1997 directorial debut of GoreVerbinski, who later gave us the ''PiratesOfTheCaribbean'' films. Written by John Hughes, who basically cashed easy paychecks in the 90s by writing slapstick comedies using his ''HomeAlone'' as a template (see also: ''Baby's Day Out'', ''Flubber''). This was also one of the first movies released by a fledgling little company called DreamWorks and the one which established their rivalry with {{Disney}}. One wonders if they made the film center around a mouse just to be ironic.

* KillerRabbit: The mouse. The last owner of the house before Smuntz Sr. was found dead locked in a trunk in the attic. This seems vaguely unsettling until the ambulance picks up Caesar the Exterminator halfway through the film. He was found the same way, except this time the mouse decided to be nice and call 911. Not to mention the rest of the stuff it does to Caesar and the Smuntz brothers.

...What? That's not the end of the movie. The end of the movie is the two opening the cheese factory with the mouse there helping them as their mascot.

** The brothers ultimately become this after too many plans turn on them, destroying a fair chunk of the house they were trying to save.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: Sort of. The brothers don't have the heart to kill the mouse while it's unconscious (and hate themselves because of it) so have it deported. * NightmareFuel: The painting of their father is moody throughout the film, but then magically changes to a grin, when the sons finally work together for real. In intention, a beautiful event to show the father being proud of his sons even after death, but ''the goddamn painting changes through supernatural forces''.
