well, achieving a similar effect to that of the original.
* {{Cult}}: The Underside of the Kitten's Paw, a religion of cat UsefulNotes/{{Otherkin}} {{cosplay}}ers who decide that Eris (being a real catgirl) is the embodiment of the Divine and want to kidnap her so they can worship her.
* CursedWithAwesome: Aoi and her [[spoiler:apporting]] abilities.
* CutenessProximity: Sara loves cats, and is easily wooed by an Assistaroid. To emphasize, Sara was one of the top candidates to join the SAS, but her weakness to cats lost her that opportunity.
* CyberCyclops: The Dogisian battle droids.
* DeathInAllDirections: What Jens's ship specialises in, unleashing both generous BeamSpam and a classic MacrossMissileMassacre (or three) in the finale.
* DefeatByModesty: When Manami and Aoi's training is interrupted by a sniper and her spotter, they counter with their convenient clothing-erasing bullets and send them running with nary a thread between them. [[spoiler:Well, not ''running'', per se -- as in the next scene we see they've been shipped back to Jens in a wooden crate, only wearing some onmyodo tags.]]
* DepletedPhlebotinumShells: Catian anti-matter shells, which have no effect on organic matter.
* DigitalPiracyIsEvil:
** One law strictly enforced by Orsonians is that of copyright.
** Doctor Durel is quick to point out that the ''Captain Future'' insert song can be purchased online.
* DiplomaticImpunity: Kio's house is quickly turned into the Catian embassy, where Earth laws don't apply. This comes up on multiple occasions.
** The reason Aoi and Manami aren't arrested for treason is that the Catians essentially give them political asylum to keep them from being arrested, making it something of a subversion as it was protection that was applied after the crime rather than an attempt to use a diplomatic position to get away with criminal behavior. The Catian senior officers nicely point out that they're willing to overlook the fact that their first representative to Earth was kidnapped and nearly murdered while in Japan, so the Japanese government ought to be willing to leave a pair of Japanese teenagers alone.
** Played straighter when Manami tries to justify her and Aoi's jobs as SP and the fact that Kio's house is now the Catian embassy site as an excuse to let her shoot off, but Kio would have none of it ([[ValuesDissonance check Japanese laws and cultural attitudes on guns]]) and wouldn't take her excuse.
** Also, at one point, Kio brings up the question of whether Eris has reached the age of consent (in an attempt to get out of mating with Eris). The Catians point out that that, again, doesn't apply on embassy grounds.
* DissonantSerenity: In episode 2, [[spoiler:Eris]] sweetly tells a government agent [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown that she will beat the utter crap out of him and his cronies]] after she confirms [[spoiler:that they are in league with dog aliens]]. She even cracks her knuckles with a smile on her face.
* DontYouDarePityMe: Aoi tells this to Manami when the latter continues to insist on trying to hook her up with Kio, even though they have a slightly more pressing matter of attempting to get into space and stop the Catian mothership from crashing into Earth.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: No one seems to care about the headlocks that Manami likes to put Kio in.
* DoYouWantToCopulate: Hormone-overdosed Catians on their mating seasons act pretty... bold.
* DrivenToSuicide: Assistaroids are programmed to do this if they are given an impossible command unless given a verbal override in 10 seconds. Aoi's samurai-themed Droids, upon realizing they can't perform a quick draw stunt due to a lack of the necessary fingers, ''immediately try to commit Seppuku''.
* DropTheHammer: Eris and her Assistaroids have hammers that can vaporize tanks. ([[TheNudifier And clothes]]; no [[FanDisservice fanservice here]], though, since the tanks are driven by male soldiers.)
* EmergencyTransformation: [[spoiler:Since the Catians' ship won't take direct orders from a non-Catian and Kio is the only one with the authority to give orders, Kio has to be transformed into a Catian to save the day.]]
* EvolvingCredits: Not so much evolving as the ending alternates every time, though there is a unique ED in Episode 9.
** The Assistaroids in the opening credits change constantly, reflecting episodal changes.
* ExactlyWhatIAimedAt: With a PinballProjectile. Aoi is quite TheGunslinger.
* ExcusePlot: In-universe, the movie that Manami and Aoi get involved with filming in Episode 5 when they're rescuing Kio and Eris. The director is known for "movies with skimpy plots featuring girls in even skimpier outfits."
* ExoticExtendedMarriage: [[spoiler:The Catians]] have no issues with a male choosing multiple mates (mostly due to the fact that their planet averages 30 females to every 1 male, leaving almost no other choice should every member want a mate [[GirlOnGirlIsHot of the opposite sex]]). This becomes relevant to the plot [[spoiler:when Kio's house is converted into the official Catian embassy, leaving Kio [[MarryThemAll free to marry]] all three of the girls in love with him.]]
* {{Expy}}: A [[BuxomIsBetter full-figured]], happy-go-lucky, [[InnocentFanserviceGirl immodest]] alien girl with various mechanical gadgets [[InnocentCohabitation cohabitates]] with the male lead? Are we sure she's from Catia and not [[Manga/ToLoveRu Deviluke?]]
* FailedASpotCheck: In the beach episode, none of the girls notice that their swimwear have tailholes cut into them (in case Eris wanted to wear them)... until one girl walks out of the dressing room with her bikini bottom on backwards. Cue NoseBleed.
* FamilyFriendlyFirearms: Weapons loaded with Catian ammo become this, for a certain definition of "family friendly".
* {{Fanboy}}s: The organization Beautiful Contact. Being fans of Hard Sci-fi, they are not pleased the FirstContact humanity might get is a CatGirl.
** Also the catgirl cult in episode four.
* FanService: And plenty of it.
** The OVA takes this up to eleven. Cue NoseBleed.
* FantasticAnthropologist: Eris's job, apparently.
* FantasyKitchenSink: There are alien catgirls, alien doggirls, a "recall" esper, and onmyoudo magicians, as well as [[PlayboyBunny alien bunny girls]] being alluded to in episode 5.
* FauxPaw: First episode. It's a CatGirl show, after all. Only rarely used in later episodes, though.
* FemaleGaze: During that scene in Episode 3 with Kio in the bath.
* FirstContact: One of the secret organizations in the story is dedicated to making First Contact, and they expect it to be with StarfishAliens. When it turns out that First Contact is actually going to be with a RubberForeheadAlien who [[AliensSpeakingEnglish speaks fluent Japanese]], it ''pisses them off''.
* FoeTossingCharge: Kio actually manages one of these in the climax, thanks to [[spoiler:his new PowerArmor.]] It goes well against the Dogetian Assisdroids he's fighting... up until he runs into a [[HumongousMecha big one]]. [[spoiler: And then he performes a foe tossing charge on it, too.]]
* FreeLoveFuture: Implied among the Catians. Their society is frank and open about sexuality, and it's acceptable for a male to have multiple mates due to the unbalanced gender ratio and female estrus cycle.
* FreezeFrameBonus: The files on Kio, Eris, Aoi, Manami and Itokazu-sensei briefly seen in episode three come with a lot of info on them, some of it trivia (like Itokazu-sensei's reason for her love of Hard SF) and other really interesting (like Aoi's surprising family circumstances).
* FullFrontalAssault: Manami and Aoi get out of the bath to grab guns charge an intruder in Episode 3, without taking any time to get dressed.
* FuroScene: In Episode 3, Aoi and Manami do a little bonding in the tub, which results in them being completely naked when trouble strikes.
* GagBoobs: Eris. A few of the older Catians are bigger, but hers are the ones that are PlayedForLaughs.
* {{Gainaxing}}: Eris does this a lot, thanks to being busty and wearing a body suit most of the time.
* GambitPileup: The sheer number of factions that have an interest in the Catians [[ArcWords dropping by]] is astronomical. Every one of the main characters except for Kio himself is at first working for a different faction, all of them maintain at least some connection to these factions, the factions proper have their own agendas, and then you get other alien and human factions tangling up in the mess.
* GenderBlenderName: JACK (though it's actually an acronym, and {{lampshade|Hanging}}d by Kio when he points out it sounds like a guy's name), and Melwyn.
* GenreBusting: About half fairly standard ecchi romance/comedy. The other half is a thriller.
* TheGlassesComeOff: ... when Aoi gets serious.
* AGodIAmNot: It is against regulations for a Catian to pose as a deity or accept any special attention from a religious organization. Eris rejects worship from the Underside of the Kitten's Paw accordingly. [[spoiler:She does deliver some space wisdom, however: "Be kind to others, and stop hating yourselves, because everyone is beautiful in their own way."]]
* GodivaHair: Most of the Catian crew are subjected to full-frontal nudity at some point or another. Their tails just oh-so-conveniently cover up their crotches, and only just barely.
* GratuitousEnglish: In the Japanese dub of episode 7, a guy riding a sports car stops near the beach, and says "rice rocket" as well as [[ForeignCussWord shit]], right after a dog droid rips the top part of his car off and right before it knocks him out.
* GratuitousFrench: Manami, in describing what she ''thought'' Kio and Eris were doing.
* GreenLanternRing: Captain Kuune's Multi Task Organizer. It can even do LegoGenetics Engineering on the spot!
* GroinAttack: Part of Manami's arsenal. Kio gets hit twice.
* GunPorn: Manami and Aoi are weapon fanatics.
* GunsAkimbo: Yun-Fat and its twin handguns.
* TheGunslinger: Manami, Aoi and the [[spoiler:catgirl cult]] enforcer maids.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Episode 3, in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it reference; [[spoiler:according to the fine print in Aoi's DIA file, she has an alien half-sister who is older than her because of a TimeDilationField.]]
* HammerSpace: The bells worn around the Catian's necks. The captain's bell, which gets handed to Kio later on, seems to be even more awesome than even Eris's bell.
* HandsOnApproach: Aoi teaching Kio how to shoot.
* HealingHands: Eris's cell phone thing can fix minor head trauma and presumably much more.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Aoi and Manami both attempt one to prevent a space station from crashing and obliterating Okinawa.]]
* HopelessSuitor: Both Aoi and Manami feel they are this towards Kio, and they both resent Eris because they feel she's the reason why they won't stand a chance against her with Kio. [[spoiler:At least until Eris mentions [[MarryThemAll sharing him between the three of them]].]]
* HowUnscientific: Jens's reaction to UsefulNotes/{{Onmyodo}}, word by word. [[spoiler:However, it doesn't stop her from buying Onmyodo tags on the black market, or using them effectively against the Catian mothership in episode 10.]]
* HumongousMecha: Unyuu from Episode 4 is turned into one of these in Episode 7, in a attempt to make him "feel like a real Assistaroid". He even comes with a missile launcher and [[EnergyWeapon Frickin' Laser Beams]] - which get used.
* HurricaneOfEuphemisms: When Kio asks Eris why she came to Earth, she gives an explanation that's one long string of InnocentInnuendo.
* HyperspaceArsenal:
** [[RealityWarper Aoi's]] weapons can come out of nowhere and materialize in thin air. {{Justified|Trope}} as she has the ability to warp any object within 50 metres of her.
** Captain Kuune and other high-ranking officers also have access to a HyperspaceArsenal through their neck-bells.
* IHaveToIronMyDog: When Dr. Durel and Manami get into an argument over whether or not Kio is old enough to be Eris's partner during her first mating season, they ask for his opinion. He says that he has to clean his room [[ScrewThisImOutOfHere and runs for it]].
* IJustWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Manami's motive for trying to hook Kio up with Aoi.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Aoi when describing her situation to Manami [[BathtubBonding in the bath]].
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Antonia, once Kio calls one of her maids out on it during episode 5. Up to that point, she was wondering why despite having a lot of money and anything she could ever want, whether it was a devoted cult/fanbase, and a MaidCorps who was ready to serve her every need, she still felt somewhat empty inside. Once Kio brings up her lack of friends, she decides to help them out, and later genuinely becomes friends with them, and seems to get better.
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: Both the random mooks and even the NinjaMaid squad can't seem to shoot straight at all, like shooting full auto in a narrow train carriage without hitting anyone. The only time the unnamed mooks can hit anything is when the target is invulnerable. In part, this is a example of TruthInTelevision -- as anyone who's ever fired a full-auto weapon knows...there's enough jitter caused by the multiple recoils as to make perfect (or even reasonable) accuracy nigh impossible.
* ImportedAlienPhlebotinum: [[spoiler:Courtesy of the Dogisians.]]
* ImprobableAge: 16 year olds sent on a FirstContact mission, being Intelligence agents, working as [[TykeBomb experienced black-ops]]...
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Aoi, with the most spectacular example probably being when she [[spoiler:''neutralizes a sniper round aimed at Manami by shooting her with an anti-matter bullet at exactly the right time and placement for the clothing-erasing effect to absorb the shot''.]]
* InnocentAliens: "We've come to play", and they mean it. And Eris keeps using porn as reference for Japanese etiquette.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Eris sees no problem walking around the house in a partially-buttoned shirt/pair of panties, with nothing else on. Nor do the rest of the Catians with less. The most they object to it is after the peace meeting the representatives have with several male human ambassadors. Eris mistakenly thought that wearing schoolgirl swimsuits to a meeting was an Earth-custom, due to Kio's often misleading porn stash.
* InnocentInnuendo: At one point, Kio and Eris are making a video, and Kio says that he had better "open up a virgin tape." Eris is normally fairly mature, but since she's ''deeply'' in heat at this point, Kio had her at "open up a virgin."
* IronicEcho: "It's alright, it's not like you'll lose anything if we saw it."
* IsntItIronic: Jens says that she doesn't want her race to die like dogs. She points out the irony.
* ItAmusedMe: Aoi seems to invoke this trope during episode 1 [[spoiler:when she shoots at her driver in the car]]. It's not made clear if she did it for this trope, or to vent some frustration for the fact that [[MomentKiller he just happened to show up while she was trying to set up a date with Kio]].
* JumpedAtTheCall:
** Manami, who always wanted to be a field operative.
** Applies to both her and Aoi when Eris mentions having them work as security for the temporary Catian Embassy, aka Kio's house.
* LaserBlade: [[BladeOnAStick On a stick]], Aoi's melee weapon of choice.
* LaserSight: Justified since it is IR and thus invisible to naked eye, probably a rangefinder.
* LatexSpacesuit:
** All of the Catians. Aoi's isn't a spacesuit ''per se'', but given what we've seen her duraflex suit shrug off, hard vacuum probably isn't beyond its capabilities.
** [[spoiler:All three of Kio's girlfriends put on latex suits before suiting up -- [[Anime/{{Tekkaman}} Sol Tekkamen Suiting]] up: in Episode 12.]]
* LeaveTheTwoLovebirdsAlone: In Episode 8, when Kio, Aoi and Manami are in the holodeck training, Manami excuses herself to let Kio and Aoi train without her getting in the way. Aoi is not happy with Manami cutting out like that.
* LensFlareCensor: Usually on Eris when she's walking around the house. Those clothes don't cover much.
** Averted in the uncensored DVD release.
* LeotardOfPower: Standard Catian uniform; some are actually a type of PoweredArmor. They function the same way for male Catians, as well.
* LethalChef: Aoi, though it's a very minor example since she was only just then learning how to cook. When Kio tasted her cooking, he only grimaced a little bit and commented on its unique taste. Aoi is also better than most LethalChef characters. [[HilarityEnsues She's actually willing to taste her own cooking]].
* LonelyRichKid: Antonia. [[BlatantLies She wasn't in the suit at all]].
* LoveConfession: Invoked in episode 7. While at the beach, Kio asks Aoi if she could do something for him, and they take a walk down the beach. Romantic music plays in the background, and Kio says that he's thought long and hard about it, and that Aoi would be the best choice... [[spoiler:to train him to fight. The music cuts abruptly as Aoi says "huh?"]]
* LoveEpiphany: Manami has one during episode 6, while conversing with a Kio replica in the Catian holodeck, who tells her that he's always liked her, but never took it to the next stage because he thought her calls to a "Jack" meant she was seeing someone already. She sheds a few tears as she starts to realize her feelings for him. [[spoiler:Luckily for her, Eris is more than willing to [[{{Polyamory}} share him with both her and Aoi]].]]
* MacrossMissileMassacre: Jens launches some of these in episode 12.
* MadeOfIron: Even without her combat suit, Aoi survives getting knocked out out the back of a moving subway car with little more than a few bruises.
* MagicFromTechnology:
** [[spoiler:Ichika]]'s UsefulNotes/{{onmyodo}} tags; they're indeed magical, but [[DoingInTheWizard magic is as much a part of Physics]] [[MinovskyPhysics as other universal forces]], according to her. And then she mentions ClarkesThirdLaw almost word by word.
** The Dogisians [[spoiler:even manage to reverse-engineer the talismans, and make both a time-freeze variant and a exploding one able to cut through Catian ship armor -- that space debris couldn't dent.]]
** [[spoiler:More like bought the talismans. In episode 11 Ichika said those talisman are sold by mages who aren't too picky about their customers.]]
* MaleToFemaleUniversalAdaptor: Even though Eris is a CatGirl, with all that entails (including being in heat), she mentions that the Catian and human reproductive systems are compatible.
* MarryThemAll: [[spoiler:Eris suggests this solution by telling Aoi and Manami that Catians are allowed to have more than one mate, so the three of them can share Kio. The other girls are ok with it.]]
* MarshmallowHell
** After rescuing Eris, Kio gets his face buried in her chest.
** In the OVA, Kio briefly gets subjected to a Marshmellow ''Pie'' Hell when his head is trapped between Manami's chest, Aoi's butt, and Eris's next move during a game of Twister. All three girls are aware of it.
* MeaningfulName:
** In Greek mythology, Eris was the goddess (of chaos) whose actions indirectly started the Trojan War. In THIS show, Eris is a {{Catgirl}} [[HumanAliens alien]] whose very presence causes several secret societies and black ops organizations to [[GambitPileup come gunning for her all at once]].
*** Becomes FAR more literal in Episode 10 [[spoiler:when the Dogisians take a far more...active role in trying to get rid of the Catians. That is, if you define a sneak attack on the Catians' ship that's sent it into a collision course with Earth, the Captain of said ship being neutralized by Dogisian Assistaroids, and Kio being left in command by said Captain as being a "bit more literal"]]
*** Another meaning example for Eris: during the OVA, the kids are playing games, one of which is Twister. After a discussion about [[AintNoRule Eris being able to use her tail]] and having her bust on Kio's back, she moves again, before inadvertently brushing her tail across Aoi's butt. She promptly freaks out at the touch and instinctively moves, collapsing herself and everyone else, save Eris who's confused about what happened, and she ends up winning the game thanks to this.
* MechaMooks: The Assistaroids employed by both sides. They do show some intelligence and emotion, though (at least the Catians'); most of the Catian Embassy's Assistaroids are named, or at least numbered to differentiate them.
* TheMole: Manami's father works for the CIA, and she begins spying on Eris in the first chapter/episode.
* MoodWhiplash: In the first episode, compare any scene with Kio and/or Eris to any scene without them. You would think the channel was switching back and forth between [[SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness two completely different shows]].
** Episode 10 as well - [[spoiler:Seems to start out as a standard angsty Christmas harem episode - ends with the Catians' ship about to crash into Earth, the Captain having been infected with mind-stopping nanomachines, and Kio about to take command of the situation and save the day. All in about 15 minutes. Whew!]]
* MoreDakka: Jens's starfighter in episode 12, which can unleash both BeamSpam and MacrossMissileMassacre.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes N-Z]]
* NarratorAllAlong: [[spoiler:Ichika]] narrates throughout the whole series. It's only revealed that it was her in the OVA, when [[spoiler:the other characters have to point out that she [[MediumAwareness missed her cue]] to continue expositing the story. She pulled out the script of the show and starts reading from it for the rest of the episode, including one scene where she's reading the lines for the show itself in a recording studio.]]
* NewTransferStudent: Eris, Antonia, Sara and Maya. Antonia shows up with bread in their mouth, mistakenly believing (because of reading shojo manga) that it is a Japanese custom for new transfer students to do so. See the LateForSchool trope for more information on the "bread in mouth" convention that ''Asobi ni Iku yo!'' pokes fun at.
* NiceGuy: Kio; he sure keeps his own PornStash but he is pretty much "look-but-don't touch" type. He is really scared when Eris tried to sleep with him. Pretty much all the main characters agree that he's a very pleasant and helpful young man that they like having as a friend.
** The girls at his Film Club outright call him this and put him in the "diamond-in-the-rough" category.
* NighInvulnerability:
** Aoi, earning her the codename Akuun Momiji - Bad-luck Momiji. (a few times in the novels, her codename is given as Akuen Momiji; her English-speaking enemy in book 9 translates that as "Calamity Momiji")
** Eris's service drones. They can withstand [[spoiler:being shot down in a helicopter by a tank]] with nothing worse than a few scorch marks. They're essentially [[VideoGame/MegamanLegends Servbots]] with a cat theme.
* NinjaMaid: Acting as enforcers of a [[spoiler:... catgirl cult???]]
* NoseBleed: Not a direct shot though, just in a form of DiscretionShot in Episode 7.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:The pirate captain in episode 1, who supposedly died when he blew up the ship, somehow survived and is seen in episode 11. He goads Aoi into shooting him, saying she's nothing more than a killer, which Aoi promptly complies with. Luckily for him (maybe), she had [[FamilyFriendlyFirearms Catian ammo loaded]], so all that happens is he loses his gun and some of his outfit.]]
* NowOrNeverKiss: [[spoiler:Aoi first gives Kio one of these causing Manami and Eris to get jealous and kiss him as well.]]
* TheNudifier: A theme in Catian weapons design seems to be to neutralize your opponent's weaponry non-lethally. They often simply erase anything they hit that isn't living tissue.
* ObliviousToLove: {{Justified|Trope}} by Kio in regards to Aio and Manami, who have taken a lot of effort to convince him that they're only interested in him as a friend. He's far less oblivious to Eris's very, very obvious romantic interest.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome:
** Eris [[spoiler:beating up the scientist and wrecking the laboratory she is held captured in]] in episode 2 ''offscreen''.
** In Episode 5, an obvious cue (looking back) for a FanService scene is skipped to set up a twist. [[spoiler:Kio and Eris exchanged clothes so Kio can use Eris's power armour and make an escape, which was Eris's idea.]]
* OhCrap:
** Manami, Maki and Aoi when they see some of the Catians's large chests (especially Eris and Durel).
** The scientist when Eris breaks out of containment and is going to beat him up.
* OneGenderRace: Averted with the Catians. While it may at first seem that their planet is populated solely by women, it is later revealed that a genetic mutation causes the birth rate of females to be significantly higher than that of males (30:1 odds against). Despite this, male Catians do hold a very real place in their society.
* OneOfTheBoys: Manami said that when they were young, Kio was shy around women and she was able to get along with him due to her unfeminine personality.
* OnlyFleshIsSafe: Catian weaponry focuses specifically on destroying material matter. In the 2nd episode, anti-matter hammers are used to destroy a battalion of tanks, and the clothes of the pilots inside. Later on in the series, anti-matter bullets are used to defuse a hostage situation by shooting the gun pointed at someone's head.
* OpeningNarration: Not the show's own, though. Outside of the first two episodes, the show uses modified versions of other shows' opening narration. If you didn't even know some of the listed shows had a narration, they did in their Japanese dub.
** Episode 3-4: ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries''
** Episode 5: ''Series/MissionImpossible''
** Episode 6: ''Series/CharliesAngels''
** Episode 7: ''Series/{{Bewitched}}''
** Episode 8: ''Series/StarskyAndHutch''
** Episode 11: ''Series/RedDwarf''
** Episode 12: ''Series/TheGreatestAmericanHero''
** OVA: ''Series/IDreamOfJeannie''
* OralFixation: Dr. Durel is almost never seen without something in her mouth.
* OverlyLongName: If you think JACK was that long, that is not the longest one. The record right now goes to Antonia Lirimonie Norfedras Papanorgas Arecroteles Cnorses Morfenoss.
* ParentalAbandonment: Aoi's parents kicked her out after finding out about her [[spoiler:[[PsychicPowers apporting]]]] abilities. There might be more to the reasons why her parents left her behind if the DIA file on her from Episode 3 is accurate.
* PatientChildhoodLoveInterest: Manami.
* PervertRevengeMode: Manami can skirt the line between this and UnprovokedPervertPayback when Kio sees her in unfortunate positions. Really, beating the guy up for walking into his own living room? Or coming running to help you after hearing gunfire in a public street?
* PetitePride: Chaika from the Catian ranks.
* PhenotypeStereotype: Jack, also an example of AmericansAreCowboys.
* PlayingCyrano: Manami does this for Aoi towards Kio, but the latter learns that the former is still in love with Kio too, due to [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial certain dialogue, clues, and gestures]] Manami gives throughout the series. Aoi then calls Manami out on this in episodes 11 and 12, combined with a DontYouDarePityMe.
* {{Polyamory}}: [[spoiler:Having more than one mate is not taboo on Catia, so with Kio's house being the official Catian embassy, its soil is Catian territory, and therefore all three girls can share Kio without any problems. Kio doesn't seem to mind this decision... too much]]. This makes perfect sense if you know anything about mating among lions.
* PornStash: Kio has a few magazines. Not very secret, though, as even Manami knows where they are. And Eris keeps finding them... [[HilarityEnsues and using them as cultural references]].
* PoweredArmor: Aoi's Goujyuu Powered Suit. Also Eris's LatexSpacesuit is a light version of one. Jens has the same type as Aoi's. Turns out that the armor is actually [[spoiler:Dogisian (Jen's race) technology.]]
* PowerPerversionPotential: More technology than power, actually; Chaika explicitly says that the Caitians use their SuperMultiPurposeRoom to satisfy their sexual urges. It's also a blatant copy of the Holodeck from ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'' as well -- down to the grid displayed when the room is turned off.
* PrettyFreeloader: Eris, but only temporarily at first, as she had a mission to accomplish (namely collecting information about Earth).
* ProductPlacement:
** Played straight with the current A&W logo and subverted in the very next shot with Manami's "OIAV" laptop.
** And when we're at computers -- you don't have to be too perceptive to notice that OS on screen after closing credits of episode 9 is Windows 7 (taskbar and general looks).
** Also see GunPorn, they do put THAT much detail on the guns in close up view.
* PsychicPowers: [[spoiler:Aoi]] is an [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apport_%28paranormal%29 Apporter]].
* RealityIsUnrealistic:
** In-universe, Kio's friends in the Movie Club call Eris "too unrealistic" an alien for their movie. Undeterred, she gives them a flyover: whereupon the cameras pick up the ship's energy emitter probes (necessary to stabilize it for low-velocity atmospheric flight), which just happen to look exactly like strings suspending the ship. They then ask if she has an advanced robot, and she brings up an assistadroid, which they also lament looks more like a toy than an actual robot. Given an IronicEcho in the OVA when the Movie Club considers putting together another science fiction movie and decides that having StarfishAliens or SiliconBasedLife just isn't realistic compared to the already known Catians.
** Also Itokazu's group wanted to get rid of Eris at first just for THIS reason alone.
* RealPlaceBackground: The show is set in Okinawa, and spends its opening, {{eyecatch}}es and OnTheNext showing it off.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech:
** Aoi gives a passionate one to Eris on the beach, stating all the reasons Kio would choose Eris over her. Eris responds by hugging her and telling her that she knows how Aoi feels, then they get interrupted by a dog attack before Aoi can respond.
** Manami also gives Eris a tongue-lashing in episode 12, stating similar reasons to Aoi about how she came in and "stole" him away from her. After hearing her gripes, Eris smiles, and [[spoiler:suggests [[{{Polyamory}} the three of them sharing him]], which immediately shuts both of them up]]. Cue [[ObliviousToLove a confused]] Kio wondering what's going on.
* RecklessGunUsage:
** Aoi waves a revolver around in the first episode to intimidate her contact when he disturbs her while she's trying to arrange a date with Kio. She then goes on to actually fire it through the windshield of a moving vehicle in heavy traffic, showing no regard whatsoever for the risk to other cars.
** Manami displays face-palmingly poor trigger discipline in episode 6, waving a revolver in Kio's face with her finger on the trigger. The gun ''had'' just been emptied, but that's no excuse: and she only gets worse later, when she loads the revolver and waves it around in a fast-food joint, once slamming it down on the table while pointed at Aoi. It was quite justified that even though Manami is a gun nut, it was shown that she barely know how to handle guns. And seemingly Kio is better at marksmanship than she is.
* RedOniBlueOni: Manami (red) and Aoi (blue). Made explicit in the opening theme, as each of them are shown washed to their respective colors. Also, both girls serve as blue to Eris's red.
* RedundantRescue: Type 2 in Episode 2, Kio enters the hanger to rescue Eris after everyone breaks into the military base only to find that she's already freed herself and beaten her captors senseless. Eris is still impressed that Kio risked his life to help her anyway.
* RetroRocket: Kio is into classic SF, it seems.
* RubberForeheadAliens:
** Catians and Dogisians perfectly fit the trope. In the first episode, disbelief in Eris's species is expressed because she looks indistinguishable from a ''catgirl cosplayer''. It doesn't help that she has both human and cat ears. Later in the same episode, Eris points out that her species was also rather shocked at how similar their race looks to Humans. In fact, they originally called themselves ''Earthlings'' and their planet was called ''Earth'' before they learned about Earth. Being the more advanced race, they decided to be courteous and rename their planet to Catia.
** This is also one of the main reasons the conspiracy group First Contact wants to get rid of them, because they want Earth's FirstContact aliens to [[RealityIsUnrealistic look more alien]].
* SceneryPorn: It's like a vacation brochure for Okinawa. The author of the light novels is a native of Okinawa and is proud of his home.
* SchoolSwimsuit: The Catians actually hold a conference in them at Eris's suggestion (which was, in turn, Kio's porn stash's suggestion).
* SciFiWritersHaveNoSenseOfScale:
** When the Catian mothership is sent out of control, it's stated by the Catians that an impact with Earth by a ship that size will destroy the planet. A news broadcast states that it will be a multi-kiloton impact, which is the size of a small tactical nuclear weapon.
** Catians and humans are said to be genetically just one one hundredth of a percent different genetically. This is the level of genetic difference found between siblings, not different species (though that itself could be part of the joke).
* SenselessViolins: Aoi carries her tools of the trade in a ''cello'' case in Episode 3.
* SeriousBusiness: The OVA involves everyone in the main cast playing various games, with prizes on the line that are either precious or embarrassing for each of the contestants. Given what's at stake, Aoi and Manami are particularly desperate to win.
* SexualEuphemism: Manami calls it "très bien and c'est si bon".
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Manami invokes this trope when Kio mentions her talking to Jack on the phone, and assuming that it was a guy she was dating. This comes to haunt her when [[LoveEpiphany he (or rather a duplicate of him in the Catian holodeck) tells her that the reason why he stopped acting shy around her was because when he thought she had a boyfriend, he let go of his feelings for her, and treated her as "one of the guys"]], since he felt he didn't have a chance with her.
* ShipperOnDeck:
** Manami tries to ship Aoi and Kio. However a bit of a tragic twist as she is only doing this because she believes she lost her chance to be with him.
** Captain Kuune and Dr. Durel both actively work to set Eris up with Kio. Kuune is subtle and just tries to arrange opportunities for Eris to spend time with Kio so their relationship can grow naturally. Durel is a lot more aggressive about it and tells them to go ahead and enjoy Eris's first mating season while shooting down Kio's objections.
* ShootTheBullet: [[spoiler: To save Manami]], Aoi shoots a sniper round in mid-flight with a Catian clothes-destroying bullet.
* ShootTheMessenger: Subverted and {{lampshade|Hanging}}d. Aoi nearly killed her driver at point blank and clearly stated that she purposely missed because she just let him off the hook.
* ShoutOut: Has its [[Shoutout/CatPlanetCuties own page]].
* ShowerScene: With Jens in episode 9, and Eris in episode 2.
* ShownTheirWork: The unrealistic nature of the premise is frequently lampshaded, in ways that make it clear the creators knew quite a bit about a number of relevant fields, but deliberately let RuleOfFunny take over when the situation warrants it. Some examples:
** The Catian mothership is so huge that if it were to ever [[ColonyDrop crash into the Earth]], it would cause an [[ApocalypseHow Extinction Level Event]]. Only a complete idiot would park a ship like that in orbit. [[spoiler:Since the Catians ''aren't'' idiots, such ships are designed to self-destruct (read: break apart at the molecular level) long before an impending crash, specifically to avoid this, so the only danger is to those in the ship.]]
** The Catians go into heat, as actual cats do. This is PlayedForLaughs. You'd think a space-faring race would realize the potential trouble this causes, and find a way around it. [[spoiler:They are in fact perfectly capable of suppressing their heat cycle, and do so when necessary, but some of them leave it as normal simply because it's fun. Also, some of the dangerous features of their [[PoweredArmor suits]] are locked down while in heat, which causes it's own problems.]]
** It makes little sense for non-human mating practices to slot so easily into a HaremAnime romantic comedy plot... [[spoiler:until it's revealed that the Catians, like Earth cats, have no problem at all with polygamy, so MarryThemAll is the most realistic option]].
* ShrinkingViolet: Aoi in attitude, though her past as an immigration bureau agent [[SubvertedTrope would make one think otherwise]]. This is more of a Japanese cliché that's seen in multiple shows -- the person put through TrainingFromHell SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining; these skills having been deemed unnecessary by the people doing the training. Multiple examples of this exist all through Japanese anime - and Aoi's no shrinking violet when the action starts, she just doesn't know anything at all about intimacy, or boy/girl relationships.
* SpaceElevator: [[spoiler:Catians' Christmas gift to Mankind.]]
* SpecialEffectsFailure: In-universe example - in the OVA, the movie with Aoi and Manami in it has a guy in a rubber suit which catches on fire, which seems to be accidental. The guy in the suit even pats one of the fires out.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS:
** Eris/Elis/Elice.
** Also Catia/Cathea/Kyatia.
** Antonia/Antnia.
** Muttley/Matray/Matlay/Madlay.
* {{Squee}}: [[GenkiGirl Eris]] has this reaction for just about every tasty Earth food she's eaten, so she does this fairly often. In fact, her reactions were so good, ''everyone on the Catian mothership'' decided to visit Earth based on her food analysis report.
* StarfishAliens: Notable by their absence, at least as far as races we've SEEN goes (the Orsonians may be a different matter, though) - much to the frustration of the Beautiful Contact Society, who go as far as deciding to threaten and - if necessary - KILL earth's first alien contact ([[GovernmentConspiracy as far as they know]]), simply because she doesn't fit their idea of what an alien SHOULD be.
* StockScream: In the English dub of episode 1, a Wilhelm Scream can be heard when a pirate gets knocked away during Aoi's infiltration.
* StripPoker: In The OVA, The Female Catia Cast play strip mahjong and strip poker, and there is [[spoiler:strip chess with Jens loosing to Muttley]] as well as [[spoiler:strip rock paper scissors with Kio and some of the female cast, and Kio is winning (he was blindfolded and they kept using scissors to his rock).]]
* SufficientlyAdvancedAliens: As incredibly advanced as Catian technology is by our standards, the unseen Orsonians scare the crap out of pretty much every other space-faring race out there.
* SuperMultiPurposeRoom: The Catians have a multipurpose virtual reality room capable of producing any type of environment and simulating anything... or anyone.
* SupportingHarem: No matter how much Aoi and Manami love Kio, they just know they won't stand a chance against Eris with Kio. However, this takes a variation when [[spoiler:Eris lets Aoi and Manami know that she has no problem with sharing Kio with them.]]
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: There is no-one inside the Earth-made Assistaroid suit. It is a robot that was created and there is ''no-one'' inside. Despite this, both Kio and Eris know Antonia is inside that "robot", but they largely play along until the end.
* TakingYouWithMe: The pirate boat captain tries this on Aoi when he blows up his ship in the beginning of episode 1. [[spoiler:Except that both of them survive.]]
* TalkingWithSigns: The assist droids communicate in this fashion.
* TheirFirstTime: Eris's first mating season. [[spoiler:Kio is way too [[Manga/KannagiCrazyShrineMaidens "pure-pure"]], though, and she has to prematurely end it because of some embarrasing incidents.]]
* ThisIsReality: Time after time Kio has to remind everyone that Catians are real aliens.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Kio's two male friends in the Film Club. The other two girls could probably count as female versions as well.
%% Misuse? does he actually try to win her over? * ThroughHisStomach: Kio and Eris first bond over Eris' love of Earth cuisine.
* TitleDrop:
** In the first minute of the first episode, and at the end of episode 2.
** In ''every single episode'', at the {{eyecatch}}, spoken by various characters.
* ToastOfTardiness: Antonia, Maya and Sara all have a piece of toast in their mouths when they transfer. Specifically invoked by Antonia, who learned about it by reading shojo manga.
* TokenMiniMoe:
** Antonia, Melwyn, and Ichika. It's hard to tell if Chaika is this or just flat chested.
** In the light novels, Chaika has three daughters; the youngest is 3-4, the oldest 16-17. She and Kuune were childhood friends. Ichika, on the other hand, [[spoiler:is an immortal catgirl sage created hundreds of years ago on Earth with magic]]. Melwyn is 12.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Manami and Aoi, respectively, though Aoi is by far the more deadly of the two.
* TookALevelInBadass: Kio, who goes from 'standard-model UnluckyEverydude' to 'capable of tearing apart a HumongousMecha with his bare hands' after getting his own suit of PoweredArmour. The rest of the cast were suitably astonished.
* TooMuchInformation: Aoi and Manami's reaction to Chaika informing them that the Catian's SuperMultiPurposeRoom can be and is used to create sexual partners.
* TransformationSequence: Subverted; although the senior Catian officers can use this to change into their uniforms, Chaika isn't given that privilege and has to change manually.
* {{Tsundere}}:
** Manami, a Type A, though in an unusual twist, she has no issues with talking about how much she likes Kio as a platonic friend. She's only tsundere about her romantic feelings toward him.
** Aoi towards Manami, later on in the series anytime Manami brings up the subject of Kio; a type B situation.
* UnfazedEveryman: Kio and his friends in the Film Club, in stark contrast to ''everybody else'' in his life. Kio shows increasing signs of being an ActionSurvivor. And he might even be an OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent yet.
* UnusualEars: Becoming more so now that more races are being introduced. If you look, you'll see that the Catians have ''four'' ears -- the two cat-style ones on the tops of their heads, and two very human-shaped ones in the usual places -- usually covered by their hair.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight:
** The assist droids are out in the open, and the people of Okinawa barely react. When they do, it's usually a quick, positive acceptance based on their cute appearance.
** And then there was one time Manami kept waving a revolver inside a regular restaurant. No-one really reacts about it.
** Unless some major peace/alliance treaties were signed in this universe, it's a bit odd that there are NATO tanks and helicopters on Russian soil. They sort of try to justify it in-universe, but it's still kind of HilariousInHindsight that the Russians are allowing M1 Abrams tanks and Apache helicopters to roam on their lands like that.
*** [[spoiler:The Dogisians have '''THAT MUCH''' political power. It's the reason why Antonia could not book a flight with a rocket anywhere in the entire world.]]
* VerbalTic: Rulos, Eris's ship AI ends most sentences with ~deshi. Also, in the English dub, both the Catians and Jens are very prone to using cat and dog related phrases - [Okinawa cuisine] is the cat's meow, the Dogisians are forbidden to engage in interplanetary trade so they must have dug under the fence, and so forth.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Catians are shown to have a lower tolerance for high temperatures than humans. [[note]]This may seem odd for a feline race, but it's actually not ''that'' far-fetched: cats like warmth a lot, but if things gets ''too'' warm for them, they can get lethargic real easily... and they are as susceptible to sweltering, sunburns, and the like as humans are during hot temperatures.[[/note]] Eris swoons in the heat in episode two, prompting Kio to introduce her to ice cream, while the Catian ship crew find the simulated sauna practically unbearable after only a few minutes.
* WeatherDissonance: Episode 12 shows it ''snowing'' in Okinawa, which would normally be impossible because the islands has a humid tropical climate with temperatures only going down to about 60 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 degrees Celsius. [[JustifiedTrope Eris explains]] this is due to the activation of the SpaceElevator cooling the air around it and causing large amounts of atmospheric water to freeze, part of which managed to stay frozen until reaching the ground because this happened at night.
* WeHaveReserves: The Dogisian attitude to their assistaroids.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Explicitly brought up by Lawry, forming the basis of episode nine.
* WhatTheHellHero: In episode 11, a terrorist seen in the first episode comes back and calls Aoi out for being a Tykebomb who's spent her life killing without love for the country that made her that way, and now she's fighting for a world she's never even seen. She eventually says ShutUpHannibal and dissolves his gun with Catian bullets. Borders on a Subverted Trope -- there's a trope overused in action movies where the victim tries to (and succeeds) in guilting their captor into letting them go by bringing the captor's faults to their attention. In Aoi's case, it fails -- as the [[OhCrap expression on the terrorist's face]] reveals.
* WorldOfActionGirls: Nearly every girl in this series, from the alien ambassador in [[LatexSpaceSuit Latex]] PoweredArmor, to the assassin with {{Teleportation}} powers, to the PatientChildhoodLoveInterest with [[BadassNormal only her courage]], is a badass heroine. Antonia isn't...but she has an AmazonBrigade of heavily armed {{Meido}} to do the asskicking for her. Kio (the main male of significance) tries to keep up, but most of it's up to the girls.
* WrongGenreSavvy:
** You are in a HaremShow with {{Cat Girl}}s, Antonia, not in a {{Shoujo}}.
** One could also make an argument for ''most of the human race'' for trying to insist on seriousness in a universe inherently skewed toward silliness on the [[SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness sliding scale]].
** Poor Maki doesn't live in a universe of StarfishAliens. The members of Beautiful Contact try to KILL Eris because she doesn't fit the StarfishAliens trope. At the very least, she'd accept LittleGreenMen as an alternative.
* YouAreInCommandNow: Happens to Kio when the Catian ship captain hands him her bell after falling unconscious to a Dogsian ambush. Cue salutes from the Catians, the droids, and shocked expression on the humans.
* YouAreNumberSix: Played literally and said word for word in the subtitles in episode 3 when the Assistaroids are numbered to make them easier to use, number 6 is the one we actually see being assigned a number.
