* NoBisexuals: Downplayed. Aria accepts bisexuality in general, but she personally believes that her love interest Serena is a lesbian in denial. This belief is based on Serena occasionally calling women they know “beautiful,” but not commenting on men’s looks… and likely also in Aria’s intense dislike of Serena’s boyfriend Ash. Aria even calls Serena out on this during a heated argument, telling her that she knows that her feelings for Ash weren’t actually romantic. Serena blows up at Aria for the insinuation, telling her that she doesn’t know her private feelings and has no right to tell her she’s wrong about her own sexuality.

** Korrina calls out Aria this way when she finds out that the group has stalled out in planning because Aria absolutely refuses to allow Ash to help rescue her from Palermo. As Korrina points out, she and Clemont had already lost their jobs because of the conflict, and Aria was consistently making it more difficult to help her.

* JerkassHasAPoint: While it would be hard to call all of Aria's reasons to hate Ash rational, she does make a good point in regard to Serena's relationship with him. Serena had IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy left Ash in Alola along with a girl she was sure was in love with him, and began dating Aria after a few months INeverGotAnyLetters without any letters from him. Aria did have reason to hope that Serena had decided to give up on Ash and start a life with her, and is therefore devastated when Serena has to basically tell her that someone had tricked her into the relationship.

Added DiffLines:

* NotHelpingYourCase: Aria is quite insulted when Serena accuses her point-blank of INeverGotAnyLetters stealing Ash's letters to her with the aim of breaking them up and having Serena for herself. As Serena points out, not only did Aria orchestrate the events of The Camera Eye, supposedly for Serena's own good, but she had just given a speech about how her resentment of Ash and all he stood for verged on IrrationalHatred. In summary, Aria claimed that Ash was holding Serena back from her true potential, was completely unsurprised that Ash and Lillie weren't together (when that was Serena's main reason for “moving on” with Aria) and categorically refused to allow Ash to save her, even if it meant giving up and returning to Palermo. In short, it would've been difficult for Aria to give herself a stronger motive for stealing Serena's letters.

Added DiffLines:

* WrongAssumption: Aria genuinely believed that Serena is not happy when she voices that belief saying that it needed to be said eventually.

* NiceHat: Serena wears a wide-brimmed straw hat with a red ribbon while she is in Alola, a continuity nod to the straw hat she wore when she first met Ash at summer camp.

** Distance over Time contains several.
*** When Serena chases down Aria, she learns that spoiler: Aria never received any of her emails and that Palermo was deceiving her the entire time. She not only gave Palermo all the evidence necessary to expose Aria's ploy, but also led Palermo directly to where Aria was hiding.
*** After , everything falls to pieces. [[spoiler: The letter that Serena tried to send to Ash at the beginning of the story is returned to her, which strips away her last shred of hope. She gives up, kisses Aria, and ends up in a relationship with her for just long enough for Ash and Lillie to return to Kalos. Lillie then reveals that despite her kissing Ash, Ash was faithful to Serena the entire time and never stopped writing to her. Serena realizes that someone took Ash's letters to her, and that she was deceived into cheating on Ash.]]
*** In the final confrontation with , the full extent of her multi-layered plan is revealed, including After her apparent defeat, [[spoiler: Palermo returns to pursue Serena and the others at the airport. With her plan foiled and nothing to lose, Palermo resorts to unprecedented violence against everyone in her way. After having Florges attempt to rip the Aether Foundation's jet out of the sky, Palermo faces down Serena in what quickly turns into a CurbStompBattle, with her very first action being to have Florges viciously crush Ribombee to prevent Ribombee from healing Serena's team. When all of her team is seemingly either unconscious or dead, Serena begs Palermo not to kill her.]]
*** After , Serena wakes up and finds herself [[spoiler: floating in an empty void, leading her to believe that she really is dead. After thinking about her life for a while, she is startled by the appearance of Delphox, who reveals that she is not dead at all, but rather deep inside her own mind. After offering Serena some words of encouragement, Delphox returns both of them to reality, where they merge minds and achieve a transformation similar to the one shared by Ash and Greninja. Together, Serena and Delphox easily overwhelm Florges, and when Palermo orders Florges to unleash a dangerously powerful blast, the reflected attack consumes Florges, leaving behind nothing but ashes in the wind.]]

*** During , Palermo reveals [[spoiler: the full extent of her manipulation via a series of Batman Gambits. After using Serena as an UnwittingPawn to sleuth out Aria's plot against her, Palermo took the evidence she collected from Serena's attempted correspondences with Aria and spun it as evidence to frame Serena. She presented this fake evidence to law enforcement, thereby resulting in a search warrant that enabled her to confiscate Ash's letters to Serena upon arrival. Aware of the compliated romantic tension between Serena and Aria, she knew that leaving the two of them together under one roof and removing the one obstacle preventing them from being together would eventually result in the explosion of a drama bomb that would send Aria running back to her. Likewise, she knew that Serena and her friends would come after Aria, and she prepared for it by deceiving Diantha, revealed to be her former protege. Well aware that she stood no chance against Ash, she then turns over the battle to the champion of Kalos.]]
