* HateSink: Alexander Nikos is easily the single most hated character in the story despite having only a few scenes. He seems designed to fill the roll Mr. Schnee would normally fill (abusive rich father figure), but impossibly he comes off as even more vile then Jacques Schnee's canon portrayal.

** On the flipside to the several examples of AdaptationalBadass, Ruby is badly traumatized by the attack on the Vytal Festival in Atlas. Without the motivation of her mother's death to spur her on, gives up her Huntress aspirations completely and instead seeks to become a doctor. Her family still teaches her enough to protect herself because she's been targeted before, but she's still not as good as an actual Huntsman student her age, never mind a GradeSkipper.

** By the time Jaune decides he should try to keep the timeline as stable as possible, he's already failed on multiple counts -- by saving Summer Rose, and by selling his future-tech scroll. Neither of these acts seemed even remotely significant to him at the time.

* AdaptationalJerkass: Vernal. In all her canon appearances she speaks in a well-mannered way, doesn't go out of her way to insult anyone and is genuinely loyal to Raven and the Branwen tribe as a whole. Here, she swears at every conceivable opportunity and goes out of her way to antagonize everyone around her. She is still loyal to the tribe and to Raven (even thinking worse of Yang for being so weak while wearing "her" face, or disliking Qrow because he left the tribe), but she did voluntarily leave to go train with Jaune (though she still thinks herself one of them). She's little different even when the timeline catches up to the first few Volumes, a matter of months before her canon debut, implying that her being groomed for years by Raven into a decoy Spring Maiden humbled her in a way that she hasn't been while training at Jaune's gym and attending Beacon.

Not enough context to tell if this is a valid use of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: When Jaune gets Oobleck to translate some of the ruins he found... it doesn't go well. After a long time, much money spent, and tons of effort thrown into them, the best they can do is a few pages of partially translated notes. Work like that takes time, particularly the translation of dialects that haven't been spoken of in thousands of years. It's the reason the Rosetta's Stone in real life was so important -- it offered a way to translate texts not spoken by any living person.

This or these examples of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome seem to violate at least one of these rules, which disqualifies them: No character reactions (characters get angry, don't forgive, don't change their personality instantly, etc.); Too fantastical (depends on the properties of magic, powers, sci-fi tech, monsters, etc.); Not surprising (a character was warned about the outcome, it's used to provide Karma or An Aesop, or it simply follows normal conventions for this genre or medium); Plot happens (the example only describes an event, but not why audiences would expect a different, unrealistic outcome); Not an outcome (a character just explains why something wouldn't work as expected, or something is just an innate aspect of the setting or character that has a logical reason for being present); More of a Deconstruction (the event has major, lasting effects on the plot, make something more realistic, but not completely realistic, or a parody/fanwork applies realistic consequences to the events of a different work); or fits better under a different trope. See the trope's definition for more details. If you believe a removal was a mistake, please bring it up in the cleanup thread.

* RescueRomance: Deconstructed. In the original timeline, Jaune and Weiss apparently got together shortly after the Battle of Haven because Jaune saved her life. Unfortunately, as a result, the entire foundation of that relationship was that Weiss believed she owed it to him out of gratitude for saving her, and such a terrible foundation meant that it didn't last long for them.

It's the reason the Rosetta's Stone in real life was so important -- it offered a way to translate texts not spoken by any living person.
** Summer immediately tells Ozpin about the man that saved her life, and as much as she could tell about him, and tries to check up once a month to see if Ozpin has found her savior. The problem is, the best description she could give is "Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes, with a healing semblance." Semblances are not an exterior feature, and require active use to be seen (if they can be seen, which isn't always a guarantee), and even if they were, "Blonde and Blue Eyed," is such a wide net, even Taiyang (her husband) falls into it.
** Even if Jaune is shown affection by someone, he's not obligated to return those feelings. Summer, Qrow, and Taiyang start teasing him about Winter kissing him, but they stop short when he tells them he doesn't feel the same way but doesn't know how to tell her that without crushing her (or getting her on a campaign to slay Salem and her goons to make sure Jaune is available). He even points out that even if he was interested, there's lots of competing things on his attention, such as his illicit activities, running the gym, prepping to fight Salem, and working his plans around Ozpin's, not to mention that he's number one on Salem's list. He does admit that he wouldn't mind going on a date or two with Winter to see if things could work out if he didn't have all those things going on in his life.
** Abuse and a total lack of anything resembling love and affection from growing up is not something fixed easily. It takes Jaune close to eight years to get through to Emerald that he's not keeping her for a purpose, that he's not going to sexually assault her, and that he cares for her as a human being. And even then, Emerald struggles in social situations that a ten year old would navigate with ease, has trust issues miles high, and doesn't like anyone who tries to get close to Jaune for fear they might take away the only person she really believes in in the world.
** Ironwood and the other teachers at Atlas are educators and instructors of children, meaning that they recognize clear signs of abuse. It takes less than a day for them to confront Jaune about Emerald's TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior, and those assigned to teach Emerald pepper in their conversations with her with questions about how Jaune has been raising her. He isn't abusing her, of course, it's a result of Emerald growing up on the streets, but they don't know that and they have to be sure.
** Apparently Jaune leaving Nora and Ren to fend for themselves in the wilderness instead of taking them with him, no matter how prepared they were, would backfire on him. Roman learned this the hard way when he was hired years later to search for them --
** When a freak storm delays their flight, Qrow is incredulous that they have to wait two hours, but Taiyang points out that the airport has to chart a new route, add extra fuel, and contact the receiving airport to make sure there's room at the new time.
** Young Jaune attempting to attack a Maiden by screaming at the top of his lungs as he runs across fifty meters of open ground gives the woman an eternity to casually dodge his attack and pin him to the ground. However, said Maiden then ignoring Jaune when he's both conscious and uninjured gives him an opportunity to stab her in the thigh.
** Not long after Young Jaune went off with Raven to , his family realized he was gone and filed a missing persons report along with checking everywhere they can think of to find him.
** The horrible work conditions SDC employees face at many of their mines aren't because of Jacques Schnee but more local managers trying to look good by increasing profits while cutting costs. Running a Fiction500 doesn't allow someone the time to oversee every minute detail of their company.
** While giving Jaune advice on , Summer notes that it's not necessarily a lifelong commitment, citing that a number of people multiple times over the course of their life for one reason or another.
** Something that Jaune never thought about in the original timeline, but realizes in the new one, is the full consequences of Cinder's operations leading up to the Fall of Beacon. Putting aside all the life-and-death matters of violent crime, consorting with terrorists, using Grimm as shock troops, and destroying a Huntsman academy... Roman and the White Fang stealing and hoarding all the Dust they could find seriously messed up the world's economy, long before the stakes became lethal. Thanks to Jaune's changes, Vale and the SDC are much more economically stable by the time of his original year at Beacon.
** Sun's tendency to wear his shirts unbuttoned is partially a habit from when he was homeless and had to wear anything he could find, often having to leave shirts unbuttoned so they'd actually fit. Emerald notes having similar experiences but her slight frame meant she had to worry about clothes being too big rather than too small.
** [[spoiler:Summer Rose refuses to accept that Jaune is a time traveller without proof, something that never mattered to everyone else who learned the truth because they had a reason to believe it - Raven had Jaune's memories implanted in her head by a being that cannot physically lie, and Winter is in love with him and believed him on principle if nothing else. Jaune also can't provide the proof she wants by this point because the timeline has changed so much that his knowledge is now next to useless, and he can't use anything only she would know because she died before he could meet her in the original timeline. As a result, all Jaune can do is hope that Oscar becomes Ozpin's next host like the original timeline because he has no other information he can possibly reveal.]]
** After accepting a deal with to close three SDC mines in exchange for some information, Jaune talks to Winter to convince her to do it. To his misfortune, she has no way to do it - while she understands why he wants it, she can't give the SDC board a plausible reason to lose so much profit, and the only way she could legally do it (close the three in order to consolidate their forces into one larger dig site) is no longer plausible now that large dig sites have long since run dry. Even when Jaune decides to illegally close the sites, Winter can't help him because if she goes missing for even half an hour she'd have four middle managers and the entire board on her back wondering what happened (all of this without even mentioning that she'd be instantly recognized as soon as she tried anything).
** While Raven & Qrows' bird forms are a convenient way for them to travel, they were also incredibly difficult to get used to, as the differences of a human & bird mind made it very difficult for them to get a hang on them at first. Not to mention the numerous other drawbacks, like landing being difficult, having to fight off predators, take care of their feathers and not give into the birds' hormones.
** may have godlike powers, but due to having the mentality of child and never experiencing real combat with anyone, she is unprepared for Jaune's attacks, allowing him to have the upper hand during most of their fight. Had it not have been for Qrow's interference, he would've killed her easily.

Adult Fear is now a disambig

* AdultFear:
** Her time as a StreetUrchin made Emerald painfully aware of the very worst people can do to others. Suffice to say it takes her months of continued cohabitation to stop expecting Jaune to sexually assault her. She was around eight years old at the time.
*** It gets worse when Summer finds out that Emerald has no context for any sexual activity that isn't linked to rape or prostitution, or other equally unsavory things.
** Qrow and Jaune have this concerning Ozpin and his plans. It's becoming more and more clear that he wants Ruby and Yang in Beacon so that they can become the core of the next iteration of team STRQ, despite that Ruby doesn't want to become a Huntress anymore out of trauma and that Team STRQ have experienced no end of hardship working for Ozpin (ranging from seeing the effects of the tournament on Ruby to Summer nearly getting killed to Raven just straight-up abandoning all of them with Ozpin as the largest contributing factor).
** Young Jaune disappears from his home one night with no one in town having seen him leave.

** Jaune develops a tendency to ruffle Emerald's hair. Considering her initial fears of being beaten or sexually abused by this strange man, allowing these small gestures of affection is a pretty big show of trust in him.
